Choosing a business name can be a challenge for anyone to figure out because not only do you want to get something that represents your company, but it also has to be unique enough to separate yourself from your competitors. There are some important things to consider when making these changes so you are going to be happy with your business short term and long term.

Realize that often a business name that might sound good now, might end up putting you into a corner in a decade down the road. The reason I say this is because often business owners evolve with their business direction and many things can change in order to make a more effective business. There are a lot of advantages to having a story because this is a way to captivate people and help with word of mouth marketing.

So often people get annoyed by big business and feel like they are getting smashed on by monopolies that are forcing products down there throat, but if you can connect with a story it will make you more approachable. They will see a human side to your business and be more interested in listening to what you have to offer.

There are countless examples of companies using stories to establish who they are and what we should know about them. We see this with commercials and it goes all the way back to proverbs or parables that we remember and pass along to our children. So they have a way to stick.

The final step after you have picked out a name is to declare it legally through the government. You start by setting up an LLC and then trademarking the name if it is unique enough through the United States Trademark and Patent Office. This is in order to protect you legally in case anyone tries to steal or copy your brand.

Now that you have figured it all out you should start brainstorming names and write them down so you don’t forget them. This can be a great way for you to start a solid business.
