To view a website a person has to type in its domain name or Uniform Resource Locater (usually shortened to URL) The string of characters that is entered is normally a phrase or word telling us a business or product name, a site name or a description of the content of the site. There is a vital difference between the domain names offered at no cost and those offered by companies that specialize in cheap domain names. A free web hosting company will not usually want to invest in a new domain name and so will usually offer domains that are extensions of their own name to their customers.
A third level domain name includes the original hosting companies name as part of the address that must be typed in. This causes a bit of trouble with the name being long and with the extra bit tricky to recollect. Of course buying your own unique name will make the domain shorter and easier to remember. There are many cheap domain name companies so finding an affordable one is quite easy.
Cheap domain names can be free or they can range in price up to around seven dollars. Free domain names are usually only available in a bundle with paid for web hosting, so whilst technically free the customer is in reality still paying for it. Domain names can also be purchased on their own, without a web hosting package. The prices paid for these domains begin at one dollar and go up from there.
There is no difference in the registration process for a cheap domain name as for a regularly priced domain name. A customer needs to first check that the required domain name is vacant. The method of doing this is to enter the desired name into a particular text box and then choosing the extension required. The page will then tell them is the domain name is taken or not, if it is then they can purchase it, if not they will have to decide on a different name. Suggested alternatives will often be offered if the desired domain name is already in use.
Unfortunately there are down sides to using cheap domain names, a person name never receive their domain name of the company they are using is unscrupulous. The company will tell the customer that the domain will not be active immediately and that they will have to wait for some time. Unfortunately a customer usually finds that they have discovered an unscrupulous company when their e-mails to customer services, explaining that their domains are still inactive, go unanswered.
Finding out if the cheap domain name company is registered with the Better Business Bureau is a good way to make sure that you aren’t dealing with a fraudulent company. Making sure that businesses operate in a way that is acceptable and not fraudulent is what the Better Business Bureau does. A second step to making sure that a business is not fraudulent is to make sure they the cheap domain name company has the usual land based address and phone number. Thirdly, check message boards dedicated to webmasters to see if the company has a good or bad reputation.
Summary
Staying clear of a company that does not have anyone to offer a good opinion may be a reasonable step. If the company you are considering is reputable then there is no other disadvantage to getting a cheap domain name with them. All domain names work in the same way whatever was paid for them, so if a person can take advantage of a company offering cheap domain names then they should.

SEO is short for search engine optimization. SEO is an extremely difficult method that has many factors that compute the search engine position of your website. Usually, SEO companies only complete search engine optimization to already made website. In addition, web design companies can only design a website and simply do not have the experience to perform SEO as well. Now, a group of Texas Web Designers have emerged from “Reach A Web” and have finally mastered both web design and SEO.
You are often left with a website that either looks really nice but with awful Google placement, or a website that was designed by someone and the SEO Company that you hired has placed a bunch of content and keywords that took away from your design. Why? Why can’t you have both? The answer to that question is simple: Redesign your website using a company that can do both from the start. Starting over is the only way to locking a successful website. With the Texas Web Designers of Reach A Web you can finally get the best of both worlds.
Limiting yourself to SEO or a nice looking website is just that “A LIMITATION”. You own a great idea or successful business then you should have both exposure and the presentation to secure your next client!
As SEO companies can charge upwards of $2,200/mo, this team of Texas web designers charge “2 for the price of one” for work completed done in Texas. You can come out with a complete website and SEO package for under $4000.00. Why don’t we do the math? A custom website will cost you somewhere around $3,500 minimum. Tack on another $600 for your initial SEO report (takes them about 15 minutes to complete). In addition, you have another $700.00/mo for 6 months of SEO to worry about (and that can take up to 18 months). That is a total of $8,300.00. That alone is a savings of 4,300.00 while you get an ethically designed website that complies with all the codes of ethics of Google.
Let’s face it; SEO companies are not web design companies in nature. Those expertises are divided in two: SEO specialists and Web Design specialists. That is of course until you find a company that is truly good at both. The Texas web designers at REACH A WEB are the one of the few groups that can do both. They listen, care, and deliver with excellence.
Take a deep breath and think. Think about your web presence as a whole. Think about your presentation. Are you getting the most out of your website? Probably not! Don’t sell yourself short on either end of the stick. Your website today is your store tomorrow. Find web designers that can accomplish both, sharp web design and SEO from the ground up. You simply won’t be sorry!

Now that most people have the internet, the local news doesn’t do it for them. We would like to see local stories covered in more depth that local TV news can provide. Alternatively, perhaps you enjoy being aware of local events but you despise having to adhere to a time schedule. In order to get information about the new story you have to hear forty minutes of bad reviews that you have viewed previously.
We are fortunate to have online blogs so we can stay on top of all the most recent information. All of the TV stations that you watch have internet sites. News blogs are ideal for those interested in learning more about certain topics because posts are generally categorized by topic. Political pundits and voiced their opinions fiercly thanks to blogging on the internet. American politics are currently influenced by blogs and political opinion.
Politics are not the only subject that are talked about on blogs. Bloggers usually have something to say when any kind of news breaks. Iraqi citizen bloggers were extremely popular during the time Iraq was being bombed by the United States. Blogs give readers the chance to hear first-hand information from eyewitnesses. Clearly, large corporations control television news and other mainstream media sources. Before a story reaches you, it has been filtered several times. I think I speak for many people when I say that I don’t want my news filtered or censored.
You can take advantage of blog RSS feeds to keep updated on the latest events and posts. Google Reader is also a free handy tool that will allow you to keep updated on all of your favorite blogs all in one spot.
People who have set up an account at google have access to their favorite RSS feeds on their personalized google home page. This same service is offered by Yahoo. This is probably the most convenient way to get your favorites blogs. Viewers that provide a variety of options to show and filter what you have selected to view can be downloaded and installed on your computer.
If you prefer you can receive your feed by email too. Most blogs offer this kind of service and you will get an update daily (or as often as the author updates it) on your inbox. This is too a good way to stay at the top of the news of the themes that most interest you. Personally this is my favorite way to receive updates, since I always check my email several times during the day.
If your favorite blog doesn’t offer some of this options, you can ask the author to include it. Most of them will be happy to give you this kind of service to their readers. Although most blog software nowadays have this options installed by default, so it is usually just a matter of activating them.
Nowadays I prefer blogs over watching the news, simply because I like to get the facts without having to wait through a commercial.

Small businesses that wish to feature their services in internet often seek free and low priced web hosting services. This statement is generally true for companies who want to feature new websites. Free web hosting services offered by several hosting companies match the requirements of such businesses. The concept of free web hosting is based on a simple idea: a web host would provide free server space for hosting a small or medium business website. In return of this service the hosting companies would display advertisements on the client’s site and consequently earn from it. The free web hosting service is completely supported by advertisements but has its own limitations.
The free website hosts are making money with the application of such services as client’s can be easily lured by such a zero-price offer. These web hosts display popup, put banners, or advertisements on WebPages of the client’s website thus earning enough from free web hosting. There are several web hosting companies that provide free services to their clients against the condition that clients would click on banners that are their in their control panel or simply display banners in file manager with the expectations that client’s will click on them.
The search for free hosting services has lessened over time with the development of many companies providing low cost web hosting with greater flexibility and no ads. Since these services offer great savings over most high cost web hosting plans with much more options and capabilities than free space business are now choosing these over free plans. The newest marketing and social crazy, blogging began to give free services a boon. As those blogs became easier to set up and use, however, that too is taking a backseat to the ability to blog on a cheap site without the additional technical help that used to be required.
How reliable are free web hosts?
Since the prime objective of a web host is to make money, and a free host makes money off the ads on your website it is in their best interest to keep you up and running. There are some occasions that will cause a problem with service. Some clients report the free company for spam, or hacking and also complain about the free hosting company utilizing automatic installation of features like PHP or CGI that can cause slowdowns. All of the extra add-ons can create instability and down time. Those problems do not usually happen to large established companies, but more often with small start up web hosts.
The upside of free web hosts:
1. The free web hosting environments are great for students practicing web design, and their own hosting along with development. It allows them to store their projects, test them, and create them for free with no stress. They can expand their knowledge bank, and even share the information between each other. It is a valuable testing tool so they can see if their concepts are applicable and functional. It is a wonderful environment for creativity. Some web hosts cater specifically to that crowd such as boinc.ch who allows free accounts on their server for developers and students. People interested in creating a personal homepage can make great use of the features from these sites as well as it gives them the ability and freedom to share their personal life for free.
2. There are several voluntary organizations and non profit institutes who want to send their messages to public via internet. Since internet is the best possible way to reach out to the world, such organization would definitely find it useful and would like to utilize them. There may be several web hosts who would serve them free of cost due to emotional reasons. But apart form this, general free web hosting services, utilized by small businesses and students, can be equally fruitful to these organizations. They usually have a dearth of capital but an urgency to communicate with the world. They can use these services and create a basic website where information and news on their activities can be published.
3. The free services are of great benefit to community groups and others that have no income but want to share their talents with the global world. It also allows those with social and economical platforms to engage and communicate with the public without expanding on their expenses. These groups and individuals can make great use of the free web hosts by placing websites on the internet and providing links between each group, or other interested parties. They enjoy great benefits both in the SEO and cost perspective with free web hosting.
4. Free hosting services are ideal for family websites as they can use it personally for sharing photographs, important family events and other unforgettable moments. Though this kind of use is limited, there are websites devoted to such information. As these are personal information, it is always advisable that one goes for an authentic free web hosts only.
Cons of free web hosting
Though webs hosting services are best from monetary aspect, there are several disadvantages which compel the users to think twice before going for such a service.
1. The free host does not provide domain, or even second-level domain names. You will be allocated a subdomain which can be less impressive to viewers.
2. Bandwidth to share pictures and data is very low on a free service provider. You will get much more with a paid service.
3. Disk space is very limited making file size and picture size uploads restricted to certain amounts on the website.
4. The greatest disadvantage most people find with free websites are the banners and other ad like pop ups and pop unders that are placed all over their websites. It takes away perceived value when visitors click on their site and gives off a negative feeling on the usefulness of the company. Some of the ads can be compulsory in nature.
5. There is usually no guarantee of uptime.
6. Not all types of files can be uploaded in the websites. Free websites have restrictions to files like MP3, MPEG, ZIP etc.
7. Most of the free hosts do not provide any customer support as they consider it as of low priority. Even if, some provide such services, it is often limited to a month or so.

Basically, a webhost will provide you with a server that connects to the internet and allows your site to be accessible to web surfers. When choosing a web-hosting provider, there will be tons of questions you need answered before settling on the service that is right for you. Most often, when dealing with customer service, there tends to be a conflict of interest. Of course, they are trying to sell a service to you, so their ultimate goal is to make their web hosting features sound much better than the next choice.
Just because a company offers low prices, doesn’t mean it will provide the proper services that a particular customer needs. You will hardly find the best option for your business needs if your choice is based in price. When it comes to webhosting, all to often you get what you pay for. You have to analize another aspects if you want to choose the right provider.
Important factors in selecting a web hosting company include the percentage of server uptime. 98 to 99% uptime is the dream standard for server uptime, 65% is unacceptable. The higher the downtime of a server, the lower the potential for traffic at your web site. Another consideration is how much space is provided for the files that will make up your web site. How much bandwidth is in your package? Monthly bandwidth is the amount of data transfer allowed for visitors to view and use your web site.
After that, you’ll have to choose your domain name, it is often the first thing that a person sees when they search for you, and frequently, there will be an element of it involved in every aspect of your online identity, from usernames to emails. Think of it as your own online brand. Your domain name is the address that people type to get to your website, and it is completely unique to you. Take some time to really think about your domain name and what it can do for you; don’t get trapped into an online brand that does you more harm than good!
With today’s changing trends in web hosting services, it is important to get as much server space and bandwidth as you can. This will allow for necessary updates and increased traffic to your site as it becomes more popular. When you have less bandwidth, your site takes longer to load regardless of what connection your visitors have.
Knowing a little bit about related web hosting topics before approaching customer service allows you to get the most out of your questions. In the end, with the help of a reliable customer service rep with good intentions, you may or may not choose a particular web hosting company for your business. If you do your homework, you’ll find some good deals that will fit your budget.

Video sharing websites such as Youtube have been enormously successful and show substantial traffic growth and visitors. The trends are also showing that increasing amounts of people are visiting video sites, rather than Google to research information. This might be the time to launch your own site. Below we detail the information to get you started.
1. Rather than aiming at a mass market, choose a niche for your video site. I niche could include, cooking video’s, car maintenance, howto’s are perhaps “bloopers” and comic video’s.
2. Choose a good domain name, the shorter and snappier the better. This goes hand in hand with choosing your niche. If you are creating a niche video sharing website, such as racing cars or say football, consider incorporating your keywords into the domain.
3. Obviously you will need a web host for your video site. The cheapest option would be to go for shared hosting. So you may need a more specialist video provider. Once your site gets established you will need more resources, perhaps a dedicated server. A virtual private server is a good compromise.
4. Normal web hosting might need the requirements for video sharing so check out web hosts, and Google for “ffmpeg hosting.” FFMpeg is a utility that powers a lot of video sharing sites as it will encode video in varying formats to flash video player format (.flv)
5. This is important as your shares will upload their films in a variety of formats. You server or host will also require php (safe mode off) ffmpeg-php, libogg

Getting the best free web hosting service is definitely not easy. With thousands of free hosts on the web today it is hard to determine which is the best choice to use for your website. While there are popular free hosting services that have gained the trust and appreciation of many website owners, there is no guarantee that they can work for you. Thus you have to put a lot of effort in order to find that one free hosting service that is just suited for your needs.
Some free web hosting providers offer instant activation. This means that the moment you sign up you will be able to start building and using your site. Instant activation also has its drawbacks however. Web hosting providers who offer instant activation also often provide minimal storage space and bandwidth. These limitations can slow down the speed of your site and make it difficult to add details and store information such as graphics and links.
After compiling your list then decide the service that you want from a web host. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of availing the services of a particular web host. You might also want to ask around. Actually there are a lot of discussion forums on the Internet regarding free website hosting. Go around discussion boards and read. You can also ask people who have availed of free website hosting about their experiences in getting a free hosting service. This is a good way for you to learn about the pros as well as cons of getting such service.
Free web hosting also gave its users with sub domain name, making it almost impossible to be searched on in various search engines. This made most websites on free web host servers almost impossible to be found on search engines. Reliability was also a concern, troubling most business owners who availed of free website hosting. With all these problems arising, there’s little doubt that getting free website hosting is not that practical. It will not help websites particularly those selling products and services.
Remember, every free hosting firm will try to make money from your website. Look for a hosting firm, which is less intrusive and more reliable.

Companies that provide space and bandwidth for a domain with one or more web sites through an internet connected server are called Web Hosts. Major companies can host domains on their own equipment and IP address range, as allowed by their private networks. But for most of those who want an internet existence, a ‘rented’ web host is essential.
A wide selection of hosting plans is available. Some charge up to $100 or more per month while others are free. Some only offer a token amount of disk space and miniscule amounts of bandwidth use. For anything else, the web site owner is on his own. Others offer a broad set of services, including email server administration, backups, design help for your website, technical support, etc.
With web hosting, you may be sharing a server with one to a thousand web sites. This lets the web hosting company keep expenses down. These arrangements go fine when the web sites are simple and low-volume. You may want to consider a dedicated server to handle a rapidly growing web site.
As suggested by the name, a dedicated server only hosts your domain. You can put one web site on the server, or as many as you desire. The access is something you can control. Much of the server administration can be taken over by yourself, as an option. This will cost you considerable time, but may save you money on support costs. You can end up costing yourself much more than you save if you don’t have the expertise.
It’s advisable to have some technical knowledge to your credit if you are going to perform these administrative functions on your own, even if you do hire assistance. Some of that knowledge will be useful not only for dealing with emergencies, but for daily tasks as well. It will be necessary for you to familiarize yourself with FTP, backup methods, email administration, and other technical areas.
You’ll begin to find it worthwhile to look at implementing a database when your website grows to a certain size and level of complexity. However, that requires greater technical expertise as well as logistical planning and creative design.
It is relatively easy to implement a database. With careful thought, you can design what you want with decent performance that doesn’t become a nightmare. Everyone does not have the temperament for that type of work, especially the ones who prefer graphical design, content creation or development, and the many other web site tasks that are part of every implementation.
There are other, more menial administrative issues that must be addressed. “Utilitarian” tasks, such as managing disk space, maintaining domain names and dealing with registrations and changes are not enjoyable to most people. Knowledge about DNS workings as well as the design of the Internet itself is helpful. You will be more prepared if you have gained a comprehension of those tasks and their purposes.
All these factors should be considered before you begin to seek out a web host to implement a web site. Which web hosting company you should go for depends on a combination of who you are and what’s offered. Don’t jump in right away.

There are many reasons in which a data centre can fail. It can be quite frustrating, so it is important to know what those reasons are so that you can prevent them or know what to do when they happen. Because a lot of data centers exist on a site separate from the computers that are retrieving data from them, it is important that data centers continue running. When they go down, all computers pulling from them from various places around a single country or even the world are not going to be able to retrieve any information. Such is true for customer service jobs in which customer information must be retrieved from a secure data centre that resides elsewhere. If that data center is not operating, money is lost because employees are unable to do their jobs and customers become very unhappy that their situation cannot be resolved.
Reasons why data centres fail
Some of the reasons why data centers fail can be prevented and then there are some ways in which they cannot. However, it is important to do what is necessary to ensure as few outages as possible.
Here are some reasons for failure:
- The “wear-in” phase ? This is the point in time in which the data center has just become operational. It is typical that certain things may fail as they are trying to become fully operational. It is like a toddler learning how to walk. The data center has to walk too, so it is good to let it run with minimal use and gradually build until it has gotten its legs. This involves comprehensive testing as the system usage increases in order to fix problems before they become a problem.
- The “wear-out” phase ? This is when the data center is reaching the end of its life. Regular maintenance and care will slow this process, but major parts will eventually wear out. It is ideal to consistently monitor the system in order to predict failure and avoid catastrophe.
- Power failure ? Power failure is devastating to anything that relies on it for operation. It is especially devastating to a data center. That is why it is important to have a generator or two ready to take over in case the power goes.
- Generator failure ? Generators need care too and they need to be tested. Power goes out and generators take over in order to keep the data center running. Generators have been known to go out and cause data center failure.
- Metal whiskers ? If the data center hardware is sitting on a metallic surface, then that metallic surface could grow zinc whiskers. These have been known to cause short circuits, especially in data centres. There are also tin whiskers that grow out from tin and they too cause shorts. Silver whiskers that grow on silver electrical contacts and gold whiskers that develop on gold plated services are also known to cause short outs. Large fans that suck the whiskers in can be used and the elements that produce them can be replaced.
Prevention is key
Prevention is the key to keeping your data center up and running. If any of these elements occur, it is good to stay calm and do what needs to be done to keep the problem from occurring again. If you have experienced generator failure, you may wish to invest in a backup to your main generator. If you?re building a new data center, be sure to use flooring that does not produce any type of metal whiskers that can short out your hardware. By being vigilant, you can ensure that your data center uptime will be at or near 100%.

Many websites are hosted on a shared web hosting server. The main reason is the cost. A shared web hosting server costs a great deal less than a dedicated server. The number of sites on a shared web hosting server can be anywhere from 1500 to 2000 sites. The number of sites on the shared web hosting server will vary due to availability of disk space, allowed bandwidth per site and overall speed. Although shared web hosting is reliable and has minimal problems, there are advantages to host your site(s) on a dedicated server.
The best thing about dedicated servers is that users do not have to share it with any other user of the hosting company. These are also able to provide added third party security to the users’ sites and emails. Complete access is also given to the user or the website owner so that he would be able to freely configure, optimize and also install the necessary software for his website.
Since a dedicated server does not share its server with other websites (like shared web hosting), you will find that you have a lot more control over your server operation. One of the advantages with a dedicated server is you have greater control to make changes to the server i.e. upload programs, add extra features and general tweaking is a lot easier when you have your own server. The only obstacle is the cost. You are required to pay a lot more for your dedicated server as compared to your shared web hosting. Nevertheless, the facilities more than compensate for the cost.
Since a dedicated server web hosting does not share its server with other websites (like shared web hosting), you will find that you have a lot more command over your server operation and its bandwidth. One of the advantageous features of dedicated server web hosting is that it can also be remotely configured and operated. The only obstacle is the cost. You are required to pay a lot more for your dedicated server web hosting as compared to your shared web hosting. Nevertheless, the facilities more than compensate for the cost.
Before deciding if a dedicated server is for you, you should consider the level of your website. If you operate a small business or a basic website, a dedicated server is likely not the best choice. However, if you have a high traffic, large, and massive website, a dedicated server will be the likely choice.
