The United States today has an estimated 30 million women who suffer with the problem of hair loss according to the American Academy of Dermatology. This is a very large number of women and even though it is more common for older women to suffer from hair loss, A majority of which deals with menopause, a large number of younger women also are plagued by hair loss. In this article we have a few of the causes of hair loss in women that are known today.

The main causes for women to start losing hair prematurely are related to the same factors, which results in hair loss in men. As for men, women may lose their hair because of their age, because of their genetic build, or because they have a problem with their hormone levels. But along with these hair loss causes, there are other factors, which can cause hair loss in women.

Here are a few of the medical causes of hair loss in women today that we will be taking a closer look at. You will find that as long as you have the right diagnosis by a dermatologist or doctor that in most cases the hair loss can be treated.

1. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a problem related to hormones and can cause hair loss. It is not uncommon for a doctor to diagnose this particular health issue when a woman is suffering from hair loss, as this is one of the indicators.

2. Another Cause of hair loss in women may be related to a treatment that they are receiving for an autoimmune disorder. In a case like this the hair loss may be quite sever and the hair may come out in large patches or clumps.

3. There is a medical condition that may cause temporary hair loss in women, this being Telogen Effluvium. This type of hair loss may occur from changes in a woman’s hormone levels due to a traumatic event in the women’s life. Some examples of this may include Child birth, crash diets, surgery, or any other traumatic event that has happened to them.

It is important that before any type of treatment is taken a medical doctor should be consulted. You will want to do this for a few reasons, primarily because the doctor will be able to find the underlying cause of the hair loss to be treated. This also works in your favor as you will not be doing something that may cause the problem to become worse.

Above we have gone over but a few of the causes of hair loss in women. These hair loss causes will not happen to every woman, but if you do suffer from hair loss you should try and find out the cause so that it can be treated or remedied. On the other hand you should not worry if you loss some hair as that is a normal part of the hair growth process and part of the aging. In the case of excessive hair loss you should seek help in your fight against hair loss.
