There are over 100 million American adults that should seek medical advice to lower their high blood cholesterol levels. Statins, a cholesterol lowering medication which have few side effects have helped to fight heart disease and lower cholesterol levels, even though Americans are actually getting fatter.

Despite this epidemic problem, there is good news. You can do something about the problem and that’s what this article is all about. We will take a laymen’s look at cholesterol and the statin medications that your doctor would prescribe to better your personal health. We will review the different types of statin medications available for the treatment of high cholesterol.

Cholesterol a waxy, fat like substance shows itself naturally in cell membranes and walls throughout your body. Producing hormones is one of the uses of cholesterol. If there is too much cholesterol in your bloodstream problems begin to surface.

Your doctor may decide that you need help in controlling your cholesterol if you are not able to reduce it using natural treatments. Even if your doctor prescribes any of these medications, you must still follow through with healthy lifestyle treatments as well. There are several different types of medications used to lower cholesterol, but we will focus only on statins.

What are statins and how do they work? Statins repress the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. This enzyme controls the rate that cholesterol produces itself in the body. These drugs can lower cholesterol from 20 to 60%. They slow the production while they increase the liver’s ability to withdraw LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins). Statins lower the LDL levels better than any other type of drug.

Statins can also produce a modest increase of HDL (High Density Lipoproteins) while decreasing total cholesterol and triglycerides. Positive results are usually seen after just 4 to 6 weeks of beginning the medication. Overall statins are proven for lowering heart attack risks, strokes and other coronary diseases related to high cholesterol levels.

It is not advised to take statins if any of the following pertain to you: allergies to statins themselves or their ingredients; you have a history of myopathy; you have renal failure; you consistently consume inordinate amounts of alcohol; you have liver disease; or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your physician if you are unsure whether or not statin medications are right for you.

Brand names of statins that you might recognize are Lipitor, Lescol, Mevacor, Altocor, Pravahol, Zocor and Crestor. There are some drug and/or food interactions that you should be aware of. More than one quart of grapefruit juice per day can decrease the ability of the liver to process some statins. More importantly there may be other medications that can interact and cause serious side effects.

If you are taking prescription or even over-the-counter drugs such as: birth control pills, immune system medications, medication for infections, medication for heart failure, HIV or AIDS, herbal supplements, Coumadin, or other cholesterol drugs make sure to let your doctor know before taking statins.

Although very rare, it is possible for side effects to surface from the use of statins. If you happen to experience vomiting, discolored urine, pain, muscle soreness, stomach pain, or weakness immediately discontinue the use of the medication and contact your physician.

Insomnia is not a disease by itself. It could represent a symptom from a physiologic and emotional imbalance or simply manifestation of tiredness induced by lack of sleep. This condition is demonstrated by any of the following: a) light, discontinuous sleep that one is still tired out upon awakening, b) not being able to sleep, even if wiped out, c) lack of sleeping time. Although this condition is generally temporary, insomnia may be classified based on the length of time it has impacted the affected patient.

* Transient Insomnia - This condition persists just for a few days. Transient insomnia is normally induced by stress or as a direct response to changes. It is now and again named adjustment sleep disorder. The disorder may originate after a harmful event or even during modest changes such as travel or weather condition changes.

Caffeine and nicotine are also observed to affect sleeping patterns. Caffeine, which is present in coffee, and nicotine, present in cigarettes, can cause transient insomnia. In most cases, treatment for transient insomnia is not necessary. It usually resolves after a few days once the person was able to adjust to the new situations or surroundings.

* Short-term Insomnia - This endures for 3 weeks or less. Short-term insomnia and transient insomnia are just about similar in their causes.

Female hormonal changes can affect sleep patterns. One of the female hormones, progesterone, promotes sleep. During menstruation, when its levels are low, women may experience insomnia. On the other hand, during ovulation, the increase in progesterone levels increases sleepiness. Fluctuations in the level of progesterone during pregnancy and menopause cause altered sleeping patterns leading to transient insomnia. Although women after 50 also experience chronic insomnia, this is usually caused by psychological or emotional factors.

Changes in working conditions, such as changing schedules, also cause short-run insomnia. Similarly, folks who tend to overwork get little rest than the median. Once, insomnia was also detected in people doing a great deal of electronic computer work.

Light can also touch on one’s sleep. A bit much light at nighttime can interrupt sleep or even prevent sleepiness. Also, little light during the day, as in disabled or senior patients who seldom go out can also cause short-term insomnia. This is since the degrees of melatonin reacting to darkness. Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland, a pea-sized gland at the centre of the brain, that assists and regulates the cycles of sleeping and awaking.

* Chronic insomnia - when an individual could not sleep, has discontinuous sleep, or is all the same exhausted after sleeping; and the circumstance repeats for more than two nights each week for more than one calendar month. Also, it is characterised when the patient is wore out and supposes that his day-to-day activities are affected by this sleeping precondition.

Based on the cases, chronic insomnia may make up additional characteristics - primary or secondary: * Primary chronic insomnia - when the insomnia is not induced by any physiological or mental imbalance. * Secondary chronic insomnia - may be caused by physical and psychological conditions, such as clinical depression, or emotional and psychiatrical disorders.

In one study, in industrialised nations, chronic insomnia impacts about 10 percent of grownups. Insomnia can affect a patient during daylight when patient may feel sleepiness in the mornings or in the afternoon. Some, in spite of their sleepiness report failure to sleep. Even worse, another group described exuberant energy during the day. These people are more anxious and even more testy.

Due to failure to get enough rest, these people have reduced concentration. If someone has preexisting medical condition, such as orthopedic pain or arthritis, this may be worsened by insomnia. When one suspects that he or she has insomnia, consulting a doctor would be the best advise. One of these therapies may also be tried.

* Minimizing ingestion of beverages containing caffeine. This includes coffee, cola and chocolate. It is advisable to limit intake after 3pm. For most individuals, these substances are excreted from the body in a couple of hours. But some people have slow biological excreting process, which caffeine can remain in the body longer than the norm.

* People can also limit stay in bed during the sleeping hours. This is effective to increase the tendency to sleep when in bed.

What is AdSense? Can I earn a large amount of money with it? These are common questions people ask when they encounter the word AdSense. And here’s the answer to those questions. AdSense is an advertising program created by Google. How does it work? Let’s say that you have a website about Maltese dogs. When you enroll for an AdSense account, they place ads on your website that are relevant to the content on your website. Ads can be about training Maltese dogs, products for pet dogs, and so on. And when a visitor to your site clicks on these ads, you earn money. That’s basically how AdSense works. Neat, huh?

AdSense is both appealing and easy, and it essentially means that your website will start making money on its own - you don’t have to do anything. Just let the ads run and you get to cash the checks. But for many people, sometimes these checks are hardly anything to write home about. Perhaps they earn a couple of hundred every few months but that’s it. And yet there are a number of other people who are earning anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000 every month with AdSense. What’s the secret? Why is it that some people are earning a pittance with AdSense and others are getting big bucks?

The Secret Revealed: There is no secret! Those lucky ones just have a sharp understanding of how AdSense really work. Let me explain. AdSense is worked by keywords. And these keywords have their corresponding money values. One keyword can have a value of 50 cents while another is valued at 50 dollars per click. And those keywords with high values are the ones that are mostly entered in Google. Examples of high-paying keywords can be: diet, health, cars, loans, etc… Now, to gain big bucks on AdSense, you have to have these high-paying keywords on your website. The more keywords you have, the bigger the bucks.

However, and this is a point you should consider. Let’s say you have all those high-paying keywords on your website. But you wouldn’t be able to make money unless someone clicks those ads. What you have to do here is to entice your viewers enough to get them to click those ads. You can do this by making sure that your site is filled with quality content, interesting, original and well written. Make sure your content is related to those high-paying keywords. For example. “Credit” is a high-paying AdSense keyword that can generate a lot of money. To get AdSense to work for you, you will need to post relevant content like credit card information that will generate enough interest in your readers to get them to click on those ads.

But getting content and articles for good AdSense keywords can also be a very time-consuming affair. You’ll either have to write them yourself or you’ll have to collect them from other resources.
