Webcasting is especially preferred by most distance learning instructors because it helps them to save on the cost of materials or books. With webcasting, an instructor can decrease the number of times that he or she may have to travel to give lectures or presentation. It is basically an almost close face to face interaction with the instructor.

Asia and North America are two continents that are actively engaged in accredited distance learning programs. The use of the internet to enhance distance learning has made it possible for people even in the most underdeveloped nations of the world to engage in distance learning. Distance learning has made it easy for you to stay in a remote area and still get an education.

Distance learning or distance education is all about convenience. It is a practice or avenue that gives you the opportunity to school from home without actually going to the school. Many people practice it these days, especially those who are incapable due to a handicap or some other obligation that ties them down to their present location.

Many have stipulated that the success of Charles Wedemeyer’s Articulated Instructional Media from 1964-1968 is what impressed the British to begin the UK Open University. They imported their ideas from the communications technology that Wedemeyer introduced, and used them to create the college, which is now called United Kingdom Open University (UKOU). Naturally today, there are many other colleges with the same name, but the prefix ‘UK’ distinguishes this one.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison was the home of Charles Wedemeyer who founded the Articulated Instructional Media (AIM) back in 1964. It was funded by the Carnegie Foundation and at lasted for a good four years. Wedemeyer is today considered the father of modern distance education in America because her brought in a variety of communications technologies aimed at providing learning to off-campus populations, that were not there before.

Some schools have a minimum attendance requirement for all distance learning courses. They could insist that you come to school to register and matriculate in person, and many more insist that you are there to write your final exams personally. This way they can guarantee that they are indeed dealing with you, and that you are not cheating your way into their degrees.

Professors sometimes prepare their tests with special programs that restrict access to the Internet during the duration of the test. The problem with this solution is that there is no way to stop candidates from getting help outside of the Internet. They could bring books with them, or friends who can help answer questions.

Even institutions that are not educationally inclined and offering training programs online, the internet is a hub of educational information that you must sieve through carefully to get what you want. You can find almost anything you want in terms of education on the internet.

The huge change from staying home to entering a full time daycare can be a difficult one for many children. One of the major deciding factors can be the way the people at the care place behave, so it is extremely necessary to pick the right one. If the child care provider can be someone the child is already familiar with, that is a bonus. There are alternatives to this plan, however.

The best resource for worried parents is the discussion that can take place between themselves and other parents with children about any daycare in the area. This way is a great method for getting honest opinions about the pros and cons of particular places, as well as any particular concerns. but, if you hear negative accounts from different parents, this should serve as a huge warning.

Daycare workers should always be licensed, and your Department of Social Services can supply you a list of the ones who are in your area. Many people overlook another easy source that has valuable insight into the care taking of your child: your pediatrician, who will likely be able to come up with at least one recommendation. Most child care professionals advertise as well, both in your phone book and in your newspaper classified section. You should discard any caretaker who does not want to meet the child before agreeing to take them on. s aspect.

Always send the item from home that gives the child the biggest sense of comfort to the daycare if at all possible. Many children experience intense longing for home in the initial weeks, and this can be a way to offset that. You can either further calm or your child or cause him or her immediate and intense homesickness by providing a photo of your family for them to take with them.

Staying until the child gets lost in play or other activity is an additional way that parents can help ease the homesickness. If you know the specific time you will be picking the child back up, tell them. Knowing what time your workday will end means daycare will be easier, especially if your child knows exactly what time they will see you again as it gives them a sense of security.

A huge mistake that many parents make is not being positive enough when they depart. Sending a positive attitude to the child will help him or her believe that everything is going to be okay. It typically takes less than fifteen minutes of crying before the child calms down after their parents leave. Though walking out the door after a good-bye is always best, you should feel free to be as extravagant as you want when you return to pick them up.

Having your piano tuned is definitely the single most important part of the instrument’s maintenance, but unfortunately, very few piano owners follow a reasonable schedule when it comes to having their pianos tuned. Piano owners often think that they can go years between tunings and everything will be fine, or that they can try to replace a professional tuning by subscribing to some myth or old wives tale (like keeping jars of water in their piano), but this simply isn?t the case. To truly get the most out of your piano, it needs to be taken care of by a professional, and with regularity.

When does my piano need tuning?

It’s an often heard question among tuning technicians and piano manufacturers, most of whom suggest a minimum of two times a year. Depending on what type of climate you live in, however, once about every three months (or whenever the seasons change) would be an optimal schedule for tuning.

What do the seasons have to do with piano tuning?

With every seasonal change there are also usually drastic changes in both temperatures and levels of humidity. Your piano has been meticulously crafted out of wood, and wood is a material that is particularly susceptible to changes in humidity and moisture.

The changes in the level of moisture cause the wooden sound board to expand and shrink causing a big change in the tension of the strings, and causing the piano to go out of tune.

If it’s impossible for you to afford the once every three month tunings, there are a few things that you can do on your own to help keep your piano in the best shape possible between a less frequent maintenance schedule.

Preventative maintenance

Try to keep the temperature of your home at a relatively consistent level; despite what the temperature outside happens to be. Somewhere in the neighborhood of seventy degrees would be ideal.

Keep your piano away from direct sources of heat and cold. Avoid getting too close to radiators or central air and central heat registers.

Try to keep your piano away from direct sunlight. You may be surprised to find that, even if your home’s thermostat is set to seventy and its cooler outside, direct sunlight can make the piano very hot and cause an internal increase in humidity, wreaking havoc with the tuning.

There are also internal humidity control mechanisms that can be installed inside of your piano to monitor and regulate levels of humidity to make sure that all of the internal wooden components stay at the optimal level of humidity and keep your piano in as good a shape as possible. Though this can be a bit of an initial investment, it will prevent you from needing to have your piano tuned every three or so months, so it would likely save you some money in the long run.

Your piano can also become out of tune from an over abundance of play, this however is a best case scenario. The more often you sit down to play your piano, the more enjoyment it is probably bringing to you and those around you, so if you are playing so much that you need frequent tunings, the investment in your piano was a very wise one. If you are one of the few with this problem, you should consider yourself lucky.

If you follow along with the preventative maintenance suggestions, then the suggested twice annual tunings will probably be enough to keep your beloved piano in shape. If you can afford the internal humidity control, that’s even better for your piano?s health. The bottom line is - have your piano professionally tuned and maintained as often as you can to keep it?s environment as ideal as possible - if you can do that, your piano will give you years and years , if not a lifetime of beautiful music.

Figuring out the best possible brand of piano to purchase for a player that is just beginning can be a pretty difficult task depending on the particular situation. No one can come right out and tell you what piano to buy, it’s a decision that you must work your way to with a good bit of research.

There are a number of questions that you should ask yourself before jumping into a purchase that may be as major as buying a piano.

Has the beginner ever played before?

If the beginner that you are considering buying a piano for has never so much as played the instrument before and there is no one else residing in the house that will play, some serious thought should be put into the decision. In fact, if this is a situation that you are currently facing, it might be advisable, if possible, for the beginner to take a few lessons at a studio, rent a piano or purchase a less expensive, electronic keyboard to begin with to be sure that the beginner will hold some interest in the endeavor after the initial novelty begins to wear off.

The last thing you want to do is go out and spend more that twenty thousand dollars on a very large instrument that will take up quite a bit of space in your home only to find that there is no real deep interest there. A keyboard is a good, inexpensive and portable learning tool that will help you gage if there is a real interest there, and it will still be of use later down the road after a full size piano is procured.

What fits my situation?

If you are sure that purchasing a piano is the right decision, then you’ve got some serious studying to do.

In all reality, the best brand of piano for your beginner is going to be the one that fits your particular situation, in terms of price, size and sound quality.

There are plenty of excellent manufacturers of pianos available in every imaginable style and price range: Steinway, Wurlitzer, Kawai and Yamaha each have different musical quality and each manufacturer comes with a potentially very different price tag (Steinway produces pianos that are well in excess of six figures, where as Yamaha produces a quality instrument for under twenty thousand dollars.) Each brand will have a style, sound and price that will appeal to different types of players.

Pianos come in two different “body types”, uprights and grand pianos. Grand pianos normally produce a better sound quality, but uprights are often far less expensive and easier to fit into your home.

You’ll want to visit plenty of show rooms, do a lot of testing out different brands and talking to a good deal of sales people, teachers and technicians in order to narrow down the possibilities and begin to select the piano that may be right for you. You want a brand that has good merit, a solid reputation and that offers a good warranty.

Once you’ve got a manufacturer in mind that you feel comfortable with, it’s time to pick the most appropriate model for your situation - if at all possible, try not to buy the manufacturer’s least expensive model. It’s no secret that the cheapest model in terms of cost is probably the manufacturer’s model that is also of the lowest quality, a few hundred to one thousand dollars price difference could mean a world in the difference of quality of the instrument.

Don’t despair that you can’t afford the world’s greatest piano right from the beginning, many reputable manufacturers have a “trade up” option that will allow you to upgrade to a better model when you feel that you may have outgrown your current piano.

When it comes to buying a piano, as with making any other major purchase you want to be armed with information -ask a lot of questions and buy what you can afford. Pick a manufacturer that has a trade up option so you’ll always be able to have the best possible piano for your situation.

Teaching children can be fun, but it can also be challenging. Making learning fun for children and making it into a game is much more likely to help students learn than if you don’t, however. In addition, if you do this, students will look forward to their next lessons. This is also true if you want to improve visual memory in your students.

You want to make these strategies for improving visual memory in students fun so that they’ll look forward to learning and they will even compete with each other to increase their odds of grasping the information even more. Make it a game and they will look forward to it each and every time and pretty soon they’ll remember everything you ask them to.

Using Picture Games

A great strategy for improving visual memory in students is to play the picture game.

Show them a picture involving many aspects. A great one to work with will be one with a foreground and a background. Don’t make it too difficult but make it so that they must remember what they’re looking at. Let them view the picture for a few moments and then hide it. After the picture is hidden, begin asking them details about the picture. What color shirt was the woman wearing, for example. What color was the balloon? How many balloons was the little boy holding?

This game will make students excited to memorize the details in the pictures, which will improve their visual memory skills.

Using Rewards

One of the best ways to improve visual memory in students is to use rewards for those who get all the details right. These rewards don’t have to be much (a star or two in the front of the room by the student’s name is a good idea), but the idea is to get students to really strive to want to remember more and more, so that they enhance their memories and therefore improve their learning skills in general.

This strategy for improving visual memory in students is a fabulous way to get them to learn and it will make learning fun.

Remember that the most important thing for students who are in school is that they need to learn. If they don’t learn to remember, they won’t do well in life, because the information they learn won’t be retained. Utilizing strategies to improve visual memory in students will only do your students a favor, and it’s one that they’ll carry throughout their lives.

The most important step in order to obtain a new U.S. passport is submitting a properly filled out U.S. passport application. The government uses this to not only gather the required information about the applicant, but also to assess his “intentions” of traveling.

Depending on the form of request, there are various application forms available. The most common one, the aDS-11a form, is available when applying for a new U.S. passport. This form should be used only when you are applying for the first time. A certain criterion has to be met in order to fall into the “first-time applicant” category. “DS-82″a forms are used when one has to apply by mail, in cases of renewal of an existing passport. For an amendment or validation of the passport, application form “aDS-19″ should be presented

To amend or validate a passport, applicants use aDS-19.a Any changes or modifications to an existing passport are represented on this form. Supplemental forms can be used in addition to those previously listed above. For example, if a passport is lost or stolen, an applicant must submit a “DS-64″ in addition to the “DS-11″ Form. Another supplemental form is required when applying on behalf of a minor under the age of 14, which requires not only submission of the “DS-11,a but also “DS-3053.”

Processing time is about two weeks before an applicant receives their passport. In busier seasons, like summer and fall, this time period may be longer, so itas important for applicants to plan head. Applications require not only completion of the required form, but also two passport-sized photos of the traveler and the application fee.

Applications fees are $97 for U.S. citizens older than 16 years of age, and a reduced rate of $82 for applicants under the age of 16. These fees are nominal when you consider the freedom you gain by obtaining your passport to travel internationally. If, at any time, you travel outside of the U.S., you must have your passport as proof of U.S. citizenship. The Department of State issues and certifies that passport holders are citizens of the United States, and eligible to enter other nations.

You must apply for a new passport if you have never had one, your last passport has been expired for more than 12 years, or your current passport has been lost damaged or stolen. When applying for the first time, the applicant must apply in person. The right to travel internationally is a benefit and privilege to U.S. citizenship, but even within the last century, people have been denied that right due to political affiliations. During the Communist Scare, communist sympathists, such as Paul Robeson and W. E. B. Dubois, were denied U.S. passports. The U.S. Department of State maintains that our government has the right to screen people and revoke their passports in necessary situations. Even today, U.S. passports to Libya, Lebanon, and Iraq are still denied.

As security safeguards have become more stringent, the U.S. passport has started including biometric data as to the applicantas individualized traits like fingerprints, retinal scans, birthmarks and tattoos for enhanced security features. These advances have made travel safer for those seeking to travel all over the world.

A more technological revamp of the passport is also be considered called the ae-passport.a This modernized citizenship document will include a new design and more stringent security safeguards. The embedded computer chip will contain important identification data, and will bring better opportunities and significant positive changes to citizens of the U.S. when traveling internationally.

Whether you work for a dot.com start-up, a Fortune 500 company or somewhere in between, chances are you are busier than ever — busy driving projects, motivating teams, and minding the bottom line, all while managing your workload and striving to meet increasingly higher success benchmarks. So how do you stay on top of it all and do productive work on the things that count? A recent Pitney Bowes study reveals that a significant part of the answer lies in your ability to actively manage and harness the power of your messaging tools. That’s right, the phone calls, voicemails, e-mails, sticky notes, and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) that have become so ingrained in your everyday work life are actually pathways to innovation. By connecting you to your colleagues, data, projects and ideas, messaging tools are the means to the end, allowing you to improve your own personal output and benefit bottom line business objectives.

In our fourth annual workplace study, Messaging For Innovation: Building the Innovation Infrastructure Through Messaging Practices we found that the average worker manages 17 projects per week across seven work teams. Workers today are not only using messaging tools to organize their work but to enhance thinking and build the social networks that supply the raw material of innovation. While innovation is a human product that cannot be artificially created, individuals, managers and companies can create an environment in which innovation is more likely to occur. Messaging practices are the key.

As team leaders, managers are responsible for organizing the work as well as team communications. Throughout the project work cycle, teams add or remove members. It is the manager?s responsibility to bring new members up to speed on the team?s communications practices, which are different in each project phase. For example, in the brainstorming and start-up phase, teams usually meet face-to-face. When team members are completing individual project assignments, communications tend to shift to asynchronous methods such as voicemail, e-mail or fax. As the project nears completion, message pace increases and shifts back to real-time communication including face-to-face meetings or phone calls.

To help team members maintain communications protocols and project workflows, our study reveals common best practices to keep everyone in sync and on track:

Self Message. Talk to yourself. Self-messaging connects your personal, office, and mobile lives to reduce stress and overload. Send e-mails and voicemails to yourself, or write things down on the commute home. Use personal codes or shorthand for brevity.

Preview. Rehearse events and project steps to anticipate the unexpected. Try bringing home a printout of your schedule to plan how to tackle project deliverables or possible hurdles. When unexpected challenges arise, you will easily know what to do to keep the project on track.

Index Knowledge. Not only do we need to be in the right place at the right time, but also we need to have the right info with us and be at the right stage of a project. Store important information related to key projects when you run across it. Let the tools remember where this important information resides and bring it up for your use just in time for an important meeting or stage in project work.

Filter and prioritize. Workers in the U.S. send and receive an average of 204 messages from various sources every day, including voicemail, e-mail, interoffice mail, telephone, sticky notes, and postal mail. Create codes to denote the most important e-mail and sort by sender. Create a read only bin for informational communications not requiring immediate action. Hold appointments and check-ins only on certain days at predetermined times.

Rely on humans. Regular co-worker interaction facilitates the social networks that help individuals learn new tools and features, increasing productivity. Pitney Bowes? study revealed that informal training might be more productive and long lasting than formal training courses and manuals because it happens on an as-needed basis.

Establish a communications protocol. Disruptions in workflow occur when individual messaging practices are out of sync with the group. Avoid bottlenecks by establishing when and how different communications should happen. For example, share routine project updates via e-mail. Use the phone for urgent information exchanges or when and immediate response is needed.

In order to free up brainpower needed to tackle the more strategic and innovative work that is so highly valued in today’s competitive marketplace, managers should help their team use tools and people to segment, prioritize and schedule thinking as well as tasks.

The main feature of an accredited distance learning college is that you get to learn over the internet from an online university that has already been recognized for providing education of an acceptable level. In fact, such a form of education has of late begun to attract many people who prefer such education to going to a college and the main reason for such preference is that you get the same quality of education as you would if you were to attend a regular college or university.

Broad Horizons

One can now broaden one’s horizons and the doors to greater success have also opened mainly because an accredited distance learning college allows you to avail of recognizable degrees that are as good if not better than the traditional institutions of learning, thanks to distance learning. You also don’t need to find time from your other duties to pursue your education further. You can get to acquire the same skills as you would with a traditional college and there is also no dearth of subjects to choose from with an accredited distance learning college.

Thanks to accredited distance learning colleges there is no need for you to go and spend your evenings at an evening school and they also allow you to learn at a pace of your own choosing and there is also no need to compromise with family or work responsibilities. However, before you choose an accredited distance learning college you should try and choose one that is located in your own neighborhood, since it will give you a better chance of getting personalized attention, though there is no disadvantage to choosing a college that lies far away from your home.

Also, by enrolling at an accredited distance learning college you will give a boost to your chances of landing a better job and to also improve your current employment status since your resume will look better when you mention the name of an accredited distance learning college in it.

There are in fact a number of advantages that enrolling in an accredited distance learning college will give to you, since an accredited distance learning degree enhances your skill levels considerably–often, even more than is the case after attending regular colleges.

In addition, an accredited distance learning college degree also imparts necessary skills which can then be put to use at your workplace and a good example of such skills is learning new ways of communicating online such as with programs like Excel, PowerPoint and other similar ones.

In fact, online accredited distance learning degrees are also wonderful because you get an introduction to new industries and so you can pursue your career along a given path. You may even be asked to pursue research as well as learn how to find pertinent information for yourself and this in turn will lead to making new findings and coming into contact with more interesting ideas that will stand you in good stead further down the line.

Online distance learning does not totally nullify interaction with an instructor or with other students. The internet provides the instructor and the student with several tools that stimulate, almost perfectly, a face to face interaction. Webcasting is a relatively new mode of instructing online students that has broadened the interactive band of distance learning.

Just as you would embark on an investigative process to find the right schools to attend, you should also be aware that you need to search vigorously to find the right distance learning program. Distance learning is every inch as demanding and qualitative as on campus learning. Statistics indicate that students of distance learning programs perform more than students of on campus programs. Surprising, right?

Several distance learning courses still require that you come to the college at least twice in the duration of the course. Once when you’re starting out, to pay up, do the registration, and matriculate. The other time is to receive your certificate when the course is over. A few institutions also insist that you write your final exams on the college grounds, but that can be understood.

After the University of London awarded distance learning degrees in 1858, the University of South Africa followed suit in 1946. It was not too long after, in 1974, that Germany launched its own Open University. But that was not before that of the UK that was founded in 1969.

2006’s report by the Sloan Consortium stipulated that almost all of the largest colleges and universities in America were online offering distance learning courses. Well over 3 million students also took these courses during the previous year. These figures show an obvious rise in interest by the general public in distance education, a trend that most schools around the world are beginning to tap into.

The growth of the Internet has made it easier for students and lecturers to correspond. More than that, it has also presented a possible solution to the problem of integrity for writing tests and exams. Some software can attach themselves to a system such that you are not able to visit other sites while they run. You may bring in outside aid, but time constraints also limit their use.

Accreditation is incredibly important as far as distance learning programs and institutions are concerned. The New England associate of schools and colleges is an accreditation board for both on and off campus education. The north central association of schools and colleges and the middle states association of schools and colleges are equally accreditation bodies in their respective states. Make sure that a distance learning program is accredited before you commit to it.

Distance learning is not without its own challenges. As a full time mother, you will have to juggle the household chores with your distance learning program and that can be quite a feat. If you are an especially busy person, you will need to learn how to manage your time in order to succeed at distance learning.

From a elementary basis of noun identification and elementary verb conjugation, you have learned to read, understand complex sentences, and write in English.

A sentence led to a paragraph, which led to a page. Finally, you could read entire books, including fiction, in English.

Now that you are up to speed on your English, it is time for you to start to learn advanced English.

English is spoken throughout the world; advancing your knowledge of the language will benefit you because you will be able to communicate with those around you and abroad. You will also have access to scores of literary works that you may never have read or understood before.

English lessons for advanced students are quite a bit different from the average English lessons.

Reading material that is very technical, as well as being immersed in the English language (speaking English solely) is typical of advanced English lessons.

Advanced writing is also required. You can expect to write essays and papers on a variety of subjects.

You may also learn more about dialects and the differences in how English is spoken in different areas of the world. Even though English is a global language, it is not spoken the same way everywhere.

Advanced English lessons allow you to learn about these differences and to appreciate how others use the language.

In terms of assignments, where with basic english lessons you would learn sentence structure and proper phrasing, expect now to be reading long and complicated books in both fiction and non-fiction genres and writing complicated reports with high language expectations on them.

It is very important that you are exposed to complex language when you are taking advanced English lessons. This is why many instructors use such diverse works as scientific writings and Shakespearean plays and sonnets.

Keeping up to date on websites and reading authors like Shakespeare and Dickens is a very good way for you to self-study advanced English without having to pay money to actually take a class.

There is nothing like a well planned out course structure along with efficient instruction and feedback however to help you get you through advanced english topics in a timely manner.

One of the most important things to decide is what you will do for your incentives for your new fundraiser. It is not only the product line but the incentive you choose which can make or break your fundraising campaign. Using the services of a professional fundraising company is one of the best ways to ensure that things will go smoothly. They do this kind of thing professionally and will guide you in your decisions.

Following are 7 helpful tips to guide you when deciding which products, prizes and fundraising company to use in your unique fundraiser planning.

1.) Quality… Always offer high quality products. Value is of utmost importance to your customers and community. Your new fundraiser will go much better if your customers feel that they are getting a good value.

2.) Support Materials… Be sure to go over the support materials that fundraising companies offer. Ask them about the service you will receive to organize your new fundraiser. Also take a look at the sales material that will be handed out to your students. An eye catching sales catalog will improve your sales as will an appealing incentive program.

3.) Hidden Costs… Hidden costs can sometimes be overwhelming. Most fundraising companies do not charge for catalogs, brochures or shipping. But you need to ask about it before you commit to a new fundraiser because there are a few companies that do charge for things like that. Any costs that you may have are going to come out of the final profit that you end up with.

One consideration is that not all cost to your group are bad cost. For instance if you are spending money on a particular prize or two in order to better motivate your sellers, those cost will more than make up for themselves in the form of extra profit for your group.

4.) Free Sample Pack… Does your fundraising consultant firm offer a free sample pack? If so use this to evaluate the quality of your fundraising product line before placing an order.

5.) Policy… Inquire up front as to the terms of your fundraising company. What is their policy with regard to replacement of damaged items. Inquire about the fundraising company’s return policy too.

6.) Special Delivery… Will your product require special delivery considerations such as refrigeration? Ruined merchandise is always a big concern when dealing with foods, especially frozen items.

One not so well known fact about frozen cookie dough however, is that it does not require refrigeration during the delivery. Simply choose your delivery area with a few key points in mind. Place the cookie dough in an area that is away from direct sunlight and away from any heat source. Brands of cookie dough like Chippery and Otis Spunkmeyer can be delivered without the need for refrigeration because sugar is a preservative.

7.) References… What is the reputation of your fundraising company? Ask for a list of past customers and contact them regarding the performance of your fundraising company. Another thing you might ask about is what were the most popular items sold.

Finding the right fundraising company is a major factor in the success of your next new fundraiser. If you keep these seven suggestions in mind as you look for a supplier for your next new fundraising company will help you find the right fundraising company for your school or group.

Have you ever wondered at the general unfairness of the world? Why it is that some have so much while others have so little? Why it is that a large portion of the world’s wealth is controlled by so small a percentage of the population, and those who are most in need are so rarely among those numbers?

There are lots of children all over the country who are effected by developmental disorders which has to great extend decreased their hope to live a normal life. The main reason is that they are not able to avail the opportunities as the families do not have enough funds which are needed for the care and support the children should get.

It is becoming more and more difficult for these children to become self reliant and independent with little or no opportunities. Things will not change even now if there aren’t enough funds available. It is very difficult to understand the predicament of these people for many of us. Their families are having a difficult life with jobs which pay very low wages and shortage of health insurance benefits. They are struggling every day to meet their essential requirements and can’t do much except to feel bad. They are too tired at the end of the day with the life they are facing.

March of Dimes and the Special Olympics are some of the associations who have become aware of the plight of these families and understand the requirements of these families. They are doing what they can to help these children by donating their time as well as money for the cause. There are a number of professional sporting organizations including professional football, basketball, baseball and hockey players who are a part of this endeavor. They are auctioning memorabilia like caps, game balls, jerseys etc for raising funds, as well as spend time to encourage these children.

One does not have to be a professional player and donate in thousands for the benefit of these underprivileged children. We can do a great job just by continuing the excellent practice started by them. You can donate some of the surplus NFL memorabilia you have to organizations like Goodwill and also spend some of your time with these children. Goodwill will help you give families things which were beyond their reach; an occasion, a possibility and a choice to make a brilliant future.

As globalization takes hold of our collective society, the English language is quickly becoming the universal language for many reasons. For one, business across borders as well as over the internet, whether it is conducted by small companies or multi-national corporations is largely conducted in English. Global politics and diplomacy are largely conducted in English as well. In fact, English is the world’s second largest native language, the official language in 70 countries, and English-speaking nations are responsible for about 40 percent of the world’s total Gross National Product. Part of this can be attributed to the USA’s status as a major world power in economic, political and military aspects and by the huge influence of American movies.

The Internet

The internet was developed chiefly in America, and whether that is an influential factor or not, the majority of Web sites and Web pages are in English. People from all over the world access these English-language sites on a daily basis. This indicates that there are a many people all over the world who can at least read minimal amounts of English - enough to browse the Web.

Popular Culture

English can be at least understood on at least some level almost everywhere in the world among scholars and educated people. The English language is also widely recognized as the world’s media language, and the chief language of cinema, TV, pop music and as aforementioned, the computer world. All over the planet, even people who don’t necessarily speak the language know many English words, their pronunciation and meaning.

Countries Where English is Taught in School

Because of the English language’s far-reaching popularity and use all over the world, many non-English speaking countries are now introducing English lessons in their public and/or private school systems. Some of the countries that include the English language in their school curriculum do so for one or more of the reasons mentioned above. Other countries are simply forward-thinking in that they can see a degree of universality to the language that will offer its students greater opportunity. Other countries have their own, unrelated reasons for teaching English in their schools. No matter what the motivation, below is a list of countries that currently offer English as a second language in their schools:

- Asia - People’s Republic of China - Japan - South Korea - Taiwan - Singapore (English is taught as a first language here) - India - Nepal - Middle East and North Africa - United Arab Emirates - Kuwait - Oman - Egypt (English is mandatory from the 4th grade on) - European Union - Austria - Belgium - Bulgaria - Cyprus - Czech republic - Denmark - Estonia - Finland - France - Germany - Greece - Hungary - Ireland - Italy - Latvia - Lithuania - Luxembourg - Malta - The Netherlands - Poland - Portugal - Romania - Slovakia - Slovenia - Spain - Sweden - United Kingdom - Latin America - Argentina - Chile - Columbia - Costa Rica - Guatemala - Honduras - Mexico - Panama - Venzuela

Conclusion

As you can see, English is increasingly being taught to elementary, middle school and high school students all over the world. In many of the schools in the countries listed above English is either mandatory, or offered as a foreign language study much like Spanish and French are taught in the U.S. In other countries, learning English is offered as an option to those elite members of society who are in the position to pay for private school or tutoring.

All you have to do is pay attention to literature, the media, movies, pop culture and the internet to notice that the English language is quickly becoming something of a universal language. Business transactions across borders and over the internet are largely conducted in English. International relations and policy are also commonly carried out in the English language. For these reasons and many others, it is highly beneficial to have at least a somewhat operating knowledge of English. In fact, English is widely taught as a second language in countries all over the world, including but not limited to:

- Asia - Middle East - Europe - Latin America

Is it Too Late?

Students all over the world may be studying English as a second language - whether it is a requirement or not, but what about adults? It is common knowledge that it is much easier to learn a language when one is very young and still developing early language skills. In fact, the very best time to pick up any language is actually before five years of age. Does this mean that it is virtually impossible for anyone over the age of 5 (or 10 for that matter) to learn a new language such as English? The answer is very simple - no. Learning English may be more difficult and unnatural for an adult to learn, but it is definitely not too late. It may require more work, studying and practicing for an adult to truly learn English, but it is by no means impossible.

Factors in Learning

There are many different factors that will influence the level of ease or difficulty each individual will experience when learning English as an adult. Some of these include age, disposition, behavioral attitudes, native language, frequency of practice, etc. Generally speaking, the greater the amount of time that is spent on studying English lessons and practicing English, the quicker and more thoroughly the language will be learned. This is true of any foreign language that is studied - not only by adults, but also by youth and children.

Adults Learning English in the U.S.

There are a great number of immigrants, visitors and students in the United States who wish to learn to speak, read and write English. Below are some things that are known about the adult English language student population.

- Native Tongue

The majority of individuals who speak a language other than English at home speak Spanish (60%). The second most prevalent language is Chinese. The remaining eight of the top 10 languages spoken are (in descending order) French, German, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Italian, Korean, and Polish (U.S. Census Bureau, 2003).

- Level of Education

Adult English learners have a wide variety of educational backgrounds, ranging from no education at all to advanced degrees.

- Ability to Speak English

The English speaking ability of adults learning English will typically range from low beginning, with means the individual has limited opportunities to use English outside of class, to high advanced (near native proficiency). Most English language learners enrolled in adult education programs for English are in beginning literacy or beginning ESL classes.

Conclusion

With so many adult students of the English language (in the United States and all over the world) it is easy to see that learning English as an adult is definitely possible. It is very encouraging to see that no matter what age or station in life one is in, it is never too late to learn even a complicated language such as English.
