If you’re a handyman (or woman) then you are surely in need of a garage workbench. A workbench is essential for completing projects with accuracy and without damaging your desk or dining room table. It’s also a perfect place for storing your tools and materials. The type of bench depends on your budget and needs. Here are a few suggestions.

First decide what size of bench you’ll need and what you’ll need it for. Lay out all your tools and measure your workspace. Take into consideration what you may be using it for in the future.

There are a wide variety of pre-made workbenches that come in different materials and sizes. For a simple, large surface type of bench then consider a industrial workbench. Most of these models are simply a piece of hardwood or metal for the top and metal legs and a lower shelf. This type of bench allows for plenty of storage space underneath for large tools and equipment. There are also more elaborate pre-made models with cabinets, drawers, and a peg-board wall for storage of small tools and equipment. You can hang your tools from the peg-board so they are within easy sight and reach. Some also have a power strip on the table top so you can easy connect your equipment to a power supply.

Most prefabricated workbenches come in standard sizes to accommodate most spaces. Some allow for modifications and additions of shelving and drawers so you can customize them. The height of benches is also standard and will work for most heights. If your garage floor is not level then you may need to make special alterations to the legs.

If your workspace is limited or an odd shape then you’ll need to build your own workbench. Even if this is not the case you may want to build one yourself since it makes a good do-it-yourself project and aesthetics are not as important as other projects. You can buy a kit that comes with everything you need and with pieces that are precut. The level of customization is still limited so you might need to make one from scratch.

Building your own workbench from scratch is more difficult but it will give you good practice and the end product will be exactly what you need. There are free plans available on the internet or you can find a larger selection for sale at any home improvement store. Use a solid wood for the top surface and make sure it is thick so it is durable and can be sanded every few years. Make sure you make your cuts even and don’t take shortcuts.

Though your finished bench doesn’t need to be aesthetically pleasing, you should apply several coats of polyurethane to the top to protect it and make for easier cleanups.

In developed, western nations including Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, with the generation of ever greater wealth has come an ever greater awareness among the people, businesses, and governments that we need to take steps to harmonise human goals with the natural environment. This is not just to be done in the rural setting but also in the urban setting.

Obviously, biodiversity and harmonized materials are important things in rural areas, but this is no less true of cities. In an urban area, links have to be made between public places, private business, the very infrastructure of the urban environment and services provided by government bodies. All of this must be worked on to catch up with the changes in the natural world. The quality of life of a nation’s citizens is largely dependent on the environment around them.

Corporations that harm the environment in the process of making a profit, are a force the green movement is strongly opposed to. However business opportunities do exist for those who are passionate about the environment as more organic product manufacturers are turning to multi-level marketing to promote their products.

With more and more investors paying attention to how green a given company is, going green is now big business. Even the busy housewife or working mother can prosper “the natural way” from going green.

Using (and more to the point, selling) organic products is a great thing for the environment and your back pocket at the same time.

Organic products are naturally biodegradable if they get thrown out. When used, organic products naturally harmonise with and nourish the human body, the habitat of people, animals, and plants, and the atmosphere. Organic products do not pollute rivers and streams, they don’t drive animals out of their natural niche environments, they are not part of the “chemical haze” that slowly poisons us and takes us to early graves by putting unnatural synthetic substances on our skin and into our bodies, and they are made from resources that are readily renewable. Organic products make it a prosperous and economically sound practice to sustain the natural environment and allow it to flourish, as opposed to running rough shod over it.

Organic products are found in many shops these days; however, not all of them are as organic as they may have you believe. There are organizations which certify organic products, you should look for the seals of these organizations, since many manufacturers will count on the fact that a lot of consumers are still confused by the difference between “natural” and “organic”. You can find organic certified products for skin care, hair, cosmetics, personal care and nutritional supplements.

Organic products have the distinct advantage of containing only clean and efficacious ingredients extracted from plants. They boast larger amounts of cancer-combating antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients to nourish your entire body. No synthetic ingredients of any kind are present, just healthy, all natural ones.

If you are passionate about your health and organic products, you can take advantage of an ethical and flexible home business opportunity based on these leading organic product lines. You can become an independent representative and grow a distribution network for these certified organic products by making use of flexible options to help you connect with the increasing numbers of people who are looking for healthy and organic alternatives to chemical-saturated, synthetic counterparts.

There is a lot of flexibility to be had here - you can work when it fits your schedule, whether part time or full time. All you need is communication skills and the willingness to help the Earth and to help others do the same.

While you’re checking off “fireplace in room” and “spa services” in your Web search for that perfect bed and breakfast, take time to remember the most important amenities of all: our natural resources. Many inns are energy efficient and designed to fit the surrounding landscape. Their proximity to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries remind us that traveling is neither decadent nor a luxury - it’s a reality check. A person who has spotted a whale breaching the surface of the ocean or looked at a bird’s nest from the foot of an ancient Redwood tree is more likely to be mindful of other habitats that go unseen from an office window.

Some of us love nature, but maybe aren’t so keen on camping out. Leave your sleeping bag at home because at Huckleberry Tent and Breakfast, you could hardly stay father away from the grid, yet still enjoy the comfort of a bed and breakfast. Surrounded by 42 acres in Sandpoint, Idaho, guests enjoy total peace and serenity. The innkeepers offer three luxurious tents with wooden floors and real, quilt-topped beds. A full, farm-fresh breakfast is served each morning. Watersports and fishing are nearby or you can just enjoy the nature trails on the property.

The Arbor House, An Environmental Inn leaves no doubt that it is a respite for the eco-friendly. Located in Madison, Wisconsin, the bed and breakfast was built with nature in mind. The architects were careful not to disturb the root system of the ground’s many trees when they built an annex onto the historic portion of this 19th-century inn. The builders used non-toxic lumber that was cut from sustainable forests. The windows were made of recycled glass and the walls were specially insulated to keep out heat or cold without using extra energy. The roof of the Wisconsin bed and breakfast is lined with solar panels. Linens are organic and washed with biodegradable products.

Organic, organic, organic. That is the theme at Mast Farm Inn in Banner Elk, North Carolina. The idyllic grounds serve as location for organic vegetable and flower gardens. Without using pesticides or chemical fertilizers, the innkeepers produce a bounty of vegetables, many of which fill the plates at the historic inn’s award-winning restaurant.

Taking non-toxic to personal level, the Natural Bed & Breakfast Retreat in Tucson, Arizona keeps it simple for guests with allergies by banning smoking, pets, cologne and perfume. Natural sounds filter through indoor speakers while air purifiers clear out the allergens. Feng Shui principles guide the layout of the dcor and breakfasts are organic and made from whole grains.

Guests enjoy English country charm and green sensibilities at Melitta Station Inn & Spa in Santa Rose, California. This historic inn served as a 19th-century stagecoach stop and has been restored and decorated with antiques. Since 2006, it has run on solar power using a 6-kilowat solar array. The bed and breakfast also uses daylight pipes to reduce the amount of artificial lighting needed. Nearby hiking, biking and swimming will keep guests close to nature, and you can even take a tour of some of the Sonoma Valley’s organic wineries.

Enjoying a green vacation was never easier than at these eco-friendly inns. Not only will your bed and breakfast stay be environmentally friendly, you can renew your appreciation for nature and be inspired to continue preserving our precious resources.

The only constant in life is change. Everything needs change at times, even your home sweet home. Is it time to make some changes in your living space? Here are some points to consider when devising what your home needs.

Some owners need to make changes to their homes to make it more comfortable. Is your place hot or cold enough? Is there enough storage space? Do you live in an older home and things are just due to be fixed or replaced? Or are you planning to sell your home and want renovations to improve the home’s value?

Others need to change in order to accommodate more or fewer residents. Are there children coming into your life? Or are they leaving the nest? Are elderly or disabled relatives coming to stay with you? Do you have guests now and then and need space for them?

Fortunately, most of these circumstances can be met by simply renovating your existing home rather than selling it. It’s amazing what a few changes can do to give your place a whole new look. Try improving the lighting or removing a wall to make a larger gathering area. Improving the electrical or plumbing systems can make all the difference in your family’s comfort. Even a fresh coat of paint can give a room new life and even make a room feel larger or smaller.

Two common areas for renovation are the kitchen and the bathroom. Cabinets may need to be replaced. The plumbing may need to be fixed or there may not be enough storage. It may be time to replace the refrigerator or the tub. Countertops may be scratched and warped. Consider granite countertops if yours are in need of replacement. If you have the space, would adding another bathroom or installing a second oven help your family’s circumstances? Larger families or those with frequent guests love the convenience of a second set of appliances.

Another popular project is to install a new deck or patio. With today’s focus on the environment, people crave an extra outdoor “room”. The deck or patio can take care of your space needs, especially if you make it a three-season enclosed structure. You’ll be surprised at how often it is used.

When considering home improvement ideas, remember you don’t have to do them all at once. Plan and complete one task first before going on to the next. The other projects will still be there when you’re done.

It’s fun to dream about ways to improve your home. That’s why home improvement magazines and television shows are so popular. Check out a few of them and find some ideas for yourself. Then carefully plan out whether it is doable, both in terms of time and money. If you do, why not take the plunge? Not only will you solve your housing problem but you’ll also improve the value of your home.

An educational trip for the school, for kids of your own or of the neighborhood schould be both enjoyable and a good learning experience. Trip to the museum or some factory are very common, but that’s not the end of it, you must also think about making your kid ready even before sending him to the playfield.

These are some questions that may come to your mind. We offer our suggestions for your reading. However, you may also come up with your own ideas and thoughts.

The trip is going to be planned by whom?

Someone or a group of people must take the responsibility if the trip is not organised by the school but by you or your neighbors and take out some time to organise it taking into account the lodgings, destination, transport, food, and the age of the childern taking part in it. The planning must be properly done to avoid having to handle unnecessary hassles later on.

What to Bring

In a trip, a list of what things to pack is most important. While your child under takes a educational trip the following must be in their bag whether in Alaska, Spain or anywhere in the world:

- Snacks. Drinks and walk foods that can be taken even while walking must be in ample amount

- First aid kit. Small accidents like scratches should be taken care of. Children with loose motion problem or parents with headaches can be taken care of by a medicine pack.

- Extra clothes. The sudden spills on clothes of both active childern and some of their parents can be taken care of by an extra set of clothes.

- Walkie talkie. If your child can use a walkie talkie or cellular that would be very handy if in case he / she got lost.

- Name tag. His shirt or his bag containing your contact number (without name) must have a name tag attached to it so that contacting you becomes easy.

- One of his favorite toys. A childs favorite toy can make him feel better if he starts feeling uneasy during travelling

- Wipes and tissue. Whenever you need it for cleaning up something.

When you get there

Line must be followed and two or three must be made as travel buddies so that one can keep an eye on the other; it also stops falling back. This way kids who are a bit introvert get the opportunity of making friends.

On the trip home

Encourage sleeping; milk comes handy as long walks makes children feel cranky as they are exhausted so while going back they can sleep after a drink of milk.

Do you desire to live in a way that protects our childrens future? Do you choose to live in the greenest world possible with a conscience, respect and appreciation for the environment?

Most Americans have a strong sense of social and environmental responsibility. We attempt to make environmentally wise choices in all aspects of our daily living, yet we ignore one of the major contributors to the plight of the planet.

Worldwide in excess of one billion people do not have a pure source of clean drinking water, this is in excess of 1/6 of the world citizens, yet we, as Americans, waste billions of dollars yearly for the convenience of drinking from a plastic bottle instead of a water tap.

1.5 million tons of plastic are used to manufacture bottled water every year. It also takes in excess of 25 times the amount of water to make each plastic bottle than the bottle contains. 300 million gallons of bottled water are imported to the United States yearly.

Often, in America bottled water is simply an indulgence. Despite our rationalizations, it is not a harmless indulgence. Bottled water is an environmental disaster. Thirty years ago bottled water hardly survived as a business in the United States. We Americans now spend more on “designer” bottled water than we spend on iPods or movie tickets - $15 billion in 2007. The expected United States expenditure for bottled water will be $16 billion a year before the end of the decade.

As a country we consume in excess of 30 billion single-serving bottles of water per year. Bottled water is the fastest growing beverage industry in the world, worth up to $22 billion a year. Less than 15 per cent of plastic water bottles are recycled, the remainder end up in the garabage system and cost America’s cities in excess of 70 million per year to handle clean up and landfill expenditures. America yearly produces in excess of 800,000 tons of plastic bottle pollution that substantially magnifies global warming.

in 2007, Americans trashed more than 38 billion plastic water bottles, approximately $1 billion worth of plastic that could have been recycled. That’s an unforgivable waste, especially considering 1.5 million barrels of oil - enough to power 100,000 cars for a year - were consumed to manufacture these bottles. And that’s not even including the oil and gas required for shipping and delivering this huge volume of liquid.

If you are spending money on bottled water, you are basically purchasing plastic, which is manufactured from petroleum. When we purchase a bottle of water, what we’re often purchasing is the bottle its self. One of the essential problems with bottled water production is the reliance on fossil fuels. From packaging to transportation, bottled water relies on oil, using 17 million barrels of oil and producing massive amounts of carbon dioxide every year.

In the United States alone, we are hauling 1 billion liters of water around a week in trains, trucks, railcars and ships. That adds up to a weekly giant convoy equivalent to 37,800 18-wheelers. Water weighs over 8 pounds a gallon. Water is so very heavy you cannot fill an 18 wheeler with bottled water, you have to allow empty space.

There is an simple earth friendly solution. Tap water is considerably less expensive. As an investigative reporter for the NY Times points out, almost all municipal water in America is so good that nobody needs to import a single bottle from Italy or France or the Fiji Islands.

Clean and pure drinking water should be public and inexpensive. The more the wealthy opt out of drinking tap water, the less political support and funds there will be for investing in developing, maintaining and repairing America’s public water supply. That would be a dreadful loss.

Access to inexpensive, pure water is basic to a nation’s health. In Fiji, a state-of-the-art factory spins out more than a million bottles a day of the hippest bottled water on the U.S. market, while more than half the people in Fiji do not have a pure or dependable source of drinking water. This means it is easier for the average American in Los Angeles or New York to quench their thirst with refreshing Fiji water than it is for the majority of people in Fiji.

If you decide to get your recommended eight to ten glasses a day from bottled water, you could spend up to $1,500 or more every year. The same amount of tap water would cost pennies a day. Recent studies show that many brands of bottled water fail to meet industry guidelines and the cost of even inferior quality bottled water can grow quite high.

Much of bottled water is only plain tap water. Many bottled water firms repackage tap water into plastic bottles, then sell them back to the consumer at prices higher than gasoline and increasing just as rapidly. Aquafina, as an example, has finally been pressured into amending its labels to advise consumers that Aquafina water comes from tap water. Why not just drink tap water? More than a quarter of bottled water is just processed tap water.

Plastic containers leach toxic chemicals. Have you considered why your plastic bottle of water has a label warning telling you not to reuse it? The longer you have that bottle, the more likely it is to leach toxic chemicals into your water.

There is a to solve the dilemma. If you are unsure of your local water supply or wish to easily filter tap water when on the go, carbon-filtered tap water is safer and costs much less than bottled water. As reported by the Environmental Working Group, carbon filtration of tap water will dramatically lower levels of toxic by products; it is also 10 to 20 times less expensive than bottled water, and does not produce the waste and pollution associated with the packaging and transport of bottled water.

A portable water filter is a perfect solution for water filtration on the go. A portable water filter allows anyone to filter their own water, no matter where they travel; across town or around the world. A portable water filter allows you to free yourself from any unpleasant taste, additives or contaminates while protecting the environment and your pocketbook. Get the whole family involved. A five member family could save well over $7,500.00 a year.

Stop being unwitting victims of manipulative advertising. When a entire industry is built up by overwhelming us with a product we do not need, when an entire industry is based on packaging and presentation, not the product, it is worth asking how that happened and what the future impact is upon our precious planet.

Around the globe many people are electing to avoid the risk of chemical contamination of their bodies, families and homes. Fortunately, solutions for addressing change exist and are within easy access. Choosing earth friendly alternatives allows us to live a natural, green lifestyle.

The benefits of sleeping on organic bedding, selecting organic foods and wearing organic clothing are numerous.

Organic Foods

The Organic Food Association tells us: It is common sense; organic food is good food. Good to eat, good for the environment, good for the small-scale farmers and farm workers who produce it.

Organic farming is all about health and wellness. To assure optimum health and resistance against illnesss, the natural balance in our own bodies and in the environment must be maintained. The use of artificial chemical pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, fertilizers, genetic engineering and drugs interfere with this delicate balance; with unknown and often harmful consequences! Organic farming methods affect much more than what can be seen or tasted.

Over the last fifty years, commercial farmers have, of necessity, continued to increase the amount of these hazardous applications. Cereal crops are sprayed as many as 8 times during the growing season. Many fruit and vegetable harvests have been sprayed 10 or 15 times. After harvesting the spraying process is repeated to retard grow of bacteria during storage and transport. Over spraying of fruit and vegetable crops destroys natural bacteria, leaving the plants increasingly vulnerable to attack from unwelcome pests or disease. Insecticides and fungicides are then required to fight off infestation and decay. However, these pests rather quickly become immune to the chemicals applied and their population increases rapidly. More powerful and increasingly toxic chemicals are then applied.

Organic certification is the consumers assurance that products have adhered to stringent standards and have been grown and/or handled according to rigid regulations without contamination from carcinogenic pesticides, fertilizers, human waste or sewage sludge. Certification attests that the product was processed without ionizing radiation or artificial color or food additives. Organic or chemically manipulated, which would you rather put in your body? We are what we eat. When our diet is built upon natural organic choices we are providing our bodies optimum food, produced in optimum conditions. Organically raised vegetables and fruit provide more minerals and nutrients than commercially grown produce and are more intensely endowed with color, scent and flavor; they certainly taste better!

Organic meats are produced from animals that have been treated humanely and reared on certified organic pastures and feeds. Certified organic meat guarantees that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have not been used at any stage of growth production.

Organics And The Environment

The USDA estimates that within the next ten years over half of all Americas farm products will come from only 1% of the farms. The EPA also states that commercial agriculture is accountable for 70% of the pollution in our country’s rivers and streams. Small scale organic farmers finance innovative and far reaching research designed to reduce agricultures impact on the environment. They maintain bio diversity by planting heirloom varieties of plants and gleaning seeds for future crops. The loss of a substanial variety of species is one of the worlds most pressing environmental concerns. The good news is that many organic farmers and gardeners have been harvesting, preserving seeds and growing unusual and unique varieties for decades.

Organic farming methods naturally nourish the soil with compost and organic manure. Well balanced soils product nourishing, strong plants, healthy for both people and animals. Organic agriculture can be a lifeline for small farms. It offers an alternative market where sellers can achieve fair and equatable prices for their crops. Organic farming may be one of the last ways to assure the survival of both our ecosystems and our rural farming communities .

Conventional farming endangers workers and their families. Scientific inquires confirm chemical toxicity related medical problems which include cancer, birth defects, memory loss, paralysis and death. Unsecured storage, improper application methods and unregulated handling and transportation procedures are not at all uncommon and often lead to tragic mishaps. As pests develop resistance, farmers desperate to maintain or improve crop yields often resort to more and more applications of expensive and stronger chemical products. Faced with rising costs, depleted fields and contaminated ground water, more and more small farmers have been forced to abandon their livelihood.

Organic farming, is not only safer and healthier for farmers, but also promotes equitable compensation in the supply chain. Organic farming provides an economically viable and socially acceptable alternative to large scale farming and the accompanying dependence on government crop subsidies. Support of the small organic farmer supports Americas economy.

Organic production methods dramatically reduce health risks. Many EPA approved pesticides were registered and approved prior to extensive research linking these toxic chemicals to cancer and other significant medical problems. Crop dusting has often resulted in drifts of toxic pesticides and herbicides from fields to residential areas.

Organic agriculture is one of the best ways to prevent more of these chemicals from contaminating the ecosystem. An increasing body of research indicates that chemical contaminants are considerably more prevalent in the foods we eat, in our bodies and in the environment than we previously believed.

By choosing organic products we lessen this toxic burden. Organic farmers rotate crops and plant soil enriching cover crops to control weeds, nutrient leaching and erosion. Soil is the foundation of the food chain. The point of organic farming is to use methods that build and maintain healthy and sustainable soils.

Organic Skin Care And Personal Products

Skin care, personal care and cosmetics are the least regulated products under the US Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Be it is soap, moisturizers or deodorants, skin care products are an essential part of our daily lives. Do we understand what these choices actually contain and what we are forcing our skin to absorb?

Have you ever suffered from itchy, stinging or burning skin? Chances are that your skin absorbed irritants and chemicals from your skin care products. The skin absorbs ingredients in all the products that come in contact with our skin. Consider nicotine or HRT patches. They rely completely on skin absorption.

As mothers we are always concerned for the well being of our children. We tenderly comfort and bathe them with a wide range of products. These include soaps, shampoos, creams and lotions, many of which are used on babys sensitive skin several times a day. The skin is the largest organ of the body and the delicate skin of an infant can be up to 100 times more receptive to toxic chemicals and irritating ingredients that the skin of an adult.

Without been aware, parents put their babies at risk daily. Did you know that applying baby powder to your babys skin may pose a cancer risk later in life? The principle ingredient in many baby powders is talc, which several studies have confirmed as a known carcinogenic.

Lanolin is a featured ingredient in many skin care products. When processed from organically raised sheep, lanolin is a wonderful healing balm. The danger lies in non organic lanolin that has been acquired from sheep that were dipped or sprayed for lice with chemical pesticides that are contaminated with carcinogenic ingredients such as DDT, dieldrin or lindane. The residue of these toxic chemicals remains in the processed lanolin and can cause severe reactions and long lasting health concerns.

Chemical free and all natural, organic products offer eco-friendly options that eliminate these dangers. You can avoid these and similar safely risks by using only certified organic products formulated from natural sources such as plants, fruits, vegetables and flowers. These products to do not contain synthetic chemicals such as lauryl sulphate, phthales, parabens, artificial fragrances or dyes.

Organic Textiles

By the end of the year, the sale of organic textiles worldwide is expected to exceed $3 billion. Worldwide demand for organic textiles is increasing in response to consumer demand. Organic production takes requires time, demands more skills and knowledge, and at least for the present, costs somewhat more. It is worth it as organic materials do not contain any hidden costs to the environment.

Choose Eco Wise Products! Choose Organic!

Consumption and use of green technologies is all about meeting the challenges and choices we face if we are to enjoy a sustainable quality of life within the limited resources of our world. Surveys reflect that about a fourth of the US adult population has a profound sense of environmental enlightenment and social responsibility. Half of us will buy organic and make earth friendly choices in many aspects of our daily living. Consumer education and awareness is a powerful force for change.

Even if you don?t like work you will probably end up spending a minimum of a third of your life in your office. This means that you spend a lot of time in your office and so it should look at least half decent! Offices should match the personality of the person. It?s actually fairly easy to do this by yourself so you don?t require and professional assistance. If however you do need professional help then there are some great ones to choose from.

Rules

Before you start deciding what to do with your office you should spend some time thinking about the rules. If you work for yourself then these will be something that you can make up by yourself, but if you work for someone else then you will need to consult with your employer.

Some employers may be unwilling to let you do certain things like painting the walls, they may only let you place a photo or two on your desk. Some employers will however let you hang paintings, move furniture and paint the walls. You need to understand the rules as breaking them could damage your working relationship, it?s not worthwhile breaking the rules for such a small thing.

Layout

After you?ve thought about the rules you are then free to create a layout for your office design. You need to spend quite a long time deciding on the layout as this can change the look and feel of the office, and also make the space more or less productive.

Careful consideration should be taken when deciding where to put the computer screen, as glare could be an issue. You might also want to consider putting the desk up against a wall to hide cables. When locating any electrical appliances make sure that the cables will not be trailing across the floor so that tripping hazards can be minimized.

Ideally you should design the workspace so that there is a flat desk surface and a computer area available so that you can not only work on the computer but you also have space to sign paperwork and write notes. The furniture also needs to be placed so that it?s easy to talk to people that come into your office without having to strain and crook your neck. To make this easier make sure you keep all filing cabinets well out of the way of where people will sit.

Time to Decorate

After all of that it?s then time to actually start decorating your office. You can make the space more interesting by adding some nice curtains and curtain rods in decorative colors. You might also consider adding a vase of flowers to make the space look fresh.

It?s a good idea to choose a single unifying color which can be used in the office to tie everything together. Also remember that this is primarily a working environment, stay away from animal prints or anything that may seem unprofessional. Of course it does depend what industry you are in. For professional designs choose solid colors.

Clutter will also make any office look unprofessional, you need to install plenty of storage to keep clutter to an absolute minimum. Some clutter is to be expected, just keep it under control!

The primary material for water pipes in major U.S. cities, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was lead. Its durability and malleability made it a very popular choice for pipe material. Eventually galvanized steel and copper would replace lead, and copper pipe would eventually become the most popular material used in home water service and distribution in mid to late 20th century construction.

Lead contamination, caused by pipe corrosion and erosion, was the major source of lead-related health problems in the years before the health hazards of ingesting lead were fully understood. Two of the most serious health problems were stillbirth and high rates of infant mortality. Part of what did and continues to makes it so serious is that, unlike many other plumbing or pipe problems, there is no way to detect it without having your water tested. On its website, the EPA offers general information about lead contamination and how to test for it.

If you have lead in your water, it?s generally because of lead-based solder which was the primary material to join copper pipes together, a service line pipe from your house to the city or town water main made out of lead, and brass or chrome-plated brass faucets. In 1986, Congress put and end to the use of lead solder with over 0.2% lead in it. The lead in faucets, pipes and every other plumbing material was not allowed to exceed 8.0%.? ?Lead-free? brass legally can can?t have than 8% lead in it and plumbing systems installed prior to the 1986 legislation can possibly contain higher levels of lead.

Water lines from the city or town water main to a home or building?s water system may be a lead pipe in older structures. If you or a previous owner of the structure had your plumbing system upgraded since 1960, it?s probably composed of galvanized pipe. Galvanized pipe doesn?t need lead solder to be joined. Faucets need to be checked for brass or chrome-plating, you?re the original manufacturer, a local hardware store, or a licensed plumber should be able to tell you if yours contain either.

If you have lead contamination from your pipes, epoxy lining can be your solution. Once installed it is a barrier to lead leaching into your drinking water. The epoxy lining prevents the metal of the pipe and the water flowing through from coming into direct contact. This prevents the chemical reaction that causes pipe corrosion. Epoxy pipe lining eliminates and prevents lead and other metals (from your pipes) leaching into the water, as well as a host of other poor water quality issues such as: water that?s red, brown, blue or yellow, zinc or iron leeching in galvanized pipes causing a metallic taste, and bacteria that causes bad tasting water or water that smells.

A relatively unknown technology, epoxy pipe lining is not a new technology, –in fact it?s well proven. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Navy have both ested and approved the use of epoxy pipe lining to prevent contaminants, including lead, from leaching into drinking water. Their reports are published and links to them can be found at curaflo.com/CuraFlo/ResourceCenter. The epoxy used by CuraFlo in epoxy pipe lining, CuraPoxy?, is certified to meet the U.S.

government?s highest stadard for safe drinking water: ANSI/NSF Standard 61. ANSI/NSF Standard 61 certification means CuraPoxy is certified for safe use in drinking water pipes carrying water up to 180? Fahrenheit or 82.2? Celsius. The proprietary epoxy and epoxy pipe lining process CuraFlo uses will protect you from lead and other metals in your pipes that may be leaching into your water now or might in the future, by creating a safe barrier between them and your water.

You’ve just unpacked the car on a beautiful sunny day. Your at the dock, ready to spend the day on your boat. The kids are excited and anxious to get out on the water. You board your cabin cruiser and enter the cabin. Suddenly you’re overwhelmed by the stench. The smell is more than anyone can stand. The afternoon cruise is cancelled, and everyone is upset.

Could this have been averted? Of course it could. There are many products on the market that would have effective in this situation but the big question is: are they safe? Are they green?

There is clearly a “green revolution” going on in the world. Everyone is trying to do their part to save the environment. This is definitely true among the boating crowd. It is imperative to the future of the waterways that we use products that are eco-friendly. No one wants to sail in polluted waters.

With eco-friendly “Green” EPA approved products you can clean and disinfect, deodorize and kill mold and mildew with just one product. Safe enough to drink but strong enough to kill 99.9% of all bacteria. If these products are accidentally spilled into the water they will do no harm to the eco-system.

You can safely protect yourself, your family, and your boat from mold and mildew using a Green product. What boat doesn’t have some mold or mildew issues?

Cooking odors are another concern while on board. Using an everyday airfreshener just adds harmful VOC’s to the air. In a small cabin this could be very dangerous to you or your family. A Green odor eliminator is odorless, and will not give off any harmful VOC’s as it contains no harmful chemicals.

You want to be prepared for situations like the one at the beginning of this article. It is necessary to have something on board before it is needed. And you want this product to be safe, not only for you and your family, but for pets and around food. Don’t choose a product that is not safe. Look at the label for product warnings and ingrediants. Remember, most products that have a scent contain harmful chemicals. Green products should be odorless and safe. Keep in mind “Clean has no Odor

So many of us harbor beliefs about ourselves that are not only wrong, but downright destructive. Would you like to find out how to bypass the Belief Detective inside of you that is holding you back from believing good things about yourself?

You may not realize this, but your beliefs are assumptions, explanations, and conclusions you’ve adopted throughout your life starting in infancy. They become the rules that shape your perception of the world. They become so ingrained, due in part to your experiences that seem to prove their accuracy. So you think they are truth, when in fact they are not.

Many times two children can grow up in the same household, in the same environment and end up with vastly different beliefs. How can that happen? It happens because the individual’s beliefs are based on how they interpret an environment, not on the actual environment itself. One child may grow up feeling neglected because their parents worked a lot. They may end up being needy and always seeking love because they felt rejected. The other child may become fiercely independent because they believe that they learned to stand on their own two feet. Same environment, different interpretation, different beliefs.

Since beliefs are the foundation upon which we build our view of the world, its difficult to move forward in life and to break through barriers if our beliefs limit us. They define our world, and anything we do that challenges a deep-seated belief meets with great resistance. I know for me, it feels like an internal tug-of-war! It seems like I have this Belief Detective, and anytime a belief feels threatened, it retaliates.

You’ve probably experienced how your negative beliefs are insidious and keep you stuck. If you believe you will never succeed, then that belief will keep you from succeeding no matter what actions you take. However, we all have positive beliefs as well, or we would never accomplish any good in our lives. Most of our beliefs are lodged deep in our sub-conscious minds and are hidden from view. We are being driven and directed by these unknown beliefs, so it is challenging to change them if we don’t know what they are.

Often, when we get lucky, beliefs that no longer serve us get replaced by more productive beliefs all by themselves (like you may believe you can’t ride a bike until you do - presto - belief gone). So our task then is to root out the old negative beliefs that have been holding us back and replace them with beliefs that serve our higher purpose.

NNow how do you go about changing these beliefs? First you have to be willing and you need to realize that the beliefs you hold have some sort of payoff for you. Maybe they prove you right, maybe they keep you safe, but whatever it is, when you try to change it, your Big Bad Belief Detective will try to stop you. For instance, I was told that doing affirmations was very helpful in reprogramming limiting beliefs. However, I found that I just couldn’t do them for any length of time. I’d get bored, tired or find other excuses not to do them. Why, because my Belief Detective put up those roadblocks to stop me from trying to change my beliefs. Insidious, isn’t it? I finally realized that I would need to find a way to bypass my Belief Detective.

I just had to find a way, so I tried meditation, visualization, hypnosis and a lot of other stuff with some limited success, but the excuses would always creep back in and I’d stop doing them. What finally worked for me was to set my affirmations into short, catchy little tunes. Have you ever heard a jingle on TV or the radio that played in your head all day long? Well, I used that phenomenon and created short little jingles with affirmation statements in them. They would run all day long in the back of my mind over and over. I called them AttitudeZapz!

Has there ever been a time when you’ve argued with yourself about song lyrics? Not very likely. Also scientific studies have proven that by keeping the critical part of the the mind, the conscious mind, occupied by music, the uncritical subconscious will be able to accept the affirmations without filtering them. There’s no little voice inside your head telling you it’s not true. And once these little affirmation jingles get stuck in your head, you can sing them on autopilot and you don’t even have to wonder if you believe the words or not. They just melt right into your subconscious mind with no effort at all.

So finally I’d found a way to bypass the Belief Detective. Because of that one little thing, I’ve grown by leaps and bound and you can too. You can do the same thing with your own affirmations if you want to, or if you don’t feel that creative, try AttitudeZapz!, and your Belief Detective will soon be out of a job!

Insects might be responsible for some of the problems you are experiencing with your roses. These insects can be your roses’ worst friends, and will cause major damage if you do nothing to keep them away. These are some of the top ten most wanted enemies of your roses, and some ways to identify them and get rid of them.

1. Aphids

Aphids are the most frequent insect problem you will find in your roses. These insects like to make themselves comfortable in the roses’ growing tissues like buds and shoots. Aphids usually are just a problem during the spring and early summer.

Although few - or even moderate - numbers of aphids won’t cause much damage to your roses, you need to watch them and make sure their numbers don’t spread. A large group of aphids can produce honeydew, a waste product that has the consistency of a sugary liquid. This honeydew can encourage mold; the mold eventually will blacken the roses’ leaves. Flowers may decrease and new buds may be killed if there are large numbers of aphids in your roses.

You may not need to use insecticides to control your aphids. They have some natural enemies, including syrphid flies and lady beetles. If these insects aren’t around to deter your aphids, you can try washing them off of the roses with water or special types of soaps.

2. Spider Mites

Spider mites may be to blame if you notice that your roses’ leaves are drying up and falling off, or if they look like they have numerous small dots (stippling). These pests are so small that you might need a magnifying glass to find them.

Spider mites usually infest your roses because of dry and dusty conditions. It’s possible to try to control them by reducing the amount of dust and by making sure that your roses and other plants have enough water.

3. Fuller Rose Beetles

Fuller rose beetles spell big trouble as adults, when they like to chew on your rose bushes. You can usually tell they are there by the ragged edges on the roses’ leaves and flowers.

The beetles usually feed at night, when they will chew away at the roses’ flowers and leaves. During the day, fuller rose beetles hide on the leaves’ undersides.

Pesticides typically are not effective in dealing with these persistent beetles. Your best method to get rid of them is picking them off by hand.

4. Thrips

Thrips have a particular fondness to white or light-colored roses. They damage the blooms by leaving brown streaks on the flowers and cause an immense amount of damage. Thrips are a very big problem when the rose bushes are planted close to each other; thrips move easily from one plant to another.

It can be hard to control thrips with pesticides because the pesticides are mainly effective when the insects are in their development phase and are very difficult to see. The best way to get rid of thrips is to clip and throw away the infected flowers.

5. Caterpillars

Some caterpillars love to make lunch and dinners out of rose leaves. Although the damage usually doesn’t threaten the plant, the leaves can look unsightly. Remove the damaged leaves and prune any buds that are damaged.

6. Rose Slug

These insects are actually the larva of sawflies, but look like caterpillars because the rose slugs have legs. You can wash rose slugs off the bushes using a spray of water. One of their natural enemies also may keep them at bay.

7. Leafcutter Bees

These bees make holes in the rose bush leaves and take the leafy material back to their nests.

Although the leaves may not look nice, you really must put up with the bees. There’s no effective way to keep leafcutter bees away from your roses. Bees also are good for the plants because they help with pollination.

8. Rose Curculios

These pests, which are about a quarter of an inch long, start dining as young as larvae on your rose buds as they develop. The rose curculios are particularly fond of yellow and white roses.

Rose curculios eat the buds by punching holes in the buds and blooming flowers. They kill the buds before the buds can even open. You can get ride of a rose curculio infestation by getting an insecticide from a local garden or home center.

9. Flat-headed borers

Flat-headed borers can make the canes of the rose die back, and can kill the canes and the entire plant.

To get rid of the insects, you’ll need to remove any material that has an infestation. You can keep your rose bushes healthy by making sure they have enough water and not overpruning them during the summer.

10. Scale Insects

These pests get their names from the armored scales that they have. Scale insects also like to cause havoc with the cans on your rose bushes.

They may look like small gray ovals, and don’t really move around but you can find them in the front porch or back yard landscape. Because scale insects have no legs, they are there to stay. The best way to try to control them is to prune infected canes and put pesticide oil on any canes that you don’t prune.

Have you realized the savings of buying used office furniture over new? If yes, then all you have to do is get out there and compare. The most important factor besides price is functionality.

Office furniture makes all the difference when it comes to work productivity and overall happiness. If your office furniture is puke green in color, you may find productivity goes down the drain. Beyond looks, it definitely comes down to price and comfort as well.

There are some ugly offices out there. If the office owner just would have chosen a different color, it may have made all of the difference. Some people just have bad taste and they should really consider a designer or at least a second opinion.

Be sure to purchase office furniture in your favorite colors which will also convey a professional atmosphere to your clients. Always remember that you are the one who will be spending the whole day in your office. But, first impressions are everything.

When you pick out the furniture for your office, it’s important to focus on work functionality. If everything looks great, but nothing is accessible, you could be out of business. There is also a balance between comfort, because too much of it could put everyone to sleep.

Take desks for example. Is there adequate storage space under and above it? If not, that desk could get cluttered fast and look atrocious. You can only imagine what image your clients could have if your desk is a disaster.

When you are looking for office furniture you must always think about yourself and the endless days you will be utilizing it. This is because your comfort is of the greatest importance when you work for longer periods. Thus, an office chair which provides excellent back support is very important than a leather chair that’s only good for style and appearance.

When you select office furniture you must also consider about the cost. Because you can opt for used office furniture, you can save lots of money if you are patient. Most of the time, you don’t have to compromise your comfort for cost if you shop around.

For example, if you purchase an office chair which was inexpensive but uncomfortable, you would eventually find yourself spending more money for a comfortable office chair. This is why it is better to purchase home office furniture which is comfortable from the start.

There are many used furniture dealers that specialize in layouts as well. Getting a custom design can save you weeks of time from having to go out and buy all new stuff again. Exercising a little patience can pay off dearly in the long run.

The search engines provide great resources for finding used and new furniture. All you have to do is push a few buttons on your computer and you are on your way to finding the best available office furniture for your specific needs.

Regardless of how you feel about gas prices, virtually everyone should concerned with the environment. We all live together on this earth, and if the planet becomes destroyed, it won’t matter if you are rich or poor, black or white, old or young; We will all suffer together. Over the next 40 years, it’s predicted millions of people will needlessly die due to global warming based conditions like skin cancer, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases.

You really need to pay a lot more attention to what your own carbon footprint output is in both the negative and positive aspects, as your changes will really help to reverse the current environment conditions. By only planting one dam tree you can make a difference by offsetting nearly 750 kg of carbon, but on the other hand if you take a plane from Washington to Boston you will put 720 kg of carbon back into the environment, so in effect you need to plant at least one tree for every trip.

On average, each American citizen is responsible for almost 22 tons of carbon dioxide per year, far in excess of the world’s average of just 6 tons per person. And while I’m not suggesting you bicycle to your next business trip, there are a number of ways you can dramatically cut your carbon footprint: -

Tip #1: Buy local. “Carbon cost” is added to virtually everything within the consumer society. You have to take into account transportation, distance and the amount of energy that is consumed in the final delivery of a product to it’s point of sale. Recent U.S. Department of Agriculture studies show that the majority of fruit and vegetables have to be transported an average of 1500 miles from the farm up to the kitchen table. This is a complete and utter waste of resources, so do your bit and buy local farm produce.

Tip #2: Dress appropriately. When I say appropriately, I don’t mean what to wear if we are going out to the theater. I mean in our own home. Just adjust your thermostat according to the season and wear less or more clothing as the case might be. This is not a lot to ask of anybody and you could even help in contributing 2,000 pounds of co2 less each year into our fragile environment. You will also feel the difference in your pocket as high savings in energy costs are guaranteed. But the main reason for doing this is to help our environment get back on track, so don’t forget it.

Tip #3: Replace old technology. If every home in America replaced just 3 light bulbs with energy-efficient CFLs, they would save $60 a year and collectively as a planet we would keep a trillion pounds of CO2 out of the atmosphere. Upgrade appliances and computers to those that are Energy Star rated, and turn off the lights when you leave a room.

Tip #4: Keep it clean. A 500% increase in global warming can be the result of owning a poorly maintained car as well as it costing more to run. Have your car regularly serviced and checked to improve efficiency and if you do go out shopping, go to the nearest available store.

Tip #5: Improve gas mileage. Definitely consider driving a hybrid car or installing an alternative energy booster. I would definitely recommend a water fuel car converter being installed into your existing car. This is a fine way to reduce your carbon footprint by half and you will see a 40% reduction in gas mileage.

If we start now, it will be a much better world for all of our children and grandchildren. Everybody on this planet is equally responsible to stop this destruction and if nothing is done, it will all just end in tears.

‘The Environment’ is a blanket term that includes two primary areas. The environment includes everything around us that is living or non-living. The first of the two areas of the environment is nature as it exists without human interference - animals, plants, microorganisms, even the atmosphere and soil.

The second area that forms a part of the environment is all that does not come from humans. These include forces of nature and forms of energy - elements like air and water, energy like radiation, magnetism and electric force and the climate.

The natural environment as we know it contrasts heavily with the built environment, which is everything that’s completely influenced by our own activity. If you take one geographical region, it can only be considered as a natural environment, if the human impact on it is at its minimum.

Typical examples for existing natural environments are national forests and restricted large nature reserves. While the exact conditions required to be termed as a natural environment can vary from place to place, the term wilderness simply belongs to regions completely without human interference.

We all know that natural environments are dwindling now. Whether it is the melting of the glaciers or the rising temperatures everywhere or the erratic rains, human interference has thrown a major obstacle in the way of the natural climate and environment. This is what natural environmentalist groups are campaigning against. They are trying to make sure that what there is left is kept intact, and new areas that can be classified as natural environments are created, as well as new wildernesses.

The common environmental preservation goals include several short-term and long-term aspirations. These include reducing pollution and cleaning up to achieve a zero pollution level, using non-recyclable materials to create energy, minimising non-renewable fuel consumption in society, developing alternative energy sources, conserving precious resources such as air, water and land, protecting pure ecosystems, preserving endangered species and maintaining the biodiversity that all life forms on Earth depend on.

With all the pollution that the earth has to face every day, there is every need to be concerned about our natural environment. Industrial plants, huge development projects - everything that is supposed to advance the human race sets the Earth back drastically. Global warming is just one of the many things we have to worry about.

We are the reason the natural environment is facing such danger. It is our responsibility to try and preserve the environment - not just stop damaging it, but fixing the damage that has been done. There is no time to lose - preservation can start right at home.

You will find that there are going to be a lot of lessons that you learn by simply buying a home, and plumbing is one of them. If you are not a licensed plumber then you will not even want to think about doing anything more than using Draino. This does not mean that you are not capable of doing something good with the plumbing; however, it does leave a lot of room for error. Keep in mind that plumbers tend to be overpriced and you may end up finding that there are a lot of hidden fees like travel time and other things. You will want to make sure that you are at your rope’s end before you call a plumber, however, don’t try to be the super and fix it yourself. Call around and see who is good and who is worth your time. For the times where you have water all over the place and the house just seems crazy, you will want to shut off the water and then call someone close and ask who they prefer. This way you can get the quality workmanship without putting up with a lot of hassle.

If possible, you will want to compare shopping. Compare shopping will help you to get the best price, but not always the best work. You will want to make sure that you think about things like hourly rates and charges for mileage. You will want to make sure that you understand their rates and how much you feel comfortable with their charging methods. Keep in mind that some will charge by the minute, or simply by the hour. You will want to keep in mind that there are a lot of hidden fees too. Make sure that you ask them about how much all together you are looking for and then add ten percent. Can you live with that?

When it comes to plumbing it is hard to pick a price. You don’t really want to look at who is cheaper, because they may only give you a half-fast job and then you are stuck hiring another person. You will want to make sure that you call some of your friends and family members and ask who they use. Everyone has a plumber that they prefer and a plumber who they will go with if their first choice is too busy. Keep in mind that satisfaction is one of the most important things that you need to be concerned with.

Also, if possible, you will need to minimize your plumbing needs. Don’t just call for a backup on a drain, but call if the pipes are broken or some other big job. You will want to consider calling a plumber if you drop something down the drain of your sink and (hopefully the filter will catch it) or if something large is stuck in your toilet pipes (perhaps your son’s truck).

Keep in mind that plumbers tend to be overpriced and you may end up finding that there are a lot of hidden fees like travel time and other things. You will want to make sure that you are at your rope’s end before you call a plumber, however, don’t try to be the super and fix it yourself.
