Psoriasis might not have a cure, but that doesn’t mean it has to ruin your life. There are many steps that you can take to help control your psoriasis. For the best results, consider using natural remedies and a healthy lifestyle along with your doctor-prescribed treatments.

An ointment, lotion, or topical cream is one way to control your psoriasis. These can be prescribed by your doctor or bought over-the-counter. Tar, salicyclic acid, dovonex, and anthralin are topical treatments for psoriasis.

Your doctor might prescribe corticosteroids to control your psoriasis. These are anti-inflammatory and help to reduce swelling. Discuss with your doctor the proper way to apply these.

Ultraviolet light therapy might be used to control your psoriasis. This treatment requires your skin to be exposed to artificial ultraviolet light B. This phototherapy is especially popular for extensive cases of psoriasis.

In addition to medication from your doctor, you’ll also want to adopt a healthy lifestyle to help control your psoriasis. One of the first steps to this is to eat a well balanced diet. This diet should be low in meat and dairy while high in vegetables. Essential Fatty Acids, which can be found in both fish oil and flax seed oil, are important and should be supplemented.

Some alternative therapies, such as acupuncture or reflexology can help to control your psoriasis by reducing stress which in turn can help reduce the duration of flare-ups or even the frequency of psoriasis flare-ups.

Natural topical remedies from your kitchen pantry can also be used. These include apple cider vinegar, which can be applied to the scalp or the nails. Either vegetable or olive oil can be added your bath to reduce itching. A baking soda and water mixture can be made and applied directly to the itching patches of skin with a washcloth.

Since stress can worsen your psoriasis symptoms, take the steps to reduce your stress level. Learn how to meditate, exercise regularly, or take a yoga class. Be sure to enjoy your hobbies or take up a new one for some fun time
