Women Can Benefit From Natural Supplements

Health No Comments
by Candice T. Ghirardelli

In today’s busy world, many women find it difficult to do everything they need to feel physically and mentally healthy, and operate at peak performance. We all know that establishing and maintaining a healthy, nutritious diet is key to looking and feeling good, but women who struggle with hormonal imbalance or thyroid problems, for example, are likely to find it especially hard to stick to such a regimen.

Women are wise to use caution in dealing with the myriad weight loss supplements on the market; many have undesirable side effects, and don’t really address chemical imbalances in the body. Stemulite for Women, however, can help women to maintain a healthy equilibrium, resulting in better sleep, enhanced mental alertness, and a boosted metabolism. This herbal supplement, which comes in both a daytime and a nighttime formula, is a safer alternative to many of the weight loss drugs on the market.

Who needs Stemulite for Women?

The Stemulite formula for women is especially valuable for women who are:

Athletic and need a quality dietary supplement for muscle repair

Experiencing stress and fatigue, and looking for better quality sleep and rest

Searching for a supplement to complement your weight loss regimen

In need of more “get-up-and-go” during the day.

Looking for a supplement that improves mental processing and mental clarity

What Stemulite Can Do For Women

When the metabolism is not functioning correctly, the result is often extra weight gain, fatigue and poor sleep. The Stemulite formula for women helps to bring the body into balance and improve metabolic functioning; this helps supply the body with the energy it needs for repairing cells and increasing strength and vitality. Stemulite may also help reduce the chances of erratic hormone levels and blood sugar imbalances so that dieting and working out become much easier.

Here are just a few of the ways in which Stemulite can benefit women:

Enhancing the body’s natural ability to grow muscle. An intensive workout regimen is all well and good, but it won’t accomplish as much without good nutrition and a balanced body chemisty. R-lipoic acid, an ingredient in Stemulite for Women, decreases mitochondrial decay and assists your body in creating muscle, as well as promoting stable blood glucose levels.

Enhanced mental faculties– L-Carnitine, an amino acid contained in the Stemulite for Women, is designed to promote the healthy uptake of neurotransmitters. Increased neurotransmitter function results in a greater sense of mental agility and clarity, and quicker, more accurate memory. Women with busy, stressful lifestyles will benefit the most from this valuable supplement.

Improved workouts and athletic performance– Stemulite contains the proprietary ingredient, SerraPeptase, an enzyme that breaks down waste proteins and helps with muscle and cell recovery. This can be especially beneficial for women who work out consistently, or those who live a very active lifestyle.

Helping to reduce cellulite– Quercitin is an antioxidant that assists the body in the process of flushing out toxic substances that leave cells inflamed. Taking Quercitin results in smoother, younger-looking skin, and less visible cellulite.

Better sleep– women who are constantly stressed, anxious or never feel like they get a good night’s rest can rest easy with the Stemulite night formula. This formula contains melatonin which helps regulate the metabolism and promote healthy circadian rhythms. This helps with day-to-day functioning and helps the body repair itself efficiently overnight.

Other key ingredients in the Stemulite formula for women include Indium, Beta Glucan and Eggplant Extract. Together, these ingredients work synergistically and keep the metabolism functioning at a healthy level.

Stemulite offers several benefits for women who need more balance in their lives, and those looking for a healthy weight loss supplement and dietary aid. The ingredients in Stemulite can help improve the metabolism and improve day-to-day functioning; the result is better sleep, a higher chance of weight loss, improved mental clarity and focus, and a healthier lifestyle overall.

Elliptical Trainer Benefits

Health No Comments
by Ray Lam

The elliptical trainers tread motion is similar to that of a stair climber machine but instead of stepping up and down the elliptical trainer steps in an elliptical motion. This elliptical motion produces less impact on the knee and hip joints. This low impact feature is one of the main benefits of the trainer.

Most versions of elliptical trainers have movable handles that let you exercise the upper body. This gives you a full body workout option. Because you exercise in an upright, weight bearing position with an elliptical trainer, you build up your leg muscles.

One of the benefits of using elliptical trainers is the amount of calories burned while working out. Because the feet never leave the foot pedals, the joints aren’t subject to impact. A running exercise with an elliptical trainer is comparable to jogging as far as the amount of calories burned, but without the jarring of the body joints. Elderly people and those with joint injuries will be greatly benefited by an elliptical trainer because of the very low impact on the body.

Ultimately, working all of these different muscle groups will give you a toner, fitter body. The workout is more even. You will also lose weight, tighten your muscles, and improve the health of your cardiovascular system.

Because the whole body is being worked out, the heart rate is increased thus higher metabolism is achieved. The elliptical trainer is programmed with different levels of training so that the user can choose the best work out routine - be it moderately easy or very intense. The elliptical trainer is safer to use because if the user stops, the elliptical motion stops too, thus eliminating the threat of a fall. This is not true with a tread mill.

Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome-Escape the Torture

by Sara Mendez

Thousands of memories make up our lives and our own personal history. Memories can make us laugh, cry, or bring a smile to our face. Often we wish we could relive certain memories everyday and enjoy them or sometimes we wish we could go back and change things. To change a memory is impossible, but with today’s advancing science and other clinical practices, it is not so absolute.

Think back for a moment, find a memory you would like to relive. Think about how you feel, how the memory makes you feel. Perhaps you want to change something in the memory, think about how this could change your life. Now imagine for a moment that this memory is a traumatic memory. You would be reliving this memory over and over again everyday. The memory will torment you and cause stress and anxiety in all aspects of your life. This is what people with post traumatic stress syndrome deal with everyday. Everyday they relive a painful memory such as a rape, abuse, war memories, or something as simple as a car accident. The memory consumes them and everyone around them. Often they are not able to hold jobs, have families or healthy relationships, and in some extreme cases the person is not able to function at all.

Post traumatic stress syndrome can cause people to of depressed and dysfunctional, as well as stressed and anxious. Sometimes these reactions are so severe, people begin to self medicate through drugs and alcohol. They are typically trying to forget the painful memory and drugs or alcohol can provide that. Often this method of treatment gets out of control, their addictions start to take over their lives just as much as the memory, this can only make things worse for the person.

Self destructive behaviors such as drug and alcohol abuse are common for people suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome. There is good new though. New treatments are being explored. One of those new treatments is hypnosis. Hypnosis or behavior modification, works with the mind in a unique way. While undergoing hypnosis, you are able to revisit the traumatic memory and learn to look at it in a different way. You learn to deal with your feelings toward the memory in a more positive way instead of letting the feelings consume you and those around you. In some cases you may even be able to forget the memory completely.

There are other treatments in development to help with post traumatic stress syndrome, such as Propranolol, a drug which is used in patients with hypertension, as well as other anesthesias. According to an article in Ottawacitizen.com, a Canadian newspaper, when a drug is injected at the precise moment a person is thinking about a bad memory, studies show that memory can be replaced. This treatment is still in early developments and research but could hold promise in the future. Unfortunately, people with post traumatic stress syndrome, those memories are like a jail for the mind. They need help now.

Hypnosis offers a safe, non invasive, and readily available treatment for those suffering from painful, traumatic memories. No one wants to feel like a prisoner in their own mind or have one memory control everything in their daily lives. These painful memories make everything more difficult, even if they memory it self seems trivial. There are new treatments on the horizon for people who suffer from this condition, there is no need to wait when there is something available to help you now.

Creation of a Smoking Habit

Health No Comments
by Sara Mendez

Let’s pretend you wanted form a habit. And not just some wimpy habit, but a major, mind controlling, and life changing habit behavior. Where do you start to make it a really strong habit that will feel impossible to break? There are three basic ways we learn habits; emotions, authority figures, and repetition.

An example will help explain this.

Now, let’s pick a person for our example. How about you when you were 10-14 years old. And for this example, let’s use the habit of smoking.

While in that age range, we’ll assume you were learning about life and how you fit in it. You may not have felt as sure about yourself as you would later in life.

Maybe you felt self-conscious, dependent on others, powerless, not good enough, or something like these. We’ll refer to this as feeling “bad”. Now, this does not necessarily mean you felt miserable, but did you feel as “good” as you wanted to feel? Did you feel as “good” as you believed other people felt?

Feeling like that would lead you to wanting to feel better, or, as good as everyone else. What ways does your mind see to do this?? That matters upon what learning situations you’ve been exposed to.

Maybe you had authority figures in your young life that smoked, like parents, relatives, friends, advertisements, role models. At this point in your life, smoking would have been seen as tough, strong, independent, self-assured, unique, “good”. Repetitively exposed to the thing you felt your life lacked.

This would create a desire (craving) in you to do this thing. A belief that smoking is what your life is missing. And not just in a “knowing” way, but a “feeling” way as well, which is much more powerful.

Eventually you smoked your first cigarette, and DID feel better, sort of. You weren’t too good at smoking the first time. You had to practice to get good at it. And you did.

As life continues you come across situations that make you feel “bad” again and do what you’ve been taught makes you feel “good”. That is repeated emotions and practice and you have a strong habit.

A lot of people working to quit smoking have thought of these things. A lot have not. But, all of the people that have tried to quit smoking have used a lot of time thinking and analyzing their habit. Trying to argue themselves into quitting. But, you didn’t learn this habit by thinking and analyzing. Why would trying to quit smoking that way work?

It is a lot easier to quit smoking with the same methods you started smoking with. A “hypnotized” state of mind combined with emotions, authority figures and repetition. Often called modern hypnosis.

Eat More Grape Seed Extract and OPCs

Health No Comments
by Harvey Robinson

Grape seed extract and OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) are miraculous antioxidants. There are many kinds of antioxidants with different effects on the human body. There is little question that OPCs are one of the best antioxidants for the human body and grape seed extract is one of the best and most economical sources of OPCs.

OPC is also known as proanthocyanidin, pycnogenol, leukocyanidin and leucoanthocyanin. OPC is a complex of a molecule known as a flavan-3-ol flavonoid. Flavan-3-ols are the most abundant flavonoids in our diet. In plants different OPCs are found together, from small molecules to complex molecules of many flavan-3-ols linked into chains. Plants cells bond flavan-3-ol molecules to form different larger and more complex moleculars called OPCs. OPCs are very complex and can be difficult to identify unless you are an expert and have the equipment. Not all extracts are standardized. Single flavan-3-ol molecules are much less bioavailable than the more complex OPCs.

Grape seed extract is made by extracting and concentrating flavonoids from the seeds of red grapes. Grape seeds are rich in OPCs, beta-carotene, vitamin E, and bioflavonoids. The antioxidant power of grape seed extract is much greater than vitamin C and vitamin E. Questions about grape seed extract OPCs are far from settled. Science has much work to do to show what effects can be expected and what the best standardized extracts are. Not much is understood about their absorption and metabolism. Scientists are continuing to study all the beneficial compounds so their effects on the body can be grokked.

There is evidence that shows OPCs help strengthen the blood vessels, increase blood flow, improved cardiovascular health, help with inflammation, boost the immune system, act as a natural anti-histamine and improves resistance to bruising and strokes.

As a natural anti-histamine OPCs prevent the release of histamine from your body’s cells, this reduces the adverse effects of histamine. Pharmaceutical antihistamines are not able to do this, they only block allergic attack symptoms and have no effect on the level of histamines being released. OPCs permeate the blood-brain barrier to reduce free radical damage to brain cells.

OPCs are found in hundreds of plants. Just a few examples are apples, grape seed, grape skin, red wine, red skins of peanuts, barley and beer, bean hulls, berries, bilberry, blackjack oak, black currant, chocolate, chokeberrys, coconuts, cranberrys, green and black tea, hawthorn, horse chestnut, pine bark, rhubarb, rose hips, sorghum, and witch hazel.

Side effects of moderate long term use have not been reported anywhere I can find, but not many studies on humans have been done. High doses of grape seed extract OPCs may have some anticoagulant properties. This might cause excessive bleeding in people on blood-thinner drugs. Even if you are just taking aspirin you should take high doses of grape seed extract only under medical supervision. There is evidence that grape seed extract may interfere with the way the liver breaks down some drugs. As always consult with you health care professional before taking during pregnancy.

The Right Way To Workout Using a Rowing Machine

Health No Comments
by Ray Lam

Rowing is, arguably, the best workout you can give your body. Unlike other workouts, a rowing machine workout, which only works a certain body part or set of body parts at a time, rowing works out your whole body. Not only does it work your body’s muscle groups, it also works your cardio-vascular system as well. Few other workouts, save swimming, are this inclusive. There are many benefits to adding rowing to your exercise routine.

Rowing helps you to work all of your major muscle groups. Each major action involved in rowing works a muscle group when doing a rowing machine workout. Your abdomen and upper legs are worked during the catch. Your arms, back, shoulders and abdomen are worked during the pull. Finally, during the release, you work your legs, your hips, your upper body and your back. Also, because the action of rowing is technically a single fluid movement, this workout is easy on the joints and shouldn’t jar your knees or your elbows. This isn’t the case in most other kinds of exercise. You will have to remember; however, to stay relaxed and not let your muscles tense or lock up during your rowing machine workout. It is also a good idea to start slowly. As you build up strength you can adjust the settings on the rowing machine, but you shouldn’t ever try to overdo it. Rowing itself produces faster results than other exercise methods, so the need to push harder isn’t as strong when you have a rowing machine workout.

Another benefit to adding a rowing machine workout to your workout routine is that rowing helps you lose weight. Okay, most exercise when done properly will burn off calories and help you lose weight, but it has been proven that rowing produces faster and more reliable results. A good rowing machine workout can burn between five hundred and eight hundred calories in an hour. Rowing will also help you to strengthen and tone your muscles. As you row, your muscle mass will increase. This is good because muscle mass burns calories much more efficiently than fat does. This means that as you increase your muscle mass you increase your body to lose weight naturally - which a rowing machine workout will help.

If you are a beginner but want to reap the benefits of rowing it is a good idea to start at a low resistance setting. Many of the better rowing machines can be adjusted gradually in resistance so that as fitness increases, so can resistance settings. For heavy strength training the resistance will be high and the rowing motion will be slow, but for endurance the resistance can be lower but with more repetitions.

Rowing really is one of the best work outs you can take part in. It is on par with swimming and the elliptical trainer in terms of overall effectiveness. Wouldn’t you rather do an hour of a rowing machine workout than do an hour and a half on four different machines that might not give you the same results? Do yourself a favor and try out a rowing machine workout.

How to Successfully Lose Weight For Good

Health No Comments
by Jas Oh

Want to know how to successfully lose weight? Firstly, you do not want to lose weight fast - it’s just being stupid. Even if you do, you are suffering for it, and most likely you will pile the weight back on. Secondly, weight loss is about being realistic. You did not gain the over night, so you can expect to lose it overnight. Losing weight is about staying patient, eating sensibly and staying active. But more importantly, it is about implementing new positive changes that will help you lose the weight, keep it off and improve your health. If you are ready for that, below are 5 key steps to get you going-

1. Avoid Saturated fats, and eat more ploy or mono saturated fats. And to boost your intake of good fats, eat regular helpings of oily fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel. Use extra virgin olive oil for cooking and salads, and also try flax oil, canola oil, soy oil and walnut oil. For nuts and seeds, choose almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, peanuts, hazelnuts and Brazil nuts, as well as sunflower seeds, sesame seeds and pumpkin seeds. Lastly, when you buy meat, get the lean meat that are trimmed of fat!

2. Choose exercises that you enjoy - and don’t over do it. Pull ups are an excellent way to increase your strength, but some people just despise doing them. Don’t do exercises just because it helps you with strength training, if it makes you feel miserable. You have to find a way enjoy your fix, or choose another exercise that offers the same benefits but is not so tedious or stressful on you. Have fun and look for improvements each month.

3. Don’t be tempted by plans offering huge weight loss over a short period of time. A plan offering fast results is not a healthy or a wise choice - you want a plan you can stick with for the rest of your life; a healthy diet that will keep the weight off. Once you start reducing body fat, look at exercises that will strengthen your body with resistance training and high intensity aerobic exercises.

4. Never compare yourself to others. Each of us is a unique individual with our own unique genetic make up which controls some of our weight gain, weight loss and even how our muscles respond to training. Don’t rate your accomplishments according to the achievements of others; instead continue at your own pace and your own goals. If you try too hard you simply set yourself up to fail.

5. Meal planning and time management are key components of creating a healthy eating plan. Hence, plan your meals in advance each week. This will help you avoid impulse purchases at the grocery store that may not support your commitment to healthy eating. Plan your grocery list consisting of products that are low in fat like lean meat, skinless chicken and fish, fresh or frozen fruits and veggies, healthy nuts for snacking, low-fat dairy products and plenty of whole grains (whole wheat pasta, legumes, brown rice). Better still, include plenty of high-fiber foods in your daily diet, as fiber has been shown to fuel your body with great nutrition and keep you full longer.

The above tips are just some of the things you can do now to lose your weight. But just make it a point to gradually change your lifestyle. For example, if you have been on the fast food diet 5 days of the week, look at cutting it down to 4 days and progressively just cut it down to the occasional fast food over time. Losing weight is about patience, and making changes slowly. It is about getting real and making positive changes to your life.

Weight Loss and Income Level

Health No Comments
by Sara Mendez

Obesity rates among the poor reached a 147% increase in 2002 obesity according to medicinenet.com. This made those at the poverty level the fastest growing obesity group. Being obese for those at the poverty line is due to make circumstances which are out of their control. Some of the more common reasons why this group is so obese can be attributed to lack of exercise, food choices and no access to health food stores or supermarkets.

Living in government assisted housing, commonly known as “projects” are typical housing for those who are poor. The projects play host to gangs, shootings, and other more serious crimes. Many children and families report this as the number one reason they do not get out an exercise, they are too scared to be outside at all. Projects often do not have playgrounds, sidewalks or lawns where families or children can play. If there is a playground near by often it is a central meeting place for gangs and gang activity, again making it a less than ideal hang out for children or individuals looking for a place to exercise.

Imagine living off of Cup O’Noodle, macaroni and cheese and Hamburger Helper every night for dinner. This is a reality of those on food stamps or other food assistance programs. Trying to eat healthy on food stamps is near impossible. Often those who use foods stamps have many mouths to feed and they need to stretch the money as far as it will go. The Department of Human Services suggests buy cheep staple foods. Families who are on food stamps do not care how healthy or unhealthy a dinner or lunch is as long as their families are eating.

Often poor families do not buy organic foods and other food substitutes such as Egg Beaters or tofu as they are too expensive and food stamps generally do not cover expensive items when there are other alternatives such as real eggs. Many times low income families don’t even bother with a grocery list of items as there are no grocery stores anywhere near their homes and lugging $400.00 worth of groceries on a bus alone is not easy. Many do not buy fresh fruits or vegetables since one they can not afford to buy fresh produce every week and two there is no where in the inner city to buy these items.

Large cities such as New York, Chicago or Los Angles have health foods stores on every corner and large supermarkets going up everyday, however this is all happening in the suburbs not in the inner city. Many project tenets go grocery shopping at Circle K’s or Quickie Marts since they are close to their homes. Buying fresh vegetables and fruits, food alternatives such as Egg Beaters and tofu are not at things someone can buy at the local Circle K. Sciencedaily.com reports one of the leading reasons for obesity among the poor is lack of grocery stores in their neighborhoods. There are no farmers markets offering organic produce or health food stores with tofu, these people get what they can at corner markets.

Being poor is no reason to let your health suffer. However when it comes to trying to better yourself or become more healthy, the odds are defiantly against you if you are in the low income bracket. It has become more important then ever to take care of yourself regardless of your income level. The rising costs of health care are not going down, and by being obese you are not part of the solution.

Tai Chi Videos - Learn Tai Chi at Home

Health No Comments
by Ray Lam

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese art, in which practitioners use meditations and deep breathing techniques to perform a series of exercises called “forms” resembling slow-moving ballet. Tai Chi can be learnt privately from a tai-chi expert or in a class. However, if someone is unable to find a suitable instructor or cannot attend regular classes, he or she can still learn the art through books and videos. As tai chi does not require any special kind of attire, therefore it can be practiced easily in the comfort of one’s house.

When it comes to learning Tai Chi, as previously mentioned, there are a large number of individuals who do not have time to take an instructional class. There are also a few individuals who are afraid or nervous about taking a public Tai Chi class, with a group of strangers. Whether you are a pressed for time or if you want to avoid potentially weird moments at a training class, it is advised that you purchase yourself a Tai Chi video. Owning a Tai Chi video will not only allow you to learn Tai Chi, but it will also allow you to do so in the comfort of your own home. Being able to learn Tai Chi from your own home is just one of the many benefits to doing so.

In keeping with the content of a Tai Chi DVD, you will also want to examine the types of Tai Chi forms that are available for learning. A large number of Tai Chi DVDs will actually outline these forms for you on their covers or at least let you know how many Tai Chi forms you can learn by purchasing the DVD. It might also be a good idea to examine the length of each Tai Chi DVD that you are interested in purchasing. While short and to the point is sometimes good, you may want to look into purchasing Tai Chi DVDs that are also a little bit longer, as they may contain more information for you.

Depending on where you purchase your next Tai Chi video from, you should have access to a number of different tapes. A large number of retail stores sell Tai Chi videos for beginners, intermediate level participants, and advanced Tai Chi participants. Whether you are just starting to get in to Tai Chi or if you have been a fan of the well-known Chinese martial art before, you should be able to find a Tai Chi video that can accommodate to you and your level of experience.

You should also be able to find and purchase a Tai Chi DVD from an establishment that is often referred to as a Tai Chi learning center. These learning centers are the places where Tai Chi is taught to the general public. It is not uncommon for a Tai Chi learning center to have a small store or at least an area where Tai Chi products, including DVDs, can be purchased from. What is nice about making your Tai Chi DVD purchase from a Tai Chi learning center is that many centers examine and only carry a select number of Tai Chi DVDs, most commonly the ones that may provide viewers like you with the best information or Tai Chi instructions. You may also be able to find Tai Chi DVDs available for sale on a Tai Chi learning center’s website, should they have one.
