Harvard University is the oldest and, arguably, the most prestigious university in the United States. In 2005, the Times Higher Education Supplement and the Academic Ranking of World Universities both ranked Harvard University first among the universities of the world. In addition, the US News and World Report rankings placed Harvard at the top of the list in a tie with Princeton. Moreover, with a financial endowment of $25.5 billion in 2005, Harvard is considered the wealthiest university in the United States and in the world.

Located at Cambridge, Massachusetts, Harvard was founded in 1663, incorporated as “The President and Fellows of Harvard College.” It was named Harvard College in 1639 after John Harvard, a young clergyman and the institution’s first principal donor. John Harvard, a product of Emmanuel College in Cambridge, left in his will several hundred pounds and a few hundred books to the college, which formed the foundation of its college library collection. On record, the first known official reference to Harvard as a “university” rather than a college was in 1780 in the Massachusetts Constitution.

During his tenure as Harvard president from 1869 to 1909, Charles Park instituted a number of radical changes that made the university into what was then known as the modern research university. Among his reforms were elective courses, small classes and entrance examinations. Owing to its successful implementation of these reforms, Harvard served as the model that influenced the American educational system greatly, both at the college and secondary levels.

In 1999, Radcliffe College, which was originally founded as the “Harvard Annex” for women, was formally merged with Harvard University to form the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Today, Harvard has the fourth largest library collection in the world and the largest financial endowment of any academic institution. It lists over 6,000 undergraduate and 13,000 postgraduate students as well as a staff of 2,300. Its well-known motto is “veritas” or truth. Since 1875, the official school color is crimson and that’s also the name given to Harvard sports teams as well as the daily school newspaper, The Harvard Crimson Tide.

If you want to talk about technology creating a feel good humanitarian story, then look no further than audio books for the blind.

Our society has always been visual and is becoming increasingly so: from newspapers and books to computer screens, blind people have faced the struggle of accessing information that is readily available to most other people. The ability to read a book or newspaper is taken for granted by many of us, but it is a pleasure that is often denied the blind.

Additionally, using a computer and the internet to obtain information is much more difficult for visually impaired people. While it’s true that Braille is one method for visually impaired people to enjoy the written word and gain knowledge, conventional feel-reading can be expensive and, therefore, not very helpful to many blind people.

When audio books for blind people were developed, it opened many doors for the blind, allowing them to easily get information, hear a story, and stay updated on current events.

With the mass production of audio books for the blind, and others, visually impaired people for the first time are able to really go online right now and download dozens of different audio books for themselves. With this, they have the ability to learn for free or cheaply in a way that has not been available to them before.

It is clear that audio books for the blind have really helped many people obtain an education that they would not have had ten or in some cases even five years ago, and it is yet another example of how the technological world we live in has created huge advantages for people everywhere.

The scope of audio books for the blind is unlimited, giving visually impaired people the ability to enjoy subjects like art, music, drama, history, economics, geography, literature, and more. This would have been unimaginable - or at least a dream - even a few years ago.

In the area of education, audio books have been particularly helpful and effective. Core subjects of reading, writing, math, and science are able to be learned through audio books, making easy access to education a right enjoyed by the blind and visually impaired.

Audio books for the blind can also be obtained simply for the pleasure of reading a story. There are thousands of books available in audio formats that can be easily accessed for enjoyment by visually impaired people, and this includes popular and contemporary authors, fiction books of all genres, and non-fiction works as well.

Audio books are a great example of how technology can benefit and enhance people’s lives, especially those with disabilities.

Up until a few years ago the highest qualification available in Business Administration was the Master of Business Administration (MBA), a highly-valued qualification offered by many major universities. On completion, some students would progress to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), but this was seen as a research qualification, rather than something of direct use to practicing managers.

In recent years the qualifications landscape has changed, due to the introduction of a new qualification, the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA). The DBA is a perfect example of a new type of qualification, the Professional or Vocational Doctorate. Professional doctorates are usually awarded in fields where most candidates for the degree are involved in the practice of a profession, rather than carrying out scholarly research. In addition to the DBA, these include EngD (Engineering), EdD (education), DSocSci (Social Science) and nd DClinPsych (Clinical Pychology).

The name of a Professional Doctorate generally specifies the subject area in which it is awarded, rather than the more generic Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), which can be awarded in any subject area. PhD programmes are usually research-based, with no taught content, other than perhaps a few short courses in research methodology. By contrast, Professional Doctorates usually include a year of advanced-level study prior to the research phase. In the case of the DBA, this taught component often focuses on current hot topics, such as entrepreneurship and branding.

The DBA also incorporates a research element, but this tends to be applied research, rather than the scholarly research typical of PhD programmes. Professional doctorates require the submission of a body of original research of a similar length to a PhD thesis. However, this might take the form of a portfolio of technical reports on different research projects, as opposed to a single, long thesis.

Many candidates undertake a DBA on a part-time basis, fitting it around their work commitments. In this case, the research element may be something of direct relevance to their employer and the course may even be sponsored by an employer. A thesis may be jointly supervised by faculty members and company employees.

At present relatively few institutions offer DBA programmes, but the numbers are increasing rapidly and include such well known names as Harvard University and Heriot-Watt University. It remains to be seen whether DBA programmes will come to rival the MBA in popularity, but don’t be surprised when you start hearing prominent businessmen being referred to as “Doctor”.

If you emote well, the audience will feel more involved in your performances.

Remember if you want to learn how to sing, you need to make the time to practice but not to do too much so you injure your vocal cords. If you aspire to be a fine singer, make appropriate breath support your primary concern. When singers practice breath support regularly, they will find that the power and dynamics of the voice will increase exponentially. There will be elimination of uncontrolled vibrato and a mediocre sound when breath support is used. Make it a part of your regular practice so that it will become second nature to you every time you sing.

How can you develop breath support every time you sing? You to need to be attentive to how you breathe while you are in the process of singing. The majority of people tend to breathe shallowly, so they only use part of their lungs. Without full knowledge of how and when you breathe, you will hold yourself back from becoming a good singer.

Most singers today realize how important the role of the diaphragm represents. If used correctly, the diaphragm will push and control the quantity of air going through your lungs while you sing. It is paramount that a singer learns how to use the diaphragm to enhance the quality, tone, and projection of the voice.

As a singer, train yourself to control the way that you breathe, so that you use the diaphragm for your breath support when you sing. As you use the diaphragm, keep the stomach stable with no movement as you practice your breath support. If you do this accuragely, the diaphragm will be doing the best job for your breath support when you sing.

The lungs greatly increase in size when you inhale and slowly push out the air. As you sing while doing this technique, you will find that the muscles that sustain your lungs will enlarge. If you want to get skilled at more techniques, your teacher or a qualified or suggested online singing courses will furnish more information.

An upright and straight back will give you excellent posture and enable you to make the air eject more easily from the diaphragm. If your neck and shoulders are tense and stressed, it will make your diaphragm less effective. As a result, the singer’s voice can sound much less powerful and not project well at all, so good posture should be your main concern while performing.

Breath support is a essential part of vocal training, whether it is by an experienced teacher or a qualified Internet singing course. It is important because the knowledge of proper breathing and breath support is basic to a good singer’s foundation. As you apply your daily breath support exercises, you will discover that it gets more natural and easier every time you do it.

Good breath support will give your speaking voice more fullness and authority, so that you will seem to have more confidence. And as a performer, you will sing with more power and fullness of voice which every singer wants to have. Remember, that every skill that you can master to enhance your singing will place you at an advantage over others that do not use correct breath support.

If you ever sang in the shower (because there are some great acoustics in the bathroom) what happens when you want to hit the high note? Do you strain and crack and then force air that turns your thin note into a falsetto? Many people do not have the proper vocal training to hit the high notes with ease, if you want to stay a shower head balladeer then hiring a vocal coach does not make much sense.

Most people never really think about it, but most people treat their voices roughly every day by shouting, shrieking, coughing loudly, and not to mention using cigarettes. This poor treatment of your voice in combination with the limited range of sound you do when you are speaking, does not help the voice if you are a singer at all. No singer who wants to be taken seriously must treat their voice this poorly, so they should get some input from an experienced vocal performer about care of the singer’s voice.

As a singer, set aside several hours for a quiet time-out for your vocal cords as this is vital for a singer who needs to perform for an audience. Stop talking and using your speaking voice. Once you start singing and using your voice, do not try to exert yourself too much to reach high pitches. Note that the perfect breathing technique should enable you to reach those high notes effortlessly.

A singer must practice the right breath support as it is an integral part of a singer’s skills. In everyday living, notice that breathing involves speaking, exercising, dancing, walking, or anything that involves your lungs to recirculate breath. Note that if you do not take the time to train yourself how to breathe correctly you will not be able to sing higher notes.

If you want to sing falsetto, you don’t need to use your lungs at all. When you sing falsetto, you will use the muscles in the neck and throat which singers do not use for actual singing. Try to let go of stress so that that your breath flows easily and effortlessly to reach those high notes, such as using those Lamaze breathing methods for expecting mothers.

If you do not have a vocal coach and have to practice at home its harder to know if you are achieving the higher notes by ear. If you play piano then you can use scales to help you hit the higher notes. On guitar you can usually match a chord or practice with certain songs. You are not supposed to mirror higher notes until you can understand the root of the note.

You can start recording yourself during one of your practice sessions so that you can learn to listen to yourself. By listening to the recording you may be able to detect if you sound out of tune, hear if your range expanded, and listen if you can understand your diction. Keep recording yourself as a regular part of your practice routine.

When you sing and hear yourself you can match your singing voice as it allows you to know where you are at and how high you need to sing to reach above your own voice. It also gives you a chance to sing harmony and melody with yourself. This also helps to know your vocal range and what you need to work on to achieve the higher notes while you sing.

Being a gifted photographer involves so much more than being able to just point a camera at something and push a button. If you want to take exceptional pictures, you have to be willing to put your camera on manual and remember a few tips. Many different situations call for particular knowledge of what lenses to use, what light settings to try, and sometimes even how to care for a camera in extreme climates or sandy beaches.

Learning how to frame a photograph and position your subjects are basics all photographers should learn. You must know what makes an intriguing composition and how to position yourself so as to weed out distractions in the photograph, for instance. The best composition calls for an artistic eye.

A more technical knowledge is necessary to make sure the lighting for a photograph is adequate. To the amateur, using a flash sounds like the best thing in dim light, but a flash often creates glare and harsh shadows, washing out the whole picture. It can be tough, however, to judge whether you have enough natural light. The direction of a light source is important as well. For example, brilliant noon sun may seem like a great time to take a picture-plenty of light! However, the shadows and squinting are often disastrous. Lazy afternoon sunbeams, on the other hand, provide magical lighting chances.

Holidays are ususual occasions for picture taking, but they are often accompanied by difficult lighting situations. Halloween involves softly lit jack o lanterns and costumed children going door to door at night. The Fourth of July features nighttime fireworks displays. Christmas offers amazing holiday displays, Christmas tree lights, and candles. Working in these situations takes a little expertise, but the results can be fabulous.

There are some incredibly helpful photography articles online which offer lots of pointers on a variety of subjects. Learn how to photograph particular subjects from kids and animals to sporting events. Get tips on vacation photography and action photography, as well as all of the aforementioned tough lighting situations. Whatever your photography question, you can most often find an answer among these articles.

Documentation is important for a variety of reasons in homeschool. The obvious is the meet any state regulations and requirements that may be there. Another encouraging reason is it is a way to track the progress of each child. When play is used in learning, it is very necessary for the parent to provide some sort of record.

A topic that frequently comes up in meetings and forums that deal with homeschooling is record keeping. The importance of record keeping cannot be ignored. It is not only legally required in various States, but also provides important milestones in your child’s learning experience. An interest-initiated homeschooling approach means that the topic of studies is far ranging and multifarious. Thus, it can be something of a challenge to write quarterly reports for the school district, when it is difficult to classify learning into neatly pigeonholed areas.

Record keeping can be a simple or complex process, depending on your style and state requirements. It may be a simple daily journal recording work, or it make be a software program. Some states have set forms that are mandatory for use, or certain groups use a consistent type of record. Whatever is chosen, recording on a daily basis keeps it simple and avoids a mountain of backlog trying to catch up if let go.

Various record keeping methods used by various homeschools. Some popular ones are:

Journal: This can be maintained by the parent or the student if the student is old enough. Basically the goal is to keep a log of what was learned and what was done. Recording highlights that happened in the course of the year is a great way to reflect and remember later on.

Daily Planner: Write in assignments for the week in a teacher’s planning book. Make sure every topic is covered. Document separate entries where any additional things may need to be accounted for. Be sure to include special projects, assignments, field trips, etc. Record a summary every quarter of work done and lessons learned.

Portfolios: This includes of a collection of varied materials that show what the student has achieved and learned during the course of study. Portfolio assessment is a very effective method to document the child’s progress. It provides structure to the otherwise loose and flexible form of schooling called homeschooling. A drawing portfolio will consist of some artwork or drawings that are thought to represent the best in that quarter. A language portfolio may consist of reports, essays, reading-logs, spelling samples or letters. Progress in math, fine arts, history, science and social studies can all be recorded in similar fashion. Having a tangible record of what they have learned encourages them on to greater heights of learning.

Other than the above mentioned systems, there are also purchased software type programs to help record. Some of these allow one to personalize the organizer. Whatever the method used, documentation in one form or the other is vital. Your child’s educational future may well depend on the well-maintained record that you have kept over the years.

California Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as Caltech, is a privately owned research university that offers an intensive curriculum specializing in the natural sciences and engineering. Celebrated for their aeronautical advances in jet-propulsion, Caltech works very closely with NASA. Despite the world renown, Caltech maintains a relatively small student body, with slightly over two thousand students enrolled in both its graduate and undergraduate programs.

Founded in 1891 by businessman Amos G. Throop, Caltech began as a humble vocational school. The school was made into a significant scientific institution by the astronomer George Hale. He was among the first directors of the institution and during his tenure he succeeded in convincing stakeholders to shape the school in such a manner as to be one of the foremost scientific research institutions in the world. His petition resulted in major contributions, in the form of land grants and new facilities, heralded the school as a world-class power. He managed to convince two successful scientists, physical chemist Arthur Amos Noyes and experimental physicist Robert Andrews Millikan, to join the institution. Millikan would subsequently win the Nobel Prize for his dedicated service to humanity.

The California Institute of Technology is arguably the most successful research institute on the west coast. It presently claims thirty-one Nobel laureates as alumni or faculty. No more than 25,000 students have passed through Caltech’s doors. This means the ratio of Nobel laureates to alumni is so small no other university comes close to matching them. Other notable alumni who received Nobel prizes include Edward B. Lewis, Linus Pauling, Carl D. Anderson and William A. Fowler.

At Caltech, the emphasis is obviously quality over quantity. Various interdisciplinary programs have been started to give students a survey of inter-related fields of study. The academic workload at Caltech has been fairly distributed to ensure students are successful with their coursework. The grading system has been designed in such a manner as to allow students to know their academic standing as early in the semester as possible. This helps students put the necessary emphasis on their academic performance in subsequent exams.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Caltech became fervent rivals over the decades. This rivalry has taken on several dimensions, including a long legacy of reciprocal pranks. These two institutions are known worldwide as centers of exemplary academic research and graduate the upper echelons of our scientific community.

Have you every tried singing in the bathroom and you just have to aim for that high note? Does that spooky sound falsetto happen because when you are attempting the high notes so your voice sounds so thin it sounds like a ghost screaming? Most amateur singers don’t have a clue what to do because they haven’t gotten the know-how through voice lessons from a professional teacher.

There are some really bad things we do to our voices, we yell, we smoke, we scream and that’s just the morning commute on the freeway! Seriously, we limit our vocal range by how we exercise our voices. If we strain our voices then we don’t allow any range to develop, so to develop a voice that can sing higher notes you will need to find someone who can give you advice that can really help.

If you want to take yourself seriously, make sure that you rest your voice so that it is not overused and become raspy sounding. Speaking with your voice too much will also create problems, so as a singer protect your voice by not using until absolutely necessary. When you use good breath support the correct way, you will find that you will be able to attain those high notes with ease.

When you train with correct breathing it becomes the most important part of singing. Talking involves breathing, swimming, running; anything that makes you use your lungs to allow air to be recycled needs to be practiced. If you are not breathing properly you cannot allow your voice to react in a way that will allow you to sing higher.

During one of your practice sessions, start recording your voice singing. Sometimes singers cannot tell if they are doing anything wrong unless they record their voice while they sing. You can detect diction errors, intonation, improvements in you range, and much more. It’s a great way to help you enhance your training as a singer.

While you sing and listen try to sing along with your recorded voice to see if you can match exactly the recorded voice. You can even try to sing in harmony just for fun, or just sing along with the melody of the song that you recorded. You will then become familiar with your range when you sing and try to expand it even more with more practice.

Vacation hint number one: The state of Washington is a gorgeous place to take a vacation. No matter where you go, it’s hard to beat the beautiful outdoor scenery there, and it can unexpectedly seem almost exotic to visitors that are new to the area. Check out the majestic beauty of Cape Alava or Rattlesnake Mountain, just a couple of the hundreds of gorgeous spots you can visit. If you like doing outdoor activities, there are plenty of trails for hiking and biking. There are also tours and cruises available for those who prefer less physical activity. For those who prefer the bright lights of the city instead, you canat go wrong with a trip to Seattle.

Great travel destination two: Learn how much more Nevada has to offer than just gambling. You can enjoy world-class skiing, golfing, and snowmobiling in the Lake Tahoe area. In the southern part of the state, you can take a drive along Highway 50, the same route the Pony Express used to take. And up north, you can even relive the old days of being a cowboy with a visit to one of the many ranches there.

Tip number three: Water sports in Arizona. The deserts state isn’t immediately associated with water and boating, but it does have lakes, and some of them are a paradise for boating and water activities. The best one might just be Lake Pleasant, just thirty miles north of Phoenix. It offers excellent water skiing, sailing, jet skiing and fishing. Fifty miles of shoreline and crystal clear water makes it a great stop on your holiday.

Vacation hint number four: Believe it or not, you should definitely check out the multitude of cultural activities available in Salt Lake City, Utah. The capital city boasts an opera company, a ballet company, a symphony orchestra, and many prestigious theaters. There is also the local flavor to experience. For those who are visiting for the first time, the Mormon influence adds a touch of flair to this all-American city.

Tip number five: Yosemite. Sure, we all know it is there, but have you actually been? This part of California is very different from the rest of the sunny, crowded state. Giant redwoods and mountain views offer a soul-soothing experience. If you come from the south, driving the Pacific Coast Highway is an experience that shouldn’t be missed. Discover Monterey with its Cannery Row, the two centuries old Carmel Mission, and perhaps see the Lone Cyprus overlooking the sea.

Tip number six: A long weekend in Portland, Oregon. The Portland Metropolitan area is a big city not quite like other big cities. With its vibrant arts community, multitude of parks and green spaces, excellent public transportation and generally liveable atmosphere, Portland is pleasant and friendly as well as urban and exciting.

Wherever you want to go, whatever you want to experience, the Western United States has something to offer. These travel tips will help you get started planning your holiday adventure, but don’t be afraid to look beyond travel tips to discover your own favorite spots. After all, that’s how a new secret paradise is made. Good luck, and travel safely!

Grammar is an important part of the English language, and the only way to learn is by making an effort by taking English grammar lessons.

ESL grammar lessons can be utilized in conjunction with mainstream lesson plans in order to create printable lessons that will help you greatly in your understanding, but understanding where to get these English grammar lessons is also important.

The first place you can go in order to find good English grammar lessons, exercises and feedback is the internet.

You can find lessons, articles, tests and other useful papers for free online. If you are very good at self-study and don’t need to be pushed and prodded along within a rigid structure, you can improve your grammar and save a lot of money in the process.

However, human nature is such that most people are not going to be comfortable with this type of arrangement.

English grammar is challenging even for native English speakers, and it can be boring. To learn effectively, most people need the structure of a class to help deal with this.

Several areas of English grammar may be difficult for people to learn on their own through online lessons. Adjectives and verbs, for instance, can be tricky because of the way different languages use them.

To help overcome this difficulty and others, there are many great classes available. You can find them both online and in your community. To find them, do a simple internet search and see what comes up.

When choosing which English grammar lessons to try, look at your list and determine how each program can help you with your goals.

Any course will cover nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and other basics; what you should be concerned with is the style of teaching. Are the lessons taught in a way that you can easily understand?

Your personality may determine which type of English grammar lessons is best. Do you like to learn one thing fully before moving on to the next? Or do you like to just jump in and figure it out as you go?

Knowing what type of learner you are will help you pick a class that is right for you.

Grammar can be a tough subject to tackle as it can be both challenging and tedious. Try a class that is interactive and fun so you will have the best chance of learning the material and completing the course of study.

As a researcher and autistic survivor, I can state that children with autism can hear sounds above the average person hearing range. Although high pitch sounds cannot be heard normally, to an autistic child these sounds can cause intense inner ear pain.

In an effort to stop this inner ear pain, the autistic child will cover or slap their ears or in severe cases bang their head against a wall to knock out the pain.

Since Genet wasn’t able to verbalize that his ears hurt, his parents didn’t know he was in pain.

This intense pain existed and he was totally trapped and isolated within his own body, not being able to express to his parents what he was experiencing. ” I was isolated in my own world where this pain existed. I saw the world from the inside out. I was not able to cross over to a proper reality” says Genet.

Genet furthers explains, “My brain’s inability to ground to its physical body didn’t allow me to complete the pathway or circuit into a normal reality. In the world I lived in, I spoke properly, maintained mental focus, emotional balance and occasionally felt this inner ear pain.

I wasn’t able to travel back and forth between a normal reality and the only reality I knew, due to this lack of grounding. I wasn’t able to create any mental, emotional or physical filters that would protect me from these high pitch sounds. In a normal reality, people can filter out these sounds, protecting them from this intense inner ear pain. I could not.”

Genet states that there were two reasons why his brain couldn’t ground itself to his physical body.

1) The chemical preservatives in his childhood vaccinations reeked havoc on his brain’s ability to form proper brain wave frequencies needed for this grounding to occur.

2) The electro magnetic fields of energy in the home that interferes with the brain’s circuitry. These fields of energy are generated by the use of florescent lighting, microwave ovens, TV’s, computers, electronic equipment, flying in airplanes, and driving in a car.

The slapping of ears or banging the head against the wall, 98% of the time isn’t a rebellious or acting out behavior, they are in intense pain

It’s been predicted that 78 million baby boomers will retire over the next 25 years, and the devastating effects will be felt around the world. If you’ve not heard about the baby boom crisis here’s what people have been saying and experiencing since 2003.

A group of researchers in Finland produced a report back in 2003 called, “Preparing for the Labour Market Change, Caused by the Baby Boom Generation”. It says that from 2010, the population will start to decrease, and by 2030 will have decreased by about 400,000 people, and that labour capacity will continue it’s downward trend through the 2010s, with 30,000 people walking out the door every year. And to make matters worse, we don’t have the young people to replace them.

But Kevin Coyne, lead researcher of Coyne Partnership Inc., recently contradicted these predictions. He claims that there’s no real “crisis”, and that this baby boom thing is “much ado about nothing”.

US Nations Chief Accountant David M Walker, would certainly disagree with Coyne. Walker has stated on more than one occasion; the baby boom crisis is coming, and will have a devastating affect on the US economy in the foreseeable future.

With so much publicity on the topic comes a lot of opinions and reactions. Some companies are doing something about the problem but many are not.

Hiding ones head under the duvet, and thinking this won’t happen to you is crazy thinking. And even if it doesn’t happen to you, it will certainly affect the companies you serve, which means it will effect you, one way or another.

If the facts are true, then this is a glimpse of how things could be within the next 18 months.

Clients will start “freezing” their services to concentrate on keeping their company above water. You could also find your client base slowing dissolving into thin air as companies slowly go under.

Fulfillment agencies, will feel the heat the most. As finding the right person for the job will become even harder than it is now. It’s estimated that things will certainly grow worse in this area, before it improves.

Boomers leaving the workforce is nothing new, but to be able to survive the brain drain that will occur means companies will need to start putting a marketing plan into action now. The 3 strategies are to:

– Appreciate the deeper ramifications the crisis could bring you — Develop a solid consumer profile — Focus on creating client loyalty

Companies who want to enjoy a boon and not a bust in 2008 and beyond, have no option but to start preparing for the overwhelming loss in human resources now, by implementing razor-sharp marketing tactics.

Webcasting is especially preferred by most distance learning instructors because it helps them to save on the cost of materials or books. With webcasting, an instructor can decrease the number of times that he or she may have to travel to give lectures or presentation. It is basically an almost close face to face interaction with the instructor.

Asia and North America are two continents that are actively engaged in accredited distance learning programs. The use of the internet to enhance distance learning has made it possible for people even in the most underdeveloped nations of the world to engage in distance learning. Distance learning has made it easy for you to stay in a remote area and still get an education.

Distance learning or distance education is all about convenience. It is a practice or avenue that gives you the opportunity to school from home without actually going to the school. Many people practice it these days, especially those who are incapable due to a handicap or some other obligation that ties them down to their present location.

Many have stipulated that the success of Charles Wedemeyer’s Articulated Instructional Media from 1964-1968 is what impressed the British to begin the UK Open University. They imported their ideas from the communications technology that Wedemeyer introduced, and used them to create the college, which is now called United Kingdom Open University (UKOU). Naturally today, there are many other colleges with the same name, but the prefix ‘UK’ distinguishes this one.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison was the home of Charles Wedemeyer who founded the Articulated Instructional Media (AIM) back in 1964. It was funded by the Carnegie Foundation and at lasted for a good four years. Wedemeyer is today considered the father of modern distance education in America because her brought in a variety of communications technologies aimed at providing learning to off-campus populations, that were not there before.

Some schools have a minimum attendance requirement for all distance learning courses. They could insist that you come to school to register and matriculate in person, and many more insist that you are there to write your final exams personally. This way they can guarantee that they are indeed dealing with you, and that you are not cheating your way into their degrees.

Professors sometimes prepare their tests with special programs that restrict access to the Internet during the duration of the test. The problem with this solution is that there is no way to stop candidates from getting help outside of the Internet. They could bring books with them, or friends who can help answer questions.

Even institutions that are not educationally inclined and offering training programs online, the internet is a hub of educational information that you must sieve through carefully to get what you want. You can find almost anything you want in terms of education on the internet.
