For years contact lenses were designed with only function in mind. Anyone with vision problems who didn’t want to wear glasses could consult their eye care professional and make the change. Contact lenses were an unnoticeable and convenient way to correct vision.
Now even people with 20/20 vision are lining up for contact lenses. Why?
The latest, greatest fashion trend: colored contact lenses.
What Are Colored Contact Lenses? Colored contact lenses have a tint, color or design embedded right on the contact lens itself. The center portion that fits over your pupil remains clear to allow your vision to be unimpeded. The tints can enhance your natural eye color, completely change your eye color or for a really wild look, imprint crazy designs or logos right on the iris.
For example: you could have blue eyes one day, brown eyes the next and cat eyes on the weekend. They are versatile, flexible and fun!
When buying colored contact lenses there are two main categories of contact lenses to choose from: Enhancer Contact Lenses and Opaque Contact Lenses.
What Is The Difference Between Enhancer and Opaque Colored Contact Lenses? Enhancer colored contact lenses use translucent tints that allow certain wavelengths of light to pass through while absorbing others. This results in a vivid enhancement of your natural eye color. It can also change the way the iris looks underneath making your eyes clearly stand out.
Enhancer colored contact lenses cannot change your eye color; only enhance what you already have. They work particularly well for people with green, blue or light colored eyes, creating dramatic and intense looks.
Opaque colored contact lenses use opaque tints that completely mask your underlying iris. No light can pass through the opaque tint, which means your natural eye color is no longer visible. Regular opaque lenses are carefully designed to mimic the natural look of the eye while completely altering eye color. You can go from brown-eyes to green, blue-eyes to purple, there is no limit to the color changes available.
Natural looking opaque contact lenses are also used for cosmetic purposes to cover up any eye disfigurements a person has that would usually be visible. For a more fun appearance you can use costume or theatrical lenses. These opaque colored contact lenses are used all the time to create special effects in the movies and for Halloween. Special effects lenses can turn you from human to vampire, give you alien eyes, or allow you to have your favorite logo visible in your eye. They can also be ordered with customized iris flecks for a unique appearance.
There is also a new development in colored contact lenses designed especially for the sports enthusiast. They have what are called light-filtering tints. These tints enhance the visibility of certain colors for the wearer and enable them to more easily see objects such as tennis balls. The tints effectively separate the object from the background giving you an advantage during play. There are a number of light-filtering contact lenses being designed for a variety of sports.
Who Can Wear Colored Contact Lenses? Many colored contact lenses can be ordered in ‘plano’ form for people who do not need vision correction. There are also designs for people who require bifocal correction and for those with astigmatism.
For anyone wishing to use colored contact lenses you do require an appointment with an eye care professional and a prescription, even if you have 20/20 vision. Contact lenses need to be fitted properly to the curvature of your eye for a safe and comfortable fit.

There’s nothing like a great soundtrack for your road trip to really make the miles fly by. Rather than just bringing a collection of your favorite CDs, why not look into making your own mixed disc with all the favorite songs of everyone who will be going along on the trip.
With the right tunes, you can really enjoy even the longest of road trips. Just think back to all the movies you’ve seen where they play upbeat music as the characters speed across the countryside. We all want to be like that, so, while you can’t montage your trip into a two minute scene, you can certainly spice it up with some good music.
Choosing Summer Road Trip Songs
Your songs don’t have to actually involve road trips, but it sure lends a fun air if they talk about traveling and cars, which is why most of the tunes on the majority of song lists are all about being on the move. This just seems appropriate for a car full of people whizzing down the highway and they are also usually songs that you already know and can sing along to.
Look for songs that are upbeat and will keep you bobbing your head and tapping the steering wheel . . . the last thing you want is to fall asleep to some slow ballad that doesn’t inspire anyone in the car to sing. Songs that are easy to sing along to are an excellent way to draw fellow passengers out of their stupor and get them bouncing around and air-strumming to the music.
When you do find those songs for a road trip, it’s a good idea to put a lot onto your disk or MP3 player. This is because a long trip will quickly exhaust your options. You don’t want to be listening to the same ten songs over and over again every hour! So consider putting at least 50-100 songs together for your road trip compilation. This will give you a good 4-8 hours of music and you won’t have to get bored of any particular song, unless, of course, you want to and hit repeat over and over.
If you are having troubles finding enough songs for the compilation, recruit your passengers. Get them to each chip in 10 or 20 songs that they enjoy and you can all be introduced to some new tunes while also enjoying your own favorites. Mix the song order up a bit so you won’t have each person’s favorites all in a row . . . this way it will be more interesting for everyone and if there is something you don’t really like, it’s only one song long.
While you will most certainly have your own favorite music, there are a few timeless pieces that simply must be included on every summer road trip song list. Here they are:
Top Road Trip Songs
- Hotel California, The Eagles - Ramblin’ Man, The Allman Brothers - Highway Star, Deep Purple - California Dreaming, Beach Boys - Life is a Highway, Tom Cochrane - Truckin’, Grateful Dead - Light My Fire, The Doors - Roadhouse Blues, The Doors - American Woman, Guess Who - One Headlight, The Wallflowers
This list could go on for days, as you can well imagine, but these are some of the best songs out there for listening on the road. They are great to sing along to, they boost morale and get everyone bopping in the car, all ingredients for a great summer road trip song list.

When it comes to giving gifts, many people opt for flowers, but a plant can be just as good a gift. Both flowers and plants make excellent gifts for just about any occasion and are almost always welcome.
Choosing Plants as Gifts
A plant is a great present for someone in a stable situation who has space for it. Of course, plants don’t have to take up a lot of room and you can even choose one that can be replanted into an outside garden if the recipient is more likely to enjoy an outdoor addition. Plants as gifts should be something special. That doesn`t mean you have to pick a flashy plant, or one that is flowering, though this can be very nice. Look for a plant that will mean something to the recipient.
If you know your friend loves ficus, for example, because they remind her of her mother, then go ahead and get her a ficus. It will mean far more than an African violet or another prettier plant.
A few advantages to selecting a plant as a gift:
- They can be replanted. - They last longer than cut flowers. - A plant can be placed anywhere in a home. - They add oxygen to the air.
Be sure to opt for a plant that requires the level of care that can be afforded by the recipient. An exotic orchid might not be the best choice for someone who has a black thumb and is seldom home, but a fern or even a cactus could be a far better gift in this case.
Choosing Flowers as a Gift
Flowers are a more traditional gift than plants, but that doesn’t make them any better. For some people, those who simply have no desire to own plants or who can’t keep even a cactus alive, flowers are a great choice. Of course, they also make a good gift for any special occasion like the arrival of a new baby, an anniversary, or even a job promotion. Don’t forget to send birthday flowers as well.
With such a wide range of flowers available to choose from, you`re bound to find something ideal for the person you have in mind. It really helps if you can find out what their favorite flowers are, but you really can`t go wrong with a bright, beautiful bouquet, whether it`s made up of Gerber daisies or roses.
It`s a good idea to tailor the flowers to the relationship, as well. A dozen red roses for a co-worker aren’t very appropriate, but a bouquet of mixed flowers is. If you want to give roses to a friend, stick to non-romantic colors like yellow, coral or gold and shy away from red and pink which can be mistaken as a completely different gesture.
Flowers also lend themselves to small gift inclusions, like a teddy bear for a new baby, a bunch of chocolates for a lover or a figurine for that special someone in your life. These extras can add a lot more meaning to your gift and will be appreciated long after the cut flowers wilt and die. Whether you opt for flowers or plants as a gift, you`ll be making the right decision. They are both excellent gifts that are enjoyed greatly by the recipients. Which one you choose depends mostly on personal taste and what the recipient will enjoy most. Flowers and plants make for a more unique gift than many of the standard options and can be a fun way to mix it up a bit, especially if you add in a little extra gift tucked into the foliage.

When you begin to shop online, you`ll notice there are a lot of special offers. Among the best of these are free shipping offers and it really does pay to take advantage of this handy offer type that can save you a lot of money.
While you can save a lot of money in gas by shopping online, the shipping fees do tend to take a chunk out of that. By finding free shipping offers from online stores, you can shop online and still save a lot of money. Basically, the company is paying for the high gas prices required to get the product to you and it`s always better to be the one on the receiving end of that deal!
What to Look for In Free Shipping
It`s not a good idea to just jump on any old free shipping offer. While this is a great way to save cash when you shop online, there are a few things to keep in mind. It always pays to read the conditions and make sure that you meet the requirements, or you could end up unpleasantly surprised. Here are a few things to watch out for:
- International shipping. Since it is considerably more costly to ship outside the country, make sure you check this. Even if you are American, it`s easy to find international websites, so make sure you aren`t on the international list.
- Price limit. There are some programs require you shop online up to a certain limit in order to get free shipping. If you buy too little, you could end up paying the shipping anyway, so watch for things like “Free shipping with $100 purchase”.
- Other conditions. Just be aware that there could be other conditions on the whole free shipping offer and be sure to read the small print. It`s a good idea to be know for sure that you are eligible.
As long as you know what the terms are, free shipping is a great deal. All you need to really watch out for is the temptation to spend more just to hit that free shipping amount. This is worth it if you only need a few more dollars, but don`t spend $75 just to skip the gas tariff. Instead, try looking at another site that might not have the same spending limit.
Many companies realize the value of encouraging people to shop online, so they are doing their best to make great offers. While some companies are just offering small discounts, others go all the way and offer free shipping, as well as some pretty nice discounts with online coupon codes. Being able to combine these means you not only have the advantage of being able to order everything from home for a lower price than you would find in the shops, you will also save on gas to get there and back. With free shipping, the manufacturer or online store pays for the transportation fees and you end up the winner in this situation.
So, if you are really interested in beating gas prices, shop online. And if you really want to save money, look for free shipping offers that will let you have the items you normally would have purchased, for far less. This includes everything from gifts and household items to food and beauty products . . . all purchased within the comfort of your own home. It`s a great way to shop and the free shipping just makes it even better.

Having your piano tuned is definitely the single most important part of the instrument’s maintenance, but unfortunately, very few piano owners follow a reasonable schedule when it comes to having their pianos tuned. Piano owners often think that they can go years between tunings and everything will be fine, or that they can try to replace a professional tuning by subscribing to some myth or old wives tale (like keeping jars of water in their piano), but this simply isn?t the case. To truly get the most out of your piano, it needs to be taken care of by a professional, and with regularity.
When does my piano need tuning?
It’s an often heard question among tuning technicians and piano manufacturers, most of whom suggest a minimum of two times a year. Depending on what type of climate you live in, however, once about every three months (or whenever the seasons change) would be an optimal schedule for tuning.
What do the seasons have to do with piano tuning?
With every seasonal change there are also usually drastic changes in both temperatures and levels of humidity. Your piano has been meticulously crafted out of wood, and wood is a material that is particularly susceptible to changes in humidity and moisture.
The changes in the level of moisture cause the wooden sound board to expand and shrink causing a big change in the tension of the strings, and causing the piano to go out of tune.
If it’s impossible for you to afford the once every three month tunings, there are a few things that you can do on your own to help keep your piano in the best shape possible between a less frequent maintenance schedule.
Preventative maintenance
Try to keep the temperature of your home at a relatively consistent level; despite what the temperature outside happens to be. Somewhere in the neighborhood of seventy degrees would be ideal.
Keep your piano away from direct sources of heat and cold. Avoid getting too close to radiators or central air and central heat registers.
Try to keep your piano away from direct sunlight. You may be surprised to find that, even if your home’s thermostat is set to seventy and its cooler outside, direct sunlight can make the piano very hot and cause an internal increase in humidity, wreaking havoc with the tuning.
There are also internal humidity control mechanisms that can be installed inside of your piano to monitor and regulate levels of humidity to make sure that all of the internal wooden components stay at the optimal level of humidity and keep your piano in as good a shape as possible. Though this can be a bit of an initial investment, it will prevent you from needing to have your piano tuned every three or so months, so it would likely save you some money in the long run.
Your piano can also become out of tune from an over abundance of play, this however is a best case scenario. The more often you sit down to play your piano, the more enjoyment it is probably bringing to you and those around you, so if you are playing so much that you need frequent tunings, the investment in your piano was a very wise one. If you are one of the few with this problem, you should consider yourself lucky.
If you follow along with the preventative maintenance suggestions, then the suggested twice annual tunings will probably be enough to keep your beloved piano in shape. If you can afford the internal humidity control, that’s even better for your piano?s health. The bottom line is - have your piano professionally tuned and maintained as often as you can to keep it?s environment as ideal as possible - if you can do that, your piano will give you years and years , if not a lifetime of beautiful music.

Figuring out the best possible brand of piano to purchase for a player that is just beginning can be a pretty difficult task depending on the particular situation. No one can come right out and tell you what piano to buy, it’s a decision that you must work your way to with a good bit of research.
There are a number of questions that you should ask yourself before jumping into a purchase that may be as major as buying a piano.
Has the beginner ever played before?
If the beginner that you are considering buying a piano for has never so much as played the instrument before and there is no one else residing in the house that will play, some serious thought should be put into the decision. In fact, if this is a situation that you are currently facing, it might be advisable, if possible, for the beginner to take a few lessons at a studio, rent a piano or purchase a less expensive, electronic keyboard to begin with to be sure that the beginner will hold some interest in the endeavor after the initial novelty begins to wear off.
The last thing you want to do is go out and spend more that twenty thousand dollars on a very large instrument that will take up quite a bit of space in your home only to find that there is no real deep interest there. A keyboard is a good, inexpensive and portable learning tool that will help you gage if there is a real interest there, and it will still be of use later down the road after a full size piano is procured.
What fits my situation?
If you are sure that purchasing a piano is the right decision, then you’ve got some serious studying to do.
In all reality, the best brand of piano for your beginner is going to be the one that fits your particular situation, in terms of price, size and sound quality.
There are plenty of excellent manufacturers of pianos available in every imaginable style and price range: Steinway, Wurlitzer, Kawai and Yamaha each have different musical quality and each manufacturer comes with a potentially very different price tag (Steinway produces pianos that are well in excess of six figures, where as Yamaha produces a quality instrument for under twenty thousand dollars.) Each brand will have a style, sound and price that will appeal to different types of players.
Pianos come in two different “body types”, uprights and grand pianos. Grand pianos normally produce a better sound quality, but uprights are often far less expensive and easier to fit into your home.
You’ll want to visit plenty of show rooms, do a lot of testing out different brands and talking to a good deal of sales people, teachers and technicians in order to narrow down the possibilities and begin to select the piano that may be right for you. You want a brand that has good merit, a solid reputation and that offers a good warranty.
Once you’ve got a manufacturer in mind that you feel comfortable with, it’s time to pick the most appropriate model for your situation - if at all possible, try not to buy the manufacturer’s least expensive model. It’s no secret that the cheapest model in terms of cost is probably the manufacturer’s model that is also of the lowest quality, a few hundred to one thousand dollars price difference could mean a world in the difference of quality of the instrument.
Don’t despair that you can’t afford the world’s greatest piano right from the beginning, many reputable manufacturers have a “trade up” option that will allow you to upgrade to a better model when you feel that you may have outgrown your current piano.
When it comes to buying a piano, as with making any other major purchase you want to be armed with information -ask a lot of questions and buy what you can afford. Pick a manufacturer that has a trade up option so you’ll always be able to have the best possible piano for your situation.

Are you fascinated by the rise and fall of stocks around the world? Do your bedtime stories consist of books on tax laws? Do you love to travel and want to make more money? Are you ready for a career change? If so, you might make a great offshore investment broker.
What Does an Offshore Investment Broker Do? Offshore investments are classified as such on a stock exchange, which means that investors are not taxed on dividends paid by the fund. In addition, the corporate profits of these funds are usually subject only to very low local taxes. Several types of accounts are available, including investment club accounts, individual and joint accounts, estate and trust accounts, and corporate or partnership accounts.
An offshore investment broker helps investors select and manage offshore accounts. They generally work overseas and meet with clients one-on-one via the Internet or phone. Offshore investment brokers generally work through a larger offshore investment company, rather than independently providing financial services to customers. Many offshore investment brokers need to be available at odd hours to assist customers in different time zones.
What are the Advantages of Working in Offshore Investments? Although offshore investment brokers must work very hard to earn a living, the living they do earn is considerable. Because of the tax savings on offshore investments, offshore investment brokers can frequently charge a higher commission than their traditional counterparts. This translates to a higher personal income for the broker, often in the range of $300,000 per year.
Offshore investment brokers also work in exciting locations. If you love to travel and enjoy the idea of living in a foreign country, this might be a great career for you. Brokers working for offshore investment companies get to see the world.
What Do Offshore Investment Firms Look for in a Broker? Because clients are located all over the world, offshore investment brokers may need to speak two or more languages. This allows them to communicate with clients in one location while handling investments in another. In addition, offshore investment brokers should be able to move to other world locations as needed by the brokerage.
Offshore investment firms are interested in brokers who are great with people. Because of the intensive one-on-one nature of offshore investment, people skills rank high on the list of desired qualities in a candidate. Ideal brokers are also self-motivated, positive, and work well in a team. High value is placed on ethics and courtesy as well.
Offshore investment brokers sometimes need to work long hours, so brokerages are interested in candidates who are hard working and driven by rewards and results. A clean criminal background check is also a major requirement for this type of work.
How Do I Become a Broker? Becoming an offshore investment broker is a multi-step process. It’s important to make sure you have the proper training and qualities before applying for positions and preparing to pack up your life and move to another country.
Most offshore investment firms provide training in the specifics of being an offshore investment broker, but they expect candidates to have qualifications related to investment brokerage in general. Specifically, they expect to see people who work at a senior management level, have a great track record when it comes to sales, and have a history of completing high-value transactions.
Here are some specific steps you can take to become an offshore investment broker: - Establish yourself as a broker in a domestic firm. Try to attain a senior level position and perform well at this position for a couple of years. - Learn at least one other language. The language you choose to learn depends on the location of the brokerage where you would like to work, as well as the language spoken by many of its clients. - Be sure to document your sales successes, especially those involving high-value transactions. - If possible, establish a relationship with other offshore investment brokers. As with any career, networking is very important.

Offshore investment accounts simply refer to investment strategies that capitalize on investment opportunities that are located outside the United States or other country of residence of the investment client. These investment accounts are known for having low tax liabilities, thus making them also sometimes thought of as investment tax havens. Investing in offshore accounts also tends to provide financial and legal benefits. Some of these benefits may include:
- Less controlling legal regulation - Little to no taxation - Greater discretion - Easy access to investment funds (including earned interest and/or dividends) - Protection against local financial or political instability
Can Anyone Invest in Offshore Accounts?
There are a large number of bond, money market and equity assets available to investors that are offered by offshore companies. Many of these financial instruments are supposedly economically healthy, time-tested and, most importantly, officially permitted. So, you may be asking yourself “can anyone invest in offshore accounts?” While there are many misconceptions about offshore investment accounts and the level of wealth that is required to invest in them, you would be surprised at how open and available they are to the average investor. In fact, one of the greatest advantages of offshore investment is that anyone irrespective of wealth can open an account. There may be certain regulations regarding the amount of money required to open an offshore investment account but to the surprise of many it is not an extremely large sum. Along with the very wealthy, a small business owner or an average middle class person can purchase offshore investments. This is one way that Americans are doing business, earning money and also saving tax dollars on investment earnings.
Popular Offshore Investment Destinations
The tax savings one can expect when investing this way are a direct result of the fact that tax systems in offshore destinations are open and investor friendly. On the other hand, instead of stimulating the local economy, offshore accounts indirectly develop the economy of the offshore destination where the funds are invested. This is an important consideration as the money that comes in speeds up economic activities in an area that the investor typically has little to do with. Luckily, most popular offshore investment destinations are neutral and friendly and can definitely benefit from investment dollars of foreign investors. The most infamous and popular offshore investment banking centers in the global market are the Cayman Islands and Switzerland. Some of the other well-known locations that foreign investors? dollars flock to include:
- Bahamas - Barbados - Belize - Bermuda - British Virgin Islands - Cyprus - Dominica - Gibraltar - Ghana - Hong Kong - Labuan, Malaysia - Liechtenstein - Luxembourg - Malta - Macau - Mauritius - Monaco - Montserrat - Nauru - Panama - Seychelles - Turks and Caicos Islands
Tightening Regulations
Even for those hoping to find easy tax havens and advantageous investment vehicles in offshore accounts will find that the old rules are beginning to change. The regulation of offshore banking is improving and tightening up in many ways. The regulation of these elusive and loosely regulated banking institutions is increasingly monitored by supranational nongovernmental organizations such as the International Monetary Fund. Offshore investment accounts are starting to be required to report at least quarterly on several different facets of their respective businesses. The increased attention on anti-money laundering initiatives in many different countries means that bank employees at all levels are encouraged to report suspicion of any type of money laundering activity to the local authorities despite customary bank secrecy. Additionally, there is increased cooperation between police authorities across international borders.

It is important to many individuals to have a gentle dentist, especially when a sensitive mouth is involved. Then there is that strange fear of the dentist because the mouth is a sensitive place. The mouth is so sensitive that sometimes activities such as flossing can make the gums bleed or inflict pain. We are more comfortable with having control over our toothbrushes rather than having someone else place strange objects into our mouths. However, the key to good oral hygiene is seeing a dentist twice per year.
But is it possible to have a gentle dentist? Of course it is. It is important for you to set aside past experiences and be proactive in finding a dentist who is going to have your best interest at heart. That isn’t saying that past dentists haven’t had your best interest at heart. That’s just saying that some dentists are gentler than others and you are one of those seeking out the more gentle ones.
What to do
The first thing you want to do is ask around. You have friends who go to the dentist regularly and you want to see what they have to say about their own dentists. Chances are they have been to a dentist in the past that was not so gentle, so they’re going to tell you about it. If they like their current dentist, then they’re going to tell you about that too. So be sure to listen to what others have to say about dentists they have visited. If you have to, make notes about which ones to stay away from and which ones are considered gentle. You can then compare what everyone has to say and make a decision after that.
After you have made a decision regarding which dentist to see, schedule an appointment for a simple cleaning. You can tell if a dentist is a gentle dentist just by how the cleaning is done. If they seem in a hurry and you’re feeling pain, then you know that the dentist is not gentle and that you never want to embark on that particular journey again. You then you know that you need to try another dentist in six months. You can keep doing this until you find one to be your regular dentists. If you find that you have cavities that need filled or need other dental procedures, it may be a good idea to seek out another dentist if the one you tried was not so gentle. This may cost you a little more money, but you need to make an appointment with another dentist and consult with them. They will look at your teeth to see what is going on. This is also a way in which you can tell how gentle they are. You can also ask questions such as:
- Do you do the procedure yourself or does someone do it for you? - Do you apply a numbing gel to the area in which Novocain shots will be administered?
If someone other than the dentist is doing the procedure, then that is a red flag because you don’t know that person. The second question is also important because a gentle dentist will ensure that you will feel as little as possible.
It pays off
Embarking on a search for a gentle dentist is going to pay off because you’re going to be able to have dental work done with minimal pain. No one wants to have a procedure done and then feel it for two weeks. A gentle dentist is going to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible, which is what a dentist should do.

Have you ever thought you received counterfeit money? Perhaps you have received it before and you weren’t sure who to contact. If that has ever happened to you or you are afraid of it happening to you, you can now rest assured that you’ll know what to do if it does. Counterfeiting money is such a problem that currency seems to be constantly changing to deter counterfeiters. However, it seems that counterfeiters find out a way to duplicate currency soon after new ‘counterfeit proof’ methods are developed. Just because a new look comes out doesn’t mean it is impossible to receive a counterfeit bill.
On the retail side
If you work in a retail establishment and a customer hands you a counterfeit bill, don’t return it to them. You want to contact a supervisor as soon as possible so that the supervisor can assess the situation and verify that the money is counterfeit. Retail establishments usually have special counterfeit money detector pens that are used to mark money to ensure that it is real. The counterfeit money detector pen leaves either a clear to light brown mark on the currency if it is real. If it is fake then the mark may show up as extremely dark brown or black.
After the supervisor determines that the money is fake, the supervisor will then take the money away and will contact the police. The police will arrive and do what they are trained to do to confirm that the money isn’t real. They will then take care of matters from there by filling out a report and taking the fake money as evidence.
On the consumer side
Consumers have also been known to receive counterfeit money from banks and retail establishments. You may even receive a counterfeit bill at a yard sale. Anywhere money changes hands holds the potential for counterfeit money. If you find that you have received a counterfeit bill, don’t give it back to the person that gave it to you. Call the police immediately. If you give it back, then you are running the risk of the money ending up back into the currency pool. This could eventually get someone into trouble, but calling the police immediately will keep anyone from getting into any type of trouble. They will assess it, determine it to be fake, and they will then take it with them to bag as evidence.
Identification
Money has very distinguished markings. In the case of the U.S. dollar, there is a small plastic strip that is inserted into the bill. It is on your left side when looking at it. You can also look for watermarks or even invest in one of those detection pens so that you can check your money to ensure none of it is fake. You can also look at it to see some of the tiny little fibers in the paper. They are usually red and blue. The paper also has a certain texture to it.
If you notice that the texture seems off, fibers are missing, the watermarks are not watermarks at all, or the plastic strip is missing, call the police. Even if the plastic strip is missing, check all of the other features. Sometimes children get a hold of money and remove the strips, but this can usually be determined by seeing a slight tear where the strip would normally be. By looking at these things, you are able to determine whether or not you have actual counterfeit money in your hand and, if you do, you now know what you have to do to get the problem taken care of.

What is Nofollow?
Nofollow is an html attribute first introduced in 2005 by Google. Originally, the rel=”nofollow” attribute was added to discourage comment spam in blogs. Links with nofollow should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine.
From the Google Blog:
From now on, when Google sees the attribute (rel=”nofollow”) on hyperlinks, those links won’t get any credit when we rank websites in our search results. This isn’t a negative vote for the site where the comment was posted; it’s just a way to make sure that spammers get no benefit from abusing public areas like blog comments, trackbacks, and referrer lists.
From Google Answers:
“Nofollow” provides a way for webmasters to tell search engines “Don’t follow links on this page” or “Don’t follow this specific link.”
So the rel=”nofollow” attribute is a tool that can help define your most important links to the search engines.
Search Engines that support nofollow: Google, MSN Search and Yahoo!
History of Nofollow
Originally, the nofollow attribute was used on the page-level with a meta tag. It instructed search engines not to follow (crawl) outgoing links on a page. Example: see code example on main site
Another way to tell search engines not to follow (crawl) pages was to include them in a robots.txt file. But it was more difficult to prevent robots from following individual links on a link by link basis. The rel=”nofollow” attribute allows webmasters to easily instruct the search engine robot to not crawl a link.
How to Spot Nofollow Links?
You can install browser plugins, or edits to Chrome to show a highlighted color over nofollow links. You can also install a plugin to your blogging software.
Nofollow Implications
Links are now either dofollow or nofollow. From the perspective of building links to your site or blog, dofollow links will always give you more link juice. While nofollow links won’t either harm or help your link building. With that said, how you decide to build links with respect to the nofollow attribute (whether you want to get ONLY dofollow links or both to create a more natural array of links) will be an individual choice. How to use nofollow in link building strategy is a discussion for my next post!
Nofollow FAQs
How Do I Remove Nofollow?
1. Browser Plugins - highlights all links which are nofollow
- Chrome extension - add text to ChromEdit and follow directions - FireFox has a version of the ChromEdit called ChromeEdit Plus - Firefox plugin - SEO for Firefox
2. Blog Plugins
Wordpress Nofollow Plugins:
- Lucia’s Linky Love - Rewards frequent commenters, you can set how many comments must have been made to be awarded a dofollow link. - Nofollow Reciprocity - Detects nofollow links, if you link to a site and it is nofollow, your link to them also becomes nofollow. - NoFollow Free - removes the nofollow attribute from blog comments and inserts an image band at the top of your pages with the phrase: “NoFollow Free” (optional). - Dofollow - Simply install and activate, all nofollows are removed from comments and trackbacks. - Dofollow (WP Plugin) - allows nofollows to be removed from comments, pingbacks and trackbacks but you can also set a comment age limit as well as have nofollow removed left by user type.
Andy Beard has a list of more nofollow plugins; including those for Blogger, TypePad and Moveable Type.
How Do I Add Nofollow?
For more control of your inbound and outbound links, you can add tag rel=”nofollow” within any html tag. Example: see code example on main site
Does a link with nofollow count as a backlink?
Opinions vary on whether the nofollow attribute is completely discounted, or just given less relevance to the search engines. Keep in mind that how the search engines view nofollow may also vary. However, according to Google, that answer is no.
Why would I want to use nofollow on a link?
You might want to use nofollow on a link you don’t endorse, but has information you want to point to. On blog sites, you may want to give a nofollow link to spam comments and give credit to comments that are well thought out or contribute to your post.

As globalization takes hold of our collective society, the English language is quickly becoming the universal language for many reasons. For one, business across borders as well as over the internet, whether it is conducted by small companies or multi-national corporations is largely conducted in English. Global politics and diplomacy are largely conducted in English as well. In fact, English is the world’s second largest native language, the official language in 70 countries, and English-speaking nations are responsible for about 40 percent of the world’s total Gross National Product. Part of this can be attributed to the USA’s status as a major world power in economic, political and military aspects and by the huge influence of American movies.
The Internet
The internet was developed chiefly in America, and whether that is an influential factor or not, the majority of Web sites and Web pages are in English. People from all over the world access these English-language sites on a daily basis. This indicates that there are a many people all over the world who can at least read minimal amounts of English - enough to browse the Web.
Popular Culture
English can be at least understood on at least some level almost everywhere in the world among scholars and educated people. The English language is also widely recognized as the world’s media language, and the chief language of cinema, TV, pop music and as aforementioned, the computer world. All over the planet, even people who don’t necessarily speak the language know many English words, their pronunciation and meaning.
Countries Where English is Taught in School
Because of the English language’s far-reaching popularity and use all over the world, many non-English speaking countries are now introducing English lessons in their public and/or private school systems. Some of the countries that include the English language in their school curriculum do so for one or more of the reasons mentioned above. Other countries are simply forward-thinking in that they can see a degree of universality to the language that will offer its students greater opportunity. Other countries have their own, unrelated reasons for teaching English in their schools. No matter what the motivation, below is a list of countries that currently offer English as a second language in their schools:
- Asia - People’s Republic of China - Japan - South Korea - Taiwan - Singapore (English is taught as a first language here) - India - Nepal - Middle East and North Africa - United Arab Emirates - Kuwait - Oman - Egypt (English is mandatory from the 4th grade on) - European Union - Austria - Belgium - Bulgaria - Cyprus - Czech republic - Denmark - Estonia - Finland - France - Germany - Greece - Hungary - Ireland - Italy - Latvia - Lithuania - Luxembourg - Malta - The Netherlands - Poland - Portugal - Romania - Slovakia - Slovenia - Spain - Sweden - United Kingdom - Latin America - Argentina - Chile - Columbia - Costa Rica - Guatemala - Honduras - Mexico - Panama - Venzuela
Conclusion
As you can see, English is increasingly being taught to elementary, middle school and high school students all over the world. In many of the schools in the countries listed above English is either mandatory, or offered as a foreign language study much like Spanish and French are taught in the U.S. In other countries, learning English is offered as an option to those elite members of society who are in the position to pay for private school or tutoring.

All you have to do is pay attention to literature, the media, movies, pop culture and the internet to notice that the English language is quickly becoming something of a universal language. Business transactions across borders and over the internet are largely conducted in English. International relations and policy are also commonly carried out in the English language. For these reasons and many others, it is highly beneficial to have at least a somewhat operating knowledge of English. In fact, English is widely taught as a second language in countries all over the world, including but not limited to:
- Asia - Middle East - Europe - Latin America
Is it Too Late?
Students all over the world may be studying English as a second language - whether it is a requirement or not, but what about adults? It is common knowledge that it is much easier to learn a language when one is very young and still developing early language skills. In fact, the very best time to pick up any language is actually before five years of age. Does this mean that it is virtually impossible for anyone over the age of 5 (or 10 for that matter) to learn a new language such as English? The answer is very simple - no. Learning English may be more difficult and unnatural for an adult to learn, but it is definitely not too late. It may require more work, studying and practicing for an adult to truly learn English, but it is by no means impossible.
Factors in Learning
There are many different factors that will influence the level of ease or difficulty each individual will experience when learning English as an adult. Some of these include age, disposition, behavioral attitudes, native language, frequency of practice, etc. Generally speaking, the greater the amount of time that is spent on studying English lessons and practicing English, the quicker and more thoroughly the language will be learned. This is true of any foreign language that is studied - not only by adults, but also by youth and children.
Adults Learning English in the U.S.
There are a great number of immigrants, visitors and students in the United States who wish to learn to speak, read and write English. Below are some things that are known about the adult English language student population.
- Native Tongue
The majority of individuals who speak a language other than English at home speak Spanish (60%). The second most prevalent language is Chinese. The remaining eight of the top 10 languages spoken are (in descending order) French, German, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Italian, Korean, and Polish (U.S. Census Bureau, 2003).
- Level of Education
Adult English learners have a wide variety of educational backgrounds, ranging from no education at all to advanced degrees.
- Ability to Speak English
The English speaking ability of adults learning English will typically range from low beginning, with means the individual has limited opportunities to use English outside of class, to high advanced (near native proficiency). Most English language learners enrolled in adult education programs for English are in beginning literacy or beginning ESL classes.
Conclusion
With so many adult students of the English language (in the United States and all over the world) it is easy to see that learning English as an adult is definitely possible. It is very encouraging to see that no matter what age or station in life one is in, it is never too late to learn even a complicated language such as English.

If you are missing a few teeth and you’re embarrassed about it, don’t fret. There is hope for you. That hope comes in the form of dental implants. Because of the development of cosmetic dentistry, people do not have to live their entire lives with large gaps between their teeth. Everyone has the opportunity to have the smile they always wanted. This also offers up a great explanation as to why some people have beautiful teeth that look absolutely flawless. They have a mouth full of secrets that no one knows because the implants look so much like real teeth.
Another important aspect is the fact that the implants act like real teeth. You are not plagued with a handicap when you receive dental implants. Implant dentistry has definitely taken that into consideration. Teeth are important because of their multiple functions, so rest assured that you’re not going to be restricted if you decide dental implants are what you need.
The perfect candidate
Many individuals can qualify for dental implants, but there are a few things that need to be kept in mind when it comes to using implant dentistry as your route to the perfect smile. The first of those things is how many teeth you need replaced. The more you need replaced, the more money it is going to cost you. You might have to evaluate which ones are most important to you if you cannot afford to have them all replaced.
However, it may not be possible to replace them all anyway. That is because the only way you can have dental implants is if you have enough bone remaining in the area of the missing teeth for the implants to be inserted. If there is not enough bone, then you’re not going to be able to have implants in those areas. This information in combination with how much money you’re going to be able to pay will determine how perfect your smile will be. However, there are many ways nowadays in which an individual can pay for their cosmetic dentistry procedures, so that should not be the top priority on your list. Your top priority should be in finding out which areas of your mouth can receive dental implants.
But look at it this way: Any teeth that you’re able to have replaced will serve as a great improvement to your smile. Implant dentistry has not only made it possible to have a better smile, but eating becomes an easier task. This is good because one would be amazed at how important of a role teeth plays in an individual’s overall nutrition. You want to be able to look at a certain dish and say, “I can’t wait to have that.” You don’t want to have to look at it and say, “I can’t eat that because I don’t have enough teeth to chew it.” As raw as that may sound, there are many individuals faced with this challenge every single day. Fortunately, dental implants have solved that problem for countless others.
Taking action
So if you’re one of those individuals who are tired of not having the perfect smile and not being able to enjoy other aspects of your life, implant dentistry has the answers. Dental implants have improved the quality of life for many individuals throughout the years. Appearance is improved and so is self-esteem. And to think that no one has to know that what you’re sporting is dental implants is quite amazing. The only way anyone will know is if you tell. The secrecy in itself is quite exciting.

Auto insurance is a topic that deserves a lot of attention specifically because of the fact that auto insurance rates can vary a great deal. They vary depending not only on who you are, but what you have done as well. There are certain groups of people that have higher rates as a baseline and then there are people that have been in accidents or obtained parking tickets for infractions that will have higher rates because the insurance company believes that their actions make them a higher risk.
Well, if you are in the second group, there are many different ways that you can find cheap auto insurance. However, you really do need to commit yourself to the search because it is a search that could take you awhile. Having multiple accidents or tickets and trying to get auto insurance is a lot like trying to get a loan with bad credit. Because your past has not been good, the present is not a place in which your word carries a lot of weight. There are steps that you can take to secure cheap auto insurance, some of them being covered below.
Check the Major Companies
The first thing that you want to do is check the major auto insurance companies that operate in your area. For the most part, these will be national or even in some cases multi-national corporations. While it is true that these companies will often have the cheapest insurance deals, at the same time it is also important that you do not purchase a plan from an auto insurance representative right away, no matter how sweet that plan might feel. If your driving record is marred, there are always going to be companies that try to take advantage of you and the only way that you can possibly find the cheapest auto insurance is to make sure that you shop around.
The reason that checking the major companies first is important is because those prices will give you an idea of what the market is offering for your specific situation. Those prices will allow you to make comparisons later on when you find other deals and therefore gauge all of the offers you find against those that are being offered by companies that are supposed to be the top in their field. Checking the major companies is an important first step towards finding cheap auto insurance with a less than stellar record, but it is not the only step and if you give in before trying everything else out, you might be spending more money than you actually have to.
Check the Internet
The internet has spawned booms in many of the different insurance company industries. The internet has allowed for niche marketing, so instead of very generalized multi-national insurance companies, you can instead choose to deal with a very small insurance company that is focused on covering the specific condition or case that you fit into. While you might not find any good deals from these companies, the chance of you finding an excellent deal from one is a very real chance and one that you need to follow through on rigorously.
If you do find a good deal, you need to make sure that you thoroughly research the company to make sure that it is reputable and reliable. If a deal sounds too good to be true, make sure you are extra suspicious of the source. If you combine this type of minute research with the major company quotes that you already have in hand, you should end up with the best package for the lowest price in your particular driving situation.

There are so many health benefits associated with saunas that many people have incorporated them into their daily or weekly routine. There are plenty of saunas to be found within Montreal, so there?s really no reason not to add it to your health routine if you are interested.
Finding Saunas in Montreal
When looking for a sauna in Montreal, you?ll want to ensure that you take into account several factors.
Location: Even if a sauna is great, you probably won’t go as often as you would like if it’s on the other side of town. Find a sauna that is near your work or home so you have a good reason to go there and it won’t seem like a huge chore to drive the whole way.
Price: Not all Montreal saunas are priced the same. The location will have an effect on the price, but so will the quality and the equipment. For example, if you are going to a full spa center that offers many different services, the prices are probably going to be different than a sauna exclusive space.
Staff: How you are treated when you go to the sauna has a huge impact on how you rate the place. When the staff are grumpy and unhelpful, it really isn?t worth continuing in the same place. Knowing what kind of temperament you are looking for in a space will be very helpful and should definitely be considered.
Services: What other services are offered? Sometimes it’s worth driving a few minutes out of your way to multitask. If you can use the sauna and then have your hair done in the salon or get a manicure, you’ll save a lot of extra time and this alone is worth opting for the more feature-laden sauna center.
Options: How many people are in the sauna? Are personal saunas available or will you be sweating it out with a number of strangers? These are important questions to ask and it can really help to see the building before you commit to anything more than a one-time visit. Some people enjoy the social nature of a traditional Finnish sauna, while others prefer to pay a bit more for a private sauna where they can relax in peace and quiet and not have to speak with anyone.
Quality: How nice a sauna is will probably have a pretty big effect on how often you want to go. If the area is seedy and you find the actual sauna to be dirty or smell odd, chances are pretty slim that you?ll be back. Take the time to find a good sauna that is actually worth going to. The best saunas will always be neat and clean, with wooden walls and benches and should be very comfortable. The actual amenities in each sauna will vary, of course.
Recommendations: While you can certainly do your own research and seek out a dozen different saunas in the area, it is far faster to go on a friend?s recommendation. People like you will have similar tastes and interests in saunas and this can be useful in finding one that you will actually like and stay with.
The Finnish originally brought saunas to Canada and to Montreal and they are still a big part of the life here. While the original saunas are mostly gone now, new ones have sprung up with the intention of bringing saunas into the modern world. Now you?ll find not only steam saunas in Montreal, but also infrared saunas that provide even more health benefits. All you have to do is look, no matter what your preference.

Aromatherapy has been used for decades to soothe human beings, but more recently, pet owners are realizing the incredible value of using dog aromatherapy to help dogs live happier, more contented lives.
What is Dog Aromatherapy?
The concept of aromatherapy isn’t a new one. Smells affect us drastically and since dogs have a far keener sense of smell, it stands to reason that aromas would have a powerful effect on them as well. Dog aromatherapy is possibly even more effective than human aromatherapy for this very reason.
The use of essential oils and essential oil blends is the basis of aromatherapy of all types. However, it isn’t necessary to use it as is. Many products exist for applying the essential oil in a more diluted fashion. Using dog shampoo or a specially formulated spray for your dog can work wonders. Often pet owners find that combining a warm bath with a good aromatherapy blend is the best way to treat their dogs. This method of treating your dog has many benefits, but perhaps the biggest one is simply that dog aromatherapy is all natural and uses ingredients that your pet will love and that won’t irritate allergies.
Does It Actually Work?
You may be skeptical about the effect of dog aromatherapy, but it is definitely worth a try. If your dog tends to be hyper or nervous and anxious, try giving him a bath with a soothing essential oil soap and you’ll notice a big difference. Calming a pet isn’t the only use for dog aromatherapy, though. In fact, there are so many uses for this wonderful therapy that no matter why your dog?s mood, you can improve it.
- Increase appetite. For dogs who aren’t interested in food, a good aromatherapy treatment can boost their appetite and get them eating again. - Soothing. For the nervous dog, a calming treatment works wonders and can even help your dog sleep better. - Energizing. For older, lethargic dogs, the right scent can perk them right up and give them some extra pep. This is a very handy way to energize your tired canine before a walk. - Healing. When your dog isn’t in good health, it`s hard to know what to do for them, but there are dog aromatherapy treatments for many of the more common ailments, including nausea and cough. - Pain relief. For dogs with arthritis, aromatherapy can be very effective in alleviating the pain and making them more comfortable.
A great benefit that most pet owners don’t consider before getting into dog aromatherapy is that they will also be affected by the aromas. If you are using a peppermint essential oil to energize your dog, you?ll find yourself having more energy, as well! It?s a fun side effect of treating your dog and can be very relaxing as you share this experience with your canine friend. Choose essential oil blends that you can both enjoy for a true bonding experience.
Dog aromatherapy may be a fairly new addition to pet therapies, but it is an effective one. Experiment with different essential oil blends and products to find which ones work best with your dog. While you could mix your own, it?s often best to opt for a professionally formulated and tested product that is designed with specific benefits in mind. As more people become aware of how great it is for their dogs to benefit from this new therapy, more wholesale dog products are becoming available. This means more options for dog aromatherapy in your own home.

The right skin care product can do wonders for your skin, but most people aren’t sure exactly how to find that perfection product that does what they want it to. Instead, they bounce around, trying first one product and then another and never really getting the right one. If you are one of these people who simply hasn’t found the perfect skin care product, it’s time to learn just what to look for in the ideal skin care items.
Know Your Skin Type
Do you know what your skin type is:If you have oily or dry skin, it?s probably pretty apparent which you are, but combination skin can be tricky to diagnose. With combination skin, the cheeks tend to be dry and even flaky, while the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) are oily. If that sounds like your face, then you probably have combination skin.
It’s important to know which skin type you have. If you don?t know and you buy a product meant for oily skin, when yours is dry, you won?t get the desired results. There?s really no point in spending money on a product that won?t help your skin the way you need it to.
Check the Ingredients
Even if you don’t tend to have sensitive skin, there are certain ingredients that can really be harsh on the skin. Many skin care products have a variety of chemicals in them that can be quite damaging to skin if not used properly and even in small amounts, can cause skin problems. In general, it?s better to go with all natural ingredients.
Most people don’t really think to check the full ingredient list on their skin care products. It’s easy to get distracted by the big “Contains Vitamin E” or other large print ingredients on the front of the bottle. When a product claims to contain a certain ingredient, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it?s the main ingredient. It’s a good idea to take a look at what the entire product is made up of, not just the most popular ingredients.
Just because something uses herbs or real fruits doesn’t mean it’s ideal for your skin, though. In fact, many natural ingredients are also covered in pesticides which find their way into your skin care items. Fortunately, by choosing organic skin care products, you can avoid this problem. Organic products will be chemical and pesticide free, allowing the skin to breathe and most people won’t have any adverse reaction to organic items.
Test It
One of the best ways to be sure that a product is really the right one for you is to simply test it. Once you have chosen a skin care products that has organic ingredients and matches your skin type, it’s time to try it out and see how it works for you.
When testing skin care products, you’ll want to give them at least a week before making a decision. 3-4 weeks is even better, since it may take a little time for the product to work with your skin, especially if you have pre-existing conditions. For example, if you have particularly dry skin, it could take a couple of weeks for the lotion you use to really penetrate and take effect. The same thing goes for blemish creams and the like. They do tend to take time to work, so give your trial a proper time restriction so you can be sure.
Natural, organic skin care products that have been selected with your particular skin type in mind will always produce better results than those laden with chemicals. They work with the skin to create a healthy epidermis.

Summer has arrived; you’ve been waiting all year for this one precious week your week of vacation. Despite that fact that it?s against your better judgment, you are going to load up your family and too many bags of luggage into your car and begin the all too long journey to your vacation destination.
Before you put your poor, overloaded car through the long trek though, there are some things that you should look for. Things that will save you a lot of time wasted and a lot of headaches if you get them taken care of before you depart, rather than while you are in the middle of your trip.
First things first:check your tires. Even if you aren’t a weekend mechanic or regular “car guy” you should be able to spot noticeable damage to your car’s tires. If they are bald of tread, unevenly worn or if you can feel lumps as you pass your hand along your tires, this are all sure signs of them needing to be replaced. This isn’t a time to think, They’ll probably be okay,if they look and feel bad get them replaced. If you’ve gotten tires recently you should at the very least check the air pressure before hitting the road, because driving on a tire that has the improper air pressure can lead to a host of potential problems with said tire. One of the last things that you?ll need on your fantastic voyage is a blown tire on a busy highway, so if you simply aren’t sure and can?t figure out whether you need new tires, than take a quick ride over to your trusty mechanic.
Check all your fluid levels, check all your belts and hoses and make sure that your air conditioning system is working properly.
It’s Summer, it’s hot outside, so while you are on the road and the sun is blazing you’ll want to be able to operate your AC with the assurance that cold air will be coming out of the vents.
When you eye up your cars belts and hoses you are looking for any obvious cracks or areas of discoloration or dry rotting - a broken belt or ruptured hose can be a sure fire way to ruin the start of your vacation.
As far as the fluid levels go - you want to be full on everything, even if it seems like something insignificant ? trust me, when your are tooling down the highway at seventy-five miles an hour, that wind shield washer fluid is going to come in mighty handy getting those smashed bugs out of your line of sight.
Any questions that you aren’t sure of ? if you can?t figure out if something looks bad enough to need replacing or if you can’t remember when the last time you had your oil changed I’ve got two words for you ? tune up.
Once you get out on the long and lonesome road, the best thing that you can do for yourself) not to mention your family and car) is to pay attention?
Keep your eyes on the road: there are a lot more people traveling a lot farther distances than they may be accustomed to. This means that there could be a lot more chances for accidents because of an overload of frustrated drivers trying to do anything in their power, including ignoring common sense, to get to their final destination.
Keep your eyes (and ears) on your car. Watch your gauges ? all of them; the gas, the speedometer and the temperature. You need to run out of gas on a long stretch of road with no rest stop even less than you need to blow a tire ? at least you can replace a tire where you?re at, somebody?s going to have to walk to get that gas and I?m guessing that neither your wife or your kids are going to volunteer. Make sure your roadside assistance membership auto club is handy in case you are left in the middle of the road.
Your speedometer is another thing you don’t want to overlook. State highways equal state troopers, who are usually a lot less forgiving than your local neighborhood cop. The fines on a state highway can be very steep, not to mention that you are putting yourself at a greater risk of being involved in an accident if you’re not obeying the laws of the road.
Your temperature gauge may very well be the most overlooked gauge of all. If your car is running hot, you better slow down - and if that doesn’t do the trick pull over into a rest stop and give it a break, no matter how inconvenient it may seem at the time. It may not seem like too big of a deal, but driving a car while it?s overheated can do very serious damage to your engine.
Getting your car a checkup before you hit the road and watching it closely once you’re out there are the best ways to ensure a seamless trip to and from your destination, that way you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the time you have while you’re there.

Often the best days for a wedding are warm, hot even, and while this might be good for the bride and groom, it can wreak havoc on delicate flowers. Choosing a wedding flower that will stand up to the heat and look great throughout the ceremony and even long afterwards can be hard. You want something that is beautiful and fit for a bride, but still sturdy enough to hang in there, even in high temperatures.
What to Look For
Good wedding flowers are delicate looking, but not actually that fragile. It will withstand the summer heat and look terrific doing it. You have enough worries and stresses on your wedding day, flowers should definitely not be one of them, so select hardy flowers from the very beginning and you’ll be able to focus on more important things, like actually getting married.
Here are some of the characteristics to look for in a heat-resistant wedding flower.
- Thick, waxy petals are best. They tend to be stiffer and hold the moisture in longer than thinner petals which tend to shrivel and wilt in the heat. The thicker the petal, the stiffer it will be, making it more resistant to wilting. - Stiff leaves help with heat resistance, too. Leaves contain a lot of moisture that can be wicked up to the bloom and the greenery helps enhance the color of the wedding flowers. Wilted leaves make the entire bouquet look sickly, so thicker, waxier leaves are the best option. - Sturdy stems keep flowers upright. While the florist can place flower stems in plastic straws to help keep them upright when the heat threatens to send them drooping downwards, but it’s best to choose the right flowers with sturdy, thick stems that are strong enough to stand up even when slightly dried out. - Full blooms stay fresh longer. Flowers that aren’t just a few petals will last longer. Look for ruffled petals or multiple rounds, such as with a mum or carnation. These flowers do very well with holding in the moisture needed to survive a hot day, even when not placed in a vase of water.
If you have the budget, tropical flowers tend to be far better than our native blooms when it comes to withstanding the hot interior of a church or reception hall. They are grown in heat, so you’ll find that they are quite hardy when it comes to summer weddings. Most tropical flowers are very elegant, as well, so they make for very lovely bouquets and centerpieces.
Flowers like orchids, lilies and dahlias are all great ones for a wedding flower. They hold up to the heat very well and can take long drought periods, thanks to their hardy leaves and petals that retain moisture even in stifling conditions.
Your florist will also be able to recommend a more heat resistant wedding flower or two. The ideal would be a flower that you love the look of, which combines beauty with functionality. For a summer wedding, how well the flowers will stand up to the heat is a very important consideration. There is nothing more stressful on your wedding day than discovering that all your blooms are wilting away in the intense heat.
Choose your wedding flower carefully. You don’t want bouquets that look awful by the time you are ready to walk down the aisle. Tropical flowers, those with waxy, thick petals and leaves and any flower that is bushy and full of petals tend to be alright and will look great throughout the entire day.
