More and more people are choosing organic skincare products over chemical products in an attempt to be ecological and improving the quality of their health and subsequently their lives.

The health of our skin reflects how we look after ourselves. So opting for more natural organic skin care products means our skin remains youthful and radiant for longer and in turn we feel happier within ourselves.

Some reports say switching to natural and organic will not make much of a difference. However, repeatedly applying chemical based skincare products is clearly going to age and damage our skin. We can preserve our youth, radiance and beauty and go for natural organic skin care products.

Sarah Beeny, who recently exposed the countless chemicals in our everyday cleansers and moisturisers in her recent Channel 4 series, How Toxic Are you, revealed astonishing facts about how we take our skin and our environment for granted and are unaware of how harmful hairsprays, gels, serums, face scrubs, body moisturisers are for us.

Chemical-wary consumers can look out for the some of the nasties which are listed in the tiny printed ingredients list. Talc, a direct carcinogen, has been linked with ovarian cancer. Coal tar dyes are frequently used in cosmetics and lipsticks. Frightening words will jump out at you, words like those ending in -nolamine and -thiazolinone. If you’re not sure, make a note and look them up when you get home. By doing your own research into which products contain harmful products and comparing them with organic skincare products for example from the Organic Pharmacy, you will begin to notice the difference.

Next, look out for the contaminants, words that end in -chlorine or dioxane, inherent in a range of shampoos, hair conditioners, cleansers, lotions, and creams, as well as household products. Ethoxylated alcohols, polysorbates, and laureths in high concentrations can be both inhaled and absorbed through the skin. Armed with this information, your choice for organic skin care couldn’t have been made simpler.

Watch out for artificial colours. Blue 1 and Green 3 are shown to be the cause of cancer when applied to the skin or taken internally. Heavy metal substances are present in some artificial coal tar colours including arsenic and lead which are all carcinogenic.

Phthalates are commonly used to soften plastic which are commonly found in hair sprays, perfume and nail polishes and skin moisturisers. Research has revealed that these chemicals disrupt the hormones and are linked to premature breast development in young girls and interference with reproductive development of male foetuses. When you next go to beauty counters, there’s more reason to start your organic natural skin care routine which will reduce your chemical intake.

The occurrence of breast cancer has been linked to parabens which are a group of artificial preservatives. Also sodium lauryl sulphates in skin care products are shown to be irritable to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract and may damage the liver, lungs and immune system. Depression and dermatitis are linked to glycols are present in many skin care products. The list is endless, for now understand how carcinogens are responsible for disrupting your body. Before splurge out on that new lipstick or moisturiser, consider whether there’s an organic skincare option.
