As the cost of living continues to rise, some regular copywriting positions are not able to generate the income one needs or wants. This has caused many copywriters to seek new supplemental forms of income. One such alternative is freelancing.

Becoming a freelance copywriter is different from other career moves because it allows you to utilize previously developed skills; you’re doing the same work in a different manner.

Freelancing has become popular not only for its ability to help bring in more income, but also for the flexibility freelancers have over their work schedules. Most jobs dictate your work schedule, but freelancers are able to mold their hours around their lives. This allows them to do less work when more important obligations come along, and make it up later when they have the time.

Freelancers make their money on a project-to-project basis. Clients post projects and freelancers bid on them. The winning freelance copywriter then has to complete the project in a given time period. Generally, the faster you can get a project done, the more money you can make. As a freelancer though, you have to effectively manage your time, but this allows you to work on multiple projects at once and help maximize your profits.

For time management purposes, it is best to avoid working as a freelancer while still being employed as a copywriter. You can do both, but it will add a lot of stress to your life and increase the risk of damaging your career. One of the main benefits of becoming a freelancer is the freedom you gain over your schedule. If you add freelancing on top of your employed position, you’re basically throwing away one of the best parts of freelancing. Also you want be able to take on as many projects as a freelancer, limiting your productivity. It will also increase your risk of missing deadlines, which can really hurt your career. If you miss a deadline at an agency, then you can get fired. If you miss a deadline as a freelancer, then you tarnish your credibility and hurt your chances of success. Many are afraid to quit their jobs and become a full freelancer, which is understandable, but don’t worry about it. There is plenty of work out there, so if you have proven skills as a copywriter and you can advertise yourself, then you will find success.

The demand for good copywriters guarantees that freelance copywriters can find work. Many businesses are finding that freelance copywriters can produce a more specialized product for a cheaper price than going through an advertising agency. Also, since companies will always need to sale their products, despite the condition of the economy, they will always need copywriters. These two things together create a great need for copywriters.

The Internet has created new opportunities for freelance copywriters as well. Copywriters are needed to write the web content for the products being sold more and more on the Internet. The Internet also allows copywriters to work when and where they want, as long as they have an Internet connection. Finally, the Internet helps freelancers find work. The Internet has opened up many doors for copywriters to find work that was previously unavailable to them.

Hopefully this article helped you see the benefits of freelance copywriting. Freelancers can generate more income with a better schedule than regular copywriters. If you’re interested in becoming a freelancer, then you should do some more research to see if freelance copywriting is right for you.

Copywriting is essentially the same in every field; the only differences lie in marketing strategies and the medians used to get an ad to an audience. This article in particular will look at how to write successful radio copy.

The first thing you should do is research your target audience. This is one of the most important things to do no matter what kind of copywriting you’re writing. If you fail to research your target audience then you will also fail at successfully motivating them into buying your product.

You should also talk to the particular station that’s going to run you ad. They should be able to tell you what kind of people listen to their station, which will help you tailor your ad to this stations and help you determine which stations are best suited to advertise your product.

Writing radio commercials requires that you be much more brief than when writing a sales letter because you only have a short amount of time in which to affect your listener.

Listen to the ads that your competing companies are playing on other stations; this will help you write your ads more effectively. Since each station focuses on a very narrow demographic, listening to other’s ad will help you see what is effective to your particular audience. You should then pattern you ads similarly to what you are hearing.

Here a couple of pointers to help you write better radio commercials. Make sure to not merely list a bunch of facts, but instead try to tell a story. This will catch and keep the audiences attention throughout the entire ad. If you’re selling a technical product, then you should use technical jargon early on in the ad. This way your particular audience’s attention will be caught early in the ad and help them listen to the entire thing. Testimonials are also very effective, so include them if you can.

Hopefully this article helped you learn more about writing radio commercials. Listen to different stations to hear what works and continue to learn more about your target audience in order to better motivate them. And since you only a short amount of time, remember to be clear and concise with your ad.

This article will examine web content copywriting in some detail. The copywriting field as a whole is growing, but web copywriting is growing even faster.

More and more people are hiring web copywriters as they realize the importance of good web content. Good web content is necessary for two reasons:

The first one being that the massive amount of websites out there makes it difficult for some pages to be noticed. Google reports that there are over 4 billion web pages out there today. Without good web content a webpage will not be noticed.

The second reason people are seeking better web content is so that they can get their website indexed by search engines. There are multiple ways to have your site indexed, but one of the best ways is by getting the attention of the search engines.

Search engines index a site by sending out search bots to analyze web content. Sites with web content deemed valuable get indexed and show up under searches. In order to get this done you need a good web copywriter who knows what they’re doing.

There is a lot of work available for web copywriters. They can write web content, sales letters and other marketing materials for websites. In addition to getting the attention of the search bots, you must also write material that effectively motivates readers to pursue a product.

Web copywriting will continue to grow because of the difficult nature of the job. It is no easy task to appease two audiences at once. It takes a lot of skill to write content that gets a site indexed and sells a product at the same time.

Hopefully this article has helped you learn more about web copywriting. It can be a very rewarding job financially and you can work from anywhere in the world as long as you have an Internet connection. You should at some time do more research on the topic if you’re interested in becoming a web copywriter.

This article will go over a few tips and tricks on how to maximize your sales letters. This information comes directly from Dan Kennedy’s book The Ultimate Sales Letter. Dan Kennedy is one of the foremost experts in the copywriting field and his books are very helpful.

Copywriters use their own writing to gain sales leads. If your work has been inconsistent, you should consider using a sales letter to help stabilize your workload. After you send out enough letters you will begin to learn how much work you can expect from how many letters you send out. This will allow you to stabilize your work and keep business coming in. You can then control your work as well. You can send out more letters when you have more time to work, or you can send out fewer letters when life gets a little busier.

If you have a lot of telemarketers as clients or you would like to start developing telemarketers as potential clients, then you may want to develop a sales letter. Due to new laws and a high amount of turnover, telemarketing has become much more expensive and more inconsistent. Developing a sales letter to send to qualified prospects can make telemarketing more effective and possibly reduce turnover. Quantifying savings and training employees in better sales will attract new telemarketing clients because they will see that you are successful despite their business’ struggles.

Another great area to discover new business is through doctors and dentists. Doctors and dentist are quite often looking for new clients and a well-made sales letter can help increase their referrals.

These were just a few methods outlined in Dan Kennedy’s book. If you’re just starting out in copywriting, or even if you’re a seasoned profession, this article, and Dan Kennedy’s books, can help you discover new business sources. Hopefully this article will help you maximize your sales letter and make you a more successful copywriter.

This article will examine copywriting rates and wages.

If you’re an employed copywriter, you can make a little or a lot of money depending on your skill level and how well you advertise yourself. In 2005 the average salary for a copywriter was around $60,000 with bonuses, according to Advertising Age. (quoted from www.collegeboard.com)

The income for a freelance copywriter is more difficult to estimate. Some charge their clients for each project while others charge an hourly rate. To help you better understand what a freelance copywriter can make, here are some rough figures from 2005: Freelancers generally charged $1000 to $2000 for a lead generating sales letter and $300 to $400 for a website.

About two out of every five copywriters earn somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 a year in gross income. If you would like to learn more about copywriting rates, you can find more here: www.excessvoice.com/copyfees.htm. Take advantage of these survey results so that you don’t undercharge yourself.

These figures are all a median from those surveyed, so if you have technical knowledge in a particular field that others don’t, then you could earn significantly more money. If you take some time to increase your knowledge and skill level, then you will develop a competitive edge and earn more money.

Hopefully this article helped you better understand what you could earn as a copywriter. If you want more information and more specific numbers then go to the link listed above and purchase some survey results, this will help you immensely.

But remember, these rates are the median. This is important to note, because depending on your skill level and the energy you put into your writing, you could earn far more than this. But also remember that the market is always changing, so make sure to keep up with what others are charging so that you aren’t under selling yourself. Your rates are dependent on the market, your skill level, and how well you sell yourself.

There are three common mistakes copywriters make which hurt sales and reduce the number of opt-ins. The aim of direct-response copywriters is to get a response, but these simple mistakes can render your written copy ineffective.

By correcting these three specific problems, you can instantly increase sales and opt-ins.

Today’s resource comes from my own site. You can download free copywriting videos by visiting this site: www.WebCopyWritingExplained.com

What are the three most common mistakes made by copywriters? They’re not grammar or syntax errors. They are rather errors in approach or mindset. While these may seem to be “soft” topics, they directly affect your results.

Here are three common mistakes you should avoid:

Not Writing to the Reader. Direct response great Robert Collier says that you must join the conversation that is already taking place in the mind of the reader. In my experience, most copywriters - especially online copywriters - do not do this. They don’t take the time to understand what is going on in the mind of their prospective reader. Get to know your audience and learn to write words that echo the thoughts, feelings and dominant emotions that they have. That’s the only way you can hope to influence their behavior. Eugene Schwartz in his landmark book, Breakthrough Advertising, says “You cannot, with your copy, create desire. You can only channel desire that already exists.”

Copy that sounds like advertising. Many copywriters are guilty of this - they see truly inspiring copy, and want to follow the same style. But is that style appropriate for the product you are selling, and the readers to whom you are selling it? There’s nothing wrong with finding inspiration, but you must write to your reader. Writing to impress other copywriters won’t sell products or services. It’s a sure promotion-killer!

Not Taking the Time to Know Their Product. When Eugene Schwartz wrote a promotion for a book, he read the book. Not oncebut three or four times! He would have 60 pages or more of notes before writing the sales copy. Many copywriters I encounter today are writing copy for a product they’ve never used or never read even once. This is a terrible mistake. It is a horrible disservice to your client as well as to your readers. Get to know your product intimately. You’ll get better copy and, as a result, better sales.

Ask for an opinion about long copy, and you will get it! People think that it doesn’t work, it’s old-fashioned and nobody reads it. Well, I’m here to tell you that reports of the death of long copy have been greatly exaggerated. Long copy sales letters are not dead.

Today’s resource is from my own online copywriting course, available at WebCopyWritingExplained.com. In this lesson, I explain why long copy works and show you how to use it effectively.

Here are three reasons long copy is still effective:

We love to read about what we love. When you’re interested in a certain product or service or video, don’t you love to visit websites that tell you more about it? Don’t you love to find books on your favorite topics? There’s a favorite little bookstore of mine here in Spokane called Auntie’s Bookstore. When I go in there with a topic in mind, I don’t just buy one book on that topic, I buy ALL the books on that topic! You could verify that if you could see my office here. You would see hundreds of books on the subject of marketing, copywriting and web conversion. We love to read about what we love, and that includes sales letters about what we love!

Selling online is different from selling in person. When you deal with a client in person, you aren’t only listening to what he says. You are also reading his body language, looking for clues to his thoughts. By contrast, when you sell online, you lose all those valuable visual cues. Instead, you have to define your client’s objections in advance, then answer these objections. This can take a lot of words, and lead you directly to long copy!

Long copy allows you to tell a story. Stories sell. If you doubt this, I recommend the book All Marketers Are Liars by Seth Godin. It talks about the power of story selling and why it’s so important to your business.

Do I have you convinced? Try this simple formula to create a four-part long copy sales letter that can get you results if done properly. This formula is credited to John Carlton - I love his material, and highly recommend it to you:

Here’s what I have to offer. Here you explain exactly what you are offering to people reading your copy.

Here’s why it’s right for you. Solve your reader’s problems, and explain why you are the right choice.

Here are some answers for you. Here, you answer any questions that they may have in advance.

Here’s what to do now. Buy! Pull out your credit card! That’s what you want them to do! Right now!

It is interesting to note that you could use each of these headlines, exactly as written, to start each section in your copy. Try it — it really works!

Should you use a “squeeze page” on your website, or have these pages lost their effectiveness?

A “squeeze page” is one that forces your site visitors to give you their name and email address in exchange for some kind of bribe an audio training, a special report, or piece of software.

Making a free offer to your site visitors in exchange for their name and e-mail address is a great way to grow your e-mail list, but it has to be done carefully so that you don’t also drive away potential customers.

Here are some things to think about

It is important to build your email list; the more subscribers you have, the more sales you can make.

The problem we run into these days is simple: people are more reluctant than ever to give up their email address. The squeeze page is still the best way to build your list, but it requires more thought today than it did even a few months ago. Using a squeeze page carelessly can do your business more harm than good.

The best place to use a squeeze page is as the “gate” to your salesletter. That means using it on a site that sells only one product, not on a catalog-style site. The list you build from such a squeeze page will be highly targeted.

There are many kinds of sites that should not use a squeeze page.

Don’t put a squeeze page in front of your portal site, your branding site, or your blog. Putting a squeeze page in front of those kinds of sites does not make sense. Those sites have a very different purpose than sites that are intended to sell one targeted product or promotion.

Remember that your squeeze page is a gate.

It keeps people out of your website and it can potentially scare off your customers.

When you’re marketing to a targeted audience, and offering strong “ethical bribe” such as a video, audio recording, or special report, your squeeze page can be a valuable list-building tool.

The growing problems of spam, viruses and spyware have made people more reluctant than ever to give up their name and e-mail address.

The answer to this issue is simple, in my opinion. Squeeze pages can build your list super-fast; you just have to choose the right websites and scenarios in which to use them.
